While I'm impressed to hear the SF64 Landmaster stages are the worst in your opinion, me rather adoring slowly breaking down a lengthy military train into nothing, Star Fox Assault didn't really help in making things more interesting.
It was quite satisfying when I finally hit the switches and got the "right" ending. I think my main complaint was the camera angle. I know it's basically a rail shooter, but the constant upward jerking of the camera did those missions no favors.

I think with a bit more time and effort the 3rd person sections could have been a lot better. But in their original state, they're simply not in depth enough to be exciting. Funny enough, I liked Sauria the most in terms of a 3rd person stage. Was small enough, lots of enemies to kill, looked pretty, and had a good song going. I liked it! The rest? Ehh... Aparoid City, euuuuuugh
Sauria I vaguely remember as being tolerable. The mission inside the space station was kind of novel, since you could (and I believe had to) jump in and out of the Arwing, but you're right, the 3rd person sections needed more work. Aparoid City was horrific, a perfect case study in how not to design a level. Corneria City was nearly as bad, but least the colors didn't try to induce epilepsy.

Yeah, I agree that always having to aim up was a bit of an issue. There were few moments where you didn't have a diagonal or upward tilt on the stick. On SF64 3D, the circle pad was incredibly awkward for this.

Sauria and the Sargasso Space Station were cool. You're right in having to leap in and out of the station. I liked that idea. I forgot how bad Corneria was... Removing the jammer things was not a fun way to structure that level at all

I'll take a crack...FYI, have not played some of these games in forever. Like, I was probably in middle school the last time I played Assault and I think I was in elementary with Adventures.

Star Fox: Pretty sure it'd be pretty cool if it sort of playable. Maybe it has something to do with the SNES I've played the games on, but they run pretty terribly. Still pretty damn okay though.

Star Fox 64: An improvement on every level and it feels like the sort of game that the N64 was made for. Out of a lot 3d games from the era, this one still holds up really well. But how can it not when your object is HOLY SHIT! SHOOT THE FUCK OUT OF EVERYTHING!

Star Fox Adventures: I'd have the balls to say it was underrated because I remember enjoying it, but I was a kid at the time. Still, I don't think it should be treated so badly just because it's different than what we expected. I appreciate it when a series tries something different even if it's just borrowing elements from their other franchise.

Star Fox Assault: Either nobody liked this one or nobody played it...I remember liking it. I remember Screwattack complaining about the sections where you run around with a blaster, but...well, what the fuck else are you supposed to do with a character like Star Fox to make him branch out a bit? Space missions are cool, but let's spin things around for a little bit, no?

The last footage I saw looked hilariously cheesy, but I guess I wouldn't expect anything less from a Star Fox game. I hope to get to play it and I hope I'll enjoy it. I think I'll have to go back and play the ones I haven't played in a while so I can test my nostalgia, I guess.

I like the simple, arcade-y action and flying around in a spaceship is always cool. But, I also want to see more of the Fox who's in Smash Bros. That guy is a fucking ninja...there's no reason why we can't have a Star Fox game where we can base levels off of that.
