The Sun is a sun star. The Moon is a moon. Deal with it.

Actually the proper Latin name of our sun is Sol. As in solar energy. Also, our moon is Luna and our planet is Terra.
Fixed that for you.
Fixed that for you too. Sun is the proper name we give to our star, which is the general term, not sun. You're right about Sol though.

It's not really a grammar issue. It's an issue that Sol isn't the proper name, the Sun is. Sol is simply the Latin word for it.

As far as I'm concerned, a sun is a star with planets orbiting around it. Our sun is called Sol.

The Sun is the name given to our sun. It is already capitalised and it is grammatically correct when referring to our sun to use the word as such. Other words you can use would be Sol as that is a another more popular name for the Sun and derives from Latin giving us words like solar. The Sun in fiction is allowed to represent other suns as in the main life giving star in their Solar System as that is their Sun. Although it would not really be called that is we have the name Solar System from our sun. That is that planets life giving star. So if we ever colonise planets in the future the term Sun will be probably changed to the life giving star for that System and Sol will be a much more common place name especially in other systems.

Oh and for people saying Sol is not the proper name in English it is not the proper name but many other languages do have it as their name for the Sun.

Isn't our star "Sol"? Or just both Sol and Sun.

I demand that our planet be named Terra again, that's our planet's name in Latin. :D

Actually, our sun's name is Sol, which is already capitalised. The star at the heart of a solar system is always referred to as being that system's sun, but it's actual name is still it's star designation, in our case Sol.

The Sun is a star, the name of the star of our solar system is Sun, the stars of other solar systems have other names, they are not called Sun. They are STARS, they should be called stars, or their proper name that cant be Sun.

By the theory of calling Sun to the star of the current solar system then you should call Earth to the planet that has life of the current solar system.

Also, I dont know if the name of Sun is right or wrong but in latin is Sol, and in american is Sun, I believe that both are right. My name from where I come from is Paulo, in american its Paul, both are also right
In "American"? Is that a joke?

As long as we don't even further back than the Latin name of Terra, going to the Greek name of γη, which could be very easily mispronounced as gay, I'm good with classical naming of planets and things - Sol = awesome

*edit* although, I am fond of naming Terra, Luna and Sol after classical deities in command of them (Selene and Helios)

Screw all of that, lets just go back and start calling the Sun 'Helios.' I think that sounds much better.
Agreed, that sounds much more awesome.

Actually although it is the Latin name for the Sun it is also the proper name for the Sun in many languages and it the proper name for the sun. The Planetary system we live in isn't called the Solar System for nothing same as solar power. While it may not be the properly used in English as they are interchangeable. I am fairly sure the definition is something like Sun/Sol(S with a capital denoting our Sun) the star at the centre of the Solar System.

No, I am correct. Look it up:

Our Sun is a sun.

Our sun is The Sun. The definitive, archetypal sun.

The Sun is sometimes called Sol. They are clearly interchangeable. Although, I don't know a single person who calls The Sun 'Sol' rather than 'The Sun'.

This is nothing to do with grammar. This is an issue of pragmatics.

The English proper noun sun developed from Old English sunne (around 725, attested in Beowulf), and may be related to south. Cognates to English sun appear in other Germanic languages, including Old Frisian sunne, sonne ("sun"), Old Saxon sunna, Middle Dutch sonne, modern Dutch zon, Old High German sunna, modern German Sonne, Old Norse sunna, and Gothic sunnō. All Germanic terms for the Sun stem from Proto-Germanic *sunnōn. In Germanic paganism, the Sun is personified as a goddess; Sól/Sunna.

Which, in my humble opinion, are kick ass names.

How would you want to be known, as a Terran or as an Earthling? Yeah I know which one I pick.
Agreed. Humans from Earth sounds stupid. We should have a name matching our home. Terran sounds badass, as does Terra. Sol and Luna sound cooler, too. When in doubt, go with the more awesome option.
