I saw it on Youtube, I nabbed a quick screenshot and used it for my spray paint in Garry's Mod.
Got a new computer and needed an avatar for The Escapist, looked for a creepy mario picture on Google and sure enough I got this one...
If you move the eyes follow you, just saying.

Mine matches my user name, obviously. Dr. Franken Stein from Soul Eater. I'm a cosplayer and that's my best costume. I even knitted the stitch sweater from a pattern I wrote myself.
The darker end of it is that I'm addicted to SteinXSpirit yaoi and my irl boyfriend cosplays as Spirit the Deathscythe. If we're both on the same site he'll make an avatar with Spirit's pic to match mine. [Usually cut from a piece of artwork that showed both of them.] It's an ongoing game that caused me to write an extremely explicit yaoi that topped 15 pages. [Most of it a true confessional of things I've done to him with the names changed.]
[Since the Op mentioned telling a story.]
I'm actually an author with eight finished novellas, so the yaoi is on my personal site as a writing sample if anyone wants to read it. (18 and over only please)

Click the button with the XXX on it. :)
He was the best character. But you have slandered his name. Yaoi? Really? WHY? Or more specifically, why do I need to know that?

The first time I had to set an avatar (not on this site), I thought of all the things that, over the years, I have felt that they symbolize me in some way: swords, phoenixes, celtic crosses, penguins, coyotes...

I Google image searched "coyote" and the Wile E. Coyote picture stood out because it was the only thing on the first few pages that was not a photograph of a real live coyote. I also really liked that he's holding the "Help!" sign and has a deer-in-the-headlights expression, because that's how life makes me feel about 25% of the time.

It's been my avatar ever since, and I love it.

Character from a manga I enjoy reading. Strange thing is, he looks (not in this picture) and behaves almost exactly like me.

My avatar is a highly modified picture of me, which I distorted using kaleidoscope effects when I was pissing about with Paint Shop Pro. I liked the effect - it reminded me of some sort of bio-mechanical machine.
You've just blown my mind. This is like when I realized, after two years, that Janaturlich's username was just 'ja, naturlich'. Not Janat Urlich.

Anyway, mine's a heavily-edited picture of a nautilus, because they're the best marine creatures ever in the history of the world until I find something cooler.

I drew a character that I thought up and uploaded it to deviantart. Then I cropped it and uploaded it here.

In my book, the main character can transform himself into what my avatar looks like. He can do this whenever he wants as long as he has his magic necklace.
He calls himself "Azurine" in this form.

What can I say really? I love Ed Edd n Eddy, and I love Ed, so I decided to make him my face on The Escapist. :)

Mine is from the BBC modern adaptation of Sherlock, which, if you haven't seen it, is BITCHIN'.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (who are both cast in the upcoming HOBBIT film as Smaug and Bilbo) play Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. In the show, they have an amazing dynamic, the characters are great and their interaction is brilliant, therefore that is why they have been dubbed Team Awesome.

I'm a big fan and can't wait for the second series :)

Half an hour in Photoshop is my avatar's story, Guv'nor!
I make a new one each time I change name on Steam... I think that when my computer ships and I'm fully moved in, maybe I'll make a big Facebook banner/YouTube introduction for my videos out of it...

An image of Akuma I got from 4chan's Comics and Cartoons board, the full image features him sitting on a stool, one leg crossed, with a pocket book. The image became popular when it was used to respond to a comic thread which decried Black Panther placing Silver Surfer in a bent arm bar, taking advantage of his humanoid physique to overcome the vast difference in strength.

'Akuma': "It's a technique taught in most security and military agencies, as well as martial arts around the world, including those which don't explicitly practice grappling techniques. I consider this comic a fitting testament to it's effectiveness."

Anon's collecive responce was 'Well, okay then. Moving on.', which I found very amusing.
