I had decided a few months ago to give up facebook because of all the time you supposedly lose browsing and chatting. To start with I do not like most people as I find them to love idiotic things like Jersey Shore, etc. As per my expectation, I am loving not having the social media trend that has recently hit 1 billion active users.

Now for my question, do you enjoy using or not using facebook and why?

I use Facebook as a means to talk to people with whom I have no other method to communicate. That is it. The status messages and whatnot just aren't for me.

The Twitter, on the other hand ... I enjoy using it, for whatever that's worth. That's in large part because it's entirely based around superficial and shallow messages, whereas with Facebook that's just one part. I dunno, that makes a difference, I guess.

I use it to message a group of people at once to organize things, or if I need to talk to somebody, 'cause they'll generally be online there.

Other than that I check it rarely - mostly just when I get an email telling me someone has sent me a message/invited me to something. Otherwise, I spend more time arguing here, and checking if my Special Editions have shipped yet than looking at pointless pages posting pointless things.

Damn, I had one about three years ago. Maybe four? Anyway, I had one for a few months, then I figured that if people can't be bothered to talk to me without the use of Facebook... They're not really worth my time anyway!

Not to mention, there were this annoying couple that wrote on each other's pages about how in love they were, and a group of people that kept posting Harry Potter quotes and spells to no end. You un-friend these people and the next day you'd hear in person "Dude, why did you get rid of me?" And then there's the status updates which are just this void of people yelling what they're up to, but nobody really gives a hoot.

Now, I just declare my open disdain for Facebook whenever someone asks me whether or not I have one.

I deleted my account probably a year or a year and a half ago.
I only used it for games, any "friends" on facebook had me there to ask for help since they weren't assed reaching for another medium of communication or asking at a better time.
The stupid life updates just made me sick of it and left the whole thing altogether.

On a side note captcha is really creeping me out. My last post it said "I love humans" and now it says "do you love me?" seriously what the hell.

Eh, it's not my type of thing, whenever I leave a town I try to lose contact with everyone I met there, so it would be counter-intuitive to use Facebook since keeping in contact with old acquaintances seems to be one of it's main purposes, I do have an account but my mother made it and I don't know the password, needless to say I've never used it, so I guess I have no opinion on the thing.

D'aww, it just wants to cuddle with you, you should reciprocate it's feelings, I assure you that you will not be assimilated.

OT: Yeah, I use facebook to keep in touch with old friends I would have lost touch with otherwise. It's good to send friends links they might appreciate etc.

I don't like answering personal questions, I find it very stressful.

I spend more time there than I'd like to admit.

See, here's the thing. My uni classmates (a media course involving a lot of practical film-making and stuff) use facebook to organise stuff, so professionally, I kinda have to check it regularly, more than once a day, sometimes I simply have to keep an eye on it all day if the people I'm working with are particularly disorganised to the point where they'll basically say "Okay, we're shooting now, meet us on the other side of town in ten minutes", and if I don't reply or turn up quickly they just assume "Well, he must be lazy" and start without me.

So, that's quite a bit of time I already HAVE to spend on there.

Then there's social stuff. Again, people use groups, they use messages, they use tagging, so if I want to know what's going on, I go to there. So yet another reason I have to keep checking.

Then there's my youtube. Aside from the odd time I've posted a video here when it's been appropriate to do so, facebook is really my only way to get more reach, even though at the moment it's only really my friends who are subscribing, so at some point, that's gotta change, but at the moment, by best option is to share every video I make on facebook.

So, if you put that all together, there's so little time when it isn't necessary/useful to be on there, that I'm often on there the better part of the day, though I'm not necessarily active all the time, it's often in the background where I can check it easily.

I do enjoy using facebook. Sure, I have a couple of annoying people who post hipster photography and stuff that I keep on my friends list essentially because I have to work with them, but mostly I just chat with friends, find out what's happening when, all that good stuff.

I just wish more people would communicate in at least some other way, I guess.

All my hockey matches are arranged through Facebook, my job is about 70% interacting with a community on Facebook and my parents use it as a means to ensure I'm still alive. To be honest it'd be completely impractical for me to quit Facebook even if I wanted to.

Meh it's not really much of a timesink for me unlike some of my friend and relatives. I only log it to see everyone status and log off. I do chat to a friend sometimes as his MSN messager ain't working (my main way of communicating to my mates).

I don't enjoy using FB but my friends refuse to send me text messages telling me what they're doing, so I made an account so I could be active, that and I like spying on my friends...

I used to use it quite a lot when I first opened an account on it, but as time as gone on my usage of it has dwindled. All I use it for now is as a glorified Instant Messaging service for people I no longer see in person and for the odd post promoting Humble Bundles and musicians. All my status updates are taken care of through Twitter, anyway.

Still, keeping in touch with old friends is more than worth keeping an account open on there, as far as I'm concerned.

It's never been a time sink to me. Check it a few times a day, for about 30 seconds each time. Any friends on there who want to contact me can do it on skype or can text me.

I have never, nor will ever, have a facebook account.

Therefore my life is just as enjoyable as it always has been without it.

What do you mean "timesink"? You go on, see if anyone you know has sent you anything then leave. 30 seconds, maybe less, maybe more if you're messaging a person. If someone annoys you with constant dumb status updates, you block them.

Simples.

Nope. See if you have a social media account, you HAVE to spend long hours pouring over status' and reading what people had to say about Jersey Shore or other stuff. That's how it works.

I use it to post jokes on the fly...that's about it. It's good for organizing an event or stalking someone, but there's other technologies for the things that Zuckerberg boasts about.
