Last night while attempting to cut my nails, my parents stopped me with the stern warning off:
"It's bad luck to cut your nails after dark"
I'm pretty sure this is just a Tamil thing so what other odd or unique superstitions have you heard of?

Hold your breath as you pass a graveyard because if you breath in then you'll suck in the souls of the dead. When my aunt, uncle, and cousins explained that I was really confused over the silliness of it, but didn't want to say anything about just how silly I thought it was.

The superstition that getting a rabbit's foot is good luck. If this is true, why aren't there factories that cut the feet off rabbits and sell them? It'd be great money. I think I just found my future career. A rabbit-foot entrepeneur.

I have a superstition to take my D20 out, roll it to 20 and go to bed.

Most thing involving wedding traditions are odd as well; especially when you know their origin.

Euchre superstitions like always sit with the bathtub etc.

edit:

I have to restrain myself on that one too. I promised morals and philosophy I wouldn't.

When I was at uni someone saw me eating from a packet of crisps/chips I had opened upside down and said that was unlucky and also I think the bird pooping on you being goodluck is pretty silly.

The strangest one I ever saw was one that someone on these forums posted a link to, it might have been Ultrajoe, I can't remember.

Course, I suppose that can be filed under "hilariously misinformed conspiracy theory" rather than superstition.

As for Superstitions, the strangest thing I've heard is probably the whole black cat thing. I've led a pretty sheltered life, crazy people wise.
Though I did have a friend that turned Wiccan because he thought it was his duty to do so, being the ancestor of someone who had sentenced witches to death.

In my experience, Gamers are very good at identifying patterns as they actually are, and therefore, are HIGHLY resistant to superstition. Except in the singular area...of dice. It's uncanny. Even the most reasonable, scientific, un-suggestible gamer in the world will roll his D20 repeatedly until the bad luck wears out, and it starts to, "Get Hot", or choose certain dice for certain situations, or have some random ritual for maximizing there odds. I do it myself, and every time I have to remind myself about how stupid i'm being. But I do it anyways. Dice rolling superstitions are the strangest to me, because they are apparently impossible to stamp out, even amongst the most unsuperstitious people in the world.

One superstition that stuck with me was one my grandmother told me: Putting shoes on the table brings poverty.

Its also unsanitary.

Being a vegetarian means that you are immune to headlice.

I s*** you not its true. Some mother believed that her daughter couldn't have headlice because she didn't consume meat.

Real-world superstitions, maybe.

But there are some strange habits gamers develop that go beyond simple strategy.

Example:

"OHSNAP! THAT DUDE'S A CHICK! SHE'LL PWN US ALL!"

*Everyone clears game lobby*

Girl Gamer: "Um...hello?"

Call it laziness but I say revising right before a test is bad luck.
Agreed, but since it's me saying that, it's almost certain to be based on laziness
