So, the guy ignored Sound Shapes, Dyad, Rainbow Moon and Papa and Yo for a remake, a kinect Angry Birds clone, two generic games, and a multiplayer shooter, yet blamed the XBLA for this. I mean, when you get fleas from petting a mangy dog, do you blame the dog?
Well, he was talking about the XBLA platform. It's not like he said that all of this summer releases were bad, just the ones in XBLA.
Yes, but he's the one who chose to not review the ones on PsN. Its hardly like anyone is forcing him.
Hmm, good point. It say it's kinda like tradition for him

And I'd like to ask how the game expects me to build a 1000-hit combo when half the enemies die in three hits.
That was actually the first achievement many people get, me as well. It's because I was playing on the difficulty higher then normal, and didn't grind Fidget's attack before meeting those purple flying dragon things. Getting a combo that big is easy if you just keep doing that dust storm magic combo thing in Archer's Pass or what ever it was called. Even when you fail you often get around 600-700 hits easy, it's just a matter of learning to chain the groups of enemies.

But yeah, Dust was by far the best of the bunch, and I don't mean of XBLA, I mean of every game I've played this year. Still isn't saying much though since I haven't been impressed at all with the lineup of 2012. Though Metroidvania games though are like sex on the beach for me, so hell yes!!

Exactly. Why NOT try out what PSN's offering, so he can compare it to XBLA?

Loosely related story, I noticed in Tribes: Ascend there were a lot of people who had a specific team they preferred to play for. They were functionally identical, like TF2, on mostly mirrored maps, like TF2, with all the same classes accessible on both, like TF2.

And yet every game has at least one Blood Eagle(red) or Diamond Sword(blue) loyalist. It was bizarre.

The only difference I can think of at all is that rather than a single announcer for both teams, red has Vegeta and blue has some random woman.
Well Red ones go fasta. Though blue is lucky...

I'm also going to chime in with that psn had at least a few good once recently. At the very least you could point out how is you have play station plus (which costs as much as a NORMAL XBLA account) currently gets you a ton of free (fairly old) games.

As far as I know, PSN doesn't have an event where it showcases the best indie games of the summer. He mostly does XBLA reviews during the slow release months

I'm not saying he shouldn't review PSN games. Maybe he will considering the mediocre Xbox releases of this summer. But in this article he was analizing how this year Summer of Arcade
stands on its own merits

. Listen, when you join a Team Fortress 2 server, which team do you join? You join the one that's losing or has less players, don't you.
Holy shit, I thought that I was the only one who always joined the losing team if both had the same number of players! Just this Sunday I joined a match on Hightower and carried the cart almost to the elevator, while the other team barely got it to the crossing. Then I switched teams and won. Granted, I don't pretend my contribution to that turnover was very far above negligible, except to myself, and it makes me feel good.

OT: I'm in Brazil and Microsoft has finally taken to calling it the Winter of Arcade here as well, except when it forgets doesn't, which is very very often. The little stupid briefcase menu where you can see all the games is also ridiculously offset and I can't even see anything that's near the right side of the screen.

I always pick red team when possible in TF2 because of Sarge from Red vs. Blue. You can never trust those dirty blues. The Blues never sleep! They're too busy plotting to destroy our way of life. That's how you can always spot a Blue. They're always conniving and scheming. Sometimes they do both! I call that... schenniving!

Then again, the list of really good XBLA games is fairly short. Which is a shame, though, as it really could feature a whole lot of different games instead of releasing a few ideas over and over again.

It seems that this all adds up to the point where a lot of quality indie developers are simply refusing to develop for the XBOX.
Great post. Plus, Steam sales of those games tend to be way higher so maybe they just need to change publishers. PSN indie devs don't blast Sony, but platform-exclusive indie games feels like a wrong thing. Journey and Dyad are great, but being on all platforms can only be a good thing for everyone involved.

What are the Valve published indie games?

Cyan is a bad colour and you should feel bad.

Just kidding.

But seriously, it's bad.
if we didn't have cyan, we couldn't have any printers, or indeed any CMY colours
plus, how many colours have had a samurai named after them?

I present my counter-argument: Pink. The best things in the world are pink.

That is all.
pink isn't a real colour

no seriously, look at the EM spectrum, no such thing, it's a construct made by our minds to bridge the gap between the two ends of the visible light spectrum, after all, what wavelngth is between red and violet? green, but that makes no sense, so our brains wrap the spectrum into a circle and make up magenta.

Get out of my forum. Seriously. Leave. Never look back Simba Adam.
fear the science, FEAR IT!
ok, I'm being unfair, pink IS a colour, but it's not naturally occuring (and is technically desaturated red, it really depends on the particular type of pink), there is a story about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Colour_Out_of_Space (ironically, I always imagined The Colour to be greenish-grey, now I'm only going to be able to imagine it as pink... it puts a bit of a wierd view on the story...)

now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to get back to my non-lovecraftian colours :p

I thought you were going to say 'This summer sucked' and I was going to agree, then I saw 'Arcade'... So I had to think about it and I still agree it sucked.

But then I realized you're not in Britain anymore and Wales is bloody amazing on deciding weather, from one type of rain to another.

A fair point, I think a lot of it comes down to XBL's pricing policy as much as anything. The oft-maligned practice of charging a membership fee for multiplayer and such, when people are already paying for an internet connection. That basically means that if your an indie developer someone basically has to decide playing your game is worth also maintaining an XBL membership for if it's a multiplayer game, where on STEAM or most other platforms there isn't an issue like that.

Not to mention the fact that indie games did get kind of swept into the closet on XBL's dashboard. To Microsoft they are second class citizens and treated as such.
