I'm saddened to know that some people will never know the thrill of felling a colossus in Shadow of the Colossus, know the sheer giddy confusion of Killer 7, the satisfaction of hurling someone 40 feet into concrete in Phantom Dust or tripping through the world in REZ.

So many good games are swept under the rug and lost as the more hyped and usually worse main stream games suck in potential buyers. So this tread will be dedicated to those games, those underrated and ignored gems that deserve another look.

as per my little list

Ico: Good luck finding it but if you can buy it then and there. While the list of gripes is of course there, like yorda being unresponsive at times, but the story telling, the beauty of the castle and the little details like yorda's frantic steps while ico drags her along make it worth it in so many ways.

Shadow Of The Colossus: Similar to Ico, though transplant the interesting platforming and puzzle solving onto the backs of enormous fuzzy beasts the you have to scale and eventually bring down. The thrill of being a hundred feet up, hanging on for dear life as you plunge your blade into the leviathan is one you'll find no where else. It also continues team ico's tradition of wonderful minimalist stories and uniquely human character models.

Phantom Dust: The over looked 20 dollar xbox gem that allowed for what could best be described as magic the gathering with full 3d destructible environments and rpg elements. Its a one of a kind game from the creator Panzer Dragoon and the sheer number of spells and strategy will keep you playing for longer then is probably healthy. Also, the graphics are amazing, with each of the 300 different spells having a unique visual effect.

REZ: The precursor of all color matching music games, rez is a blend of rail shooter and music maker, with every shot and kill bringing notes into the fray, the entire experience transforming into a psychedelic symphony as you blast through a tron like world. Its beautiful, strange and I find it more fun then Guitar hero.

Killer 7: Whether you come for the hilarious satire on popular culture, the political commentary, or just the zanyness, killer 7 never ceases to amaze. Its characters are stylish and disturbed, its art style imaginative and its story so full of nuances that you could probably watch through it a dozen times and not catch every angle.

those are mine (oh and beyond good and evil) so now you post yours and give those little known games one more shot at life.

This is very very similar to a lot of other threads about underrated and forgotten games but I'll add my two cents.

Yakuza 1 and 2. Two fantastic games released late in the life of the playstation 2 to little or no fanfare. It took them nearly two years to bring Yakuza 2 across the ocean and with the release of Yakuza 3 coming soon in Japan I'm worried I might have to wait another 2 years to play the 3rd one.

I pretty much agree with the list so far, though Killer7 is really, really an aquired taste.

Steam is a great way to pick up old, fantastic games on the cheap, BTW. Beyond Good & Evil, Psychonauts, and Abe's Oddysee/Exoddus are all on there for about $10-20 a pop, and they're fantastic, pretty-much forgotten games.

Personally, I strongly recommend downloading Deus Ex if you were too young to play it 8 years ago. I picked it up on the basis of great reviews and only having my crappy laptop whilst I was away from home for a month. It's looks are dated now, but I really don't think that the gameplay has ever been surpassed.
Seriously.

Are we going to list actual forgotten games or games that have gotten lots of raving from gamers and critics that haven't been madly successful salewise? Shadow of the Colossus and Ico are far from forgotten games. Games as art folk never forget to mention it, when the topic comes at hand. Same goes for Psychonauts. And Deus Ex always heaps universal praise in just about every "best games ever" list.

What about actual forgotten games? Like Shantae? Sigma Star Saga? Metal Storm? Or hell, Nightshade by the dudes who did Shadowrun on the SNES/Genesis and shares similarities with? Asking whether some remembers how awesome those games were will only get you blank stares. The games might as well not have even existed.

XIII: One of the kewlest FPS' ive played. Its cell shading/cartoon strip style is awsome

Knights of Honour: If u ignore the army fighting rts (which sucks) & focus on the massively awsome campaign map; it is the game I kinda wish the Total War games are.

(I dunno if these games count; ive mentioned them before & will mention them again neway)

I see your point... I suppose that what I possibly meant was that whilst the games I mentioned aren't 'forgotten' as such, they deserve to be played more than they are, especially by, as I mentioned, those who were too young to play them first time round.

Do a forum search of "Bargain Bin Specials" for four reviews I've written on old forgotten gemes: Victoria, Capitalism II, Tropico, and Port Royale 2.

Swords of Glass was a 2 player first person dungeon crawler for the PC in the 286 days. It was way ahead of it's time but no one seems to remember it.

Rez is forgotten?

Didn't Rez HD rate some awesome number of downloads as soon as it hit XBLA?

Man, I still lie back with the volume and bass up, on a very sensitive mattress with three controllers strategically positioned around me and play through the assault modes every now and then.

There are no games I really lament the passing of. Me and games have our time together, then I move on. Occasionally a game will take up a large chunk of my life or warrant returning to years after the fact. Mostly though, once I'm finished and done with a game, I'll put it aside and never return.

Ogre Battle or Tactic Ogres series.

I heard that ogre battle might be revived on the Wii, or at least virtual console. Finally, as I have played ogre battle 64 so long and so often, the cartradge is starting to break.

Also, LOST KINGDOMS. I don't think i'll be able to die peacefully until I play Lost Kingdoms 3 (and it has to be as good as the first two.)

Yeah, listing games that people always praise as being underrated further cements them as being games that definitely aren't underrated.

Anyone play Chibi-Robo? I didn't think so. Shame, it was pretty fun.
