There have been times, when playing games, that a player may feel emotional. But sometimes... the things that really affect you are things that don't seem they are supposed to, and usually other people don't seem to feel the same way.

Is it just me? Does anyone else have things like these in games? What are they?

The biggest one for me is in Bioshock, particularly Bioshock 2. The whole Big Daddy/Little Sister relationship. For some reason this is very touching to me. The dedication of the Daddy, and the trust of the sister. Whenever I heard my little sister scream in Bioshock 2, I felt legitimately angry. I was really surprised when I realized how emotional I felt about it, because looking back, it didn't seem like it should have been as bad as it was.

I only just got Final Fantasy III (VI) and I only just made it to the Phantom Train.

...

I think that's all I need to say about that.

Reading the Codex pages from Altair in AC2. When playing AC1 Altair was not what you'd call the most likable game character ever and in comparison to Ezio he was about as sympathetic as earwig, and this is excluding that they are both fictional characters when all is said and done. But reading about his life leading the Assassin's order after Al Mualim's death. The losses he suffered, the things he gained, and just generally seeing him progress though old age to the last entry written pretty much on his deathbed. I really felt for the guy.

That's just one of the reasons it's an awesome game. That, and Sabin being able to suplex the damned train. o_O

*SPOILER WARNING*

In Grandia 1, there's a part where the character named Sue departs your party for good. The scene is incredibly emotional and for the most part the game makes you feel attached to Sue up to this point. That's why I always go into manly tears mode when this music hits...

(I dare anyone to listen to this song while thinking about someone special in your life and NOT cry throughout the whole thing.)

Now I feel like I should have read those. I loved Altair as a character, and I'm not sure why... he was pretty straightforward, and relatively bland. xD

My guess is that you haven't played Grandia 1 before. Otherwise, you would know the irony of your second statement. I figured it was a beautiful enough song to induce tears on its own.

The repressed memories in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. To explain without too many spoilers, the nature of the last one made me cry manly tears.

The super good ending of Fallout 3 before the DLC. It made me cry, and I don't really know why

Same with the "sacrifice" ending of NWN2, MotB.
I end the curse and save thousands of souls, but I give mine up to serve as a guardian of the city of judgement

I think that's one of the reason that they put the codex pages in the second game. They realised they's messed up in the first game and the only characterisation he got was 'a bit of a twat who learns his lesson' and 'Al Mualim's little *****', so they used the codex to make him a more three dimensional person with real responsibilities and motivations.

This, very much this. The only reason I didn't put this down was because I fully expected to be moved by them by the end of the second one. If only Ezio had just given it up and got with that thief girl from Venice in AC2, there was definitely some chemistry there.

Have to say, of all the games that would make me cry, I really wasn't expecting Sengoku Basara 3 (Samurai Heroes) to manage it. And yet, Ieyasu's first ending, where he sits alone next to Mitsunari's corpse (having just killed him), and reflects on their relationship and his failures...well, let's put it this way. Liam O'brien can really voice tears of grief, and I just about broke down with him, myself.

Also, I was not prepared for Oichi. Not in the slightest. I came in with the mindset expecting someone like Samurai Warriors Oichi, who's story was tragic but hopeful, but who was a little disappointingly bland.

Then I played the SB Kanegasaki Nightmare stage for the first time.

"In the dark the girl so bright, got up to see the day by night
Wander freely, wander far, Off beneath the Devil's star
The white of flesh, the white of bone, the worms will leave your soul alone...
Her fear in hand, her fear in heart... her fear did tug her soul apart..."

My god, and I haven't even gotten to her story mode, yet.

Oh god...yeah, that's all you needed to say. I tried describing that scene to someone, once, and I almost choked up too badly to finish.

I have yet to finish Bioshock, so I can't speak for the whole Big Daddy/Little Sister thing, but if this is any indication, when I saw this preview for Bioshock 2 on TV about the time it came out, I did that whole bottom lip quiver thing:
I also have the exact same response to King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie, which is that you are defending something that can defend itself, but against these odds, not so much. Case in Point: Anne Darrow can shoot at creatures in the game, but not really T-Rexes. Playing the Mighty Kong and knocking the hell out of something and protecting someone much smaller than you, it's kind of moving.

OT: The final Battle Against Giygas in Earthbound is an emotional point for me, and I would strongly suggest playing it instead of looking it up on Youtube, simply because the videos don't do justice to when you get involved with it.

Until I play more games, I can't say there are that many emotional moments in games for me.

Oh gee... that video is really only touching on the subject. xD
I'm not going to give any spoilers, but when I played Bioshock 2, I harvested one little sister just to see that it was like. That was bad enough, but by the time I got to the end of the game and saw the results that it had on the outcome, I felt probably more guilty than a game has ever made me feel.

The good ending in the original bioshock. I cried happy tears. Seeing someone who just found out his entire family was fake grow up and give those poor little girls the chance at life they deserved made me cry.... Darn. Im doing it now. And the using of just the hads was even better and much more emotional.

Probably how Alice: Madness Returns turned out.
Bumby raping Lizzie and killing your entire family, then trying to manipulate you. I felt really, really bad for Alice, and really, really, really mad at Bumby. The memories from your family only make it worse since they seem so nice and happy.
Didn't cry though, but I do feel a bit depressed.

Grandia 3 Yuki's Takeoff Scene, skip to about 3:25 in

First time i played through i actually shed a tear at this scene, the second time i saw it i was at a friends house watching him play it, I narrowly avoided tears that time because i felt my mancard would be at risk.

It's also one of my favorite scene's in any game i've played, a really beautiful scene about letting go
