I would have to go with:

Catherine
Dark souls
And skyrim

As my personal GOTY

And:

Skyrim
Battlefield3 or MW3
Deus ex:HR

For what will probably be the GOTYs

Why go with Three contenders? Skyrim will be GOTY, just like Morrowind and Oblivion before it.
My opinion aside, I honestly can't see any other game winning that title. I'd like it if something else got it, but hey, it is going to be Skyrim.

Wow Portal 2 was forgotten quickly. I think Portal 2 will give them all a good run for their money :)
It's "Oscar-season" syndrome. All anyone is talking about in this thread is a game that few have had a chance to play yet (Batman), and a bunch of games that are unreleased.

How come people are mentioning games that haven't even been released? Surely the top 3 contenders can only be games you've played? Shall we all say what GOTY is for next year aswell?

Anyway, mine are Deus Ex HR, Portal 2 and Dark Souls.

So far, from what I've played, it's been a great year, but if I were to boil it down to my three favorite games so far it'd be Portal 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Dark Souls.

Skyrim is pretty much guaranteed to get GOTY from all of the sites, despite any issues it may have. Personally, I'm not too interested in Skyrim. Didn't like Oblivion, doubt I'd like Skyrim.

*blinks* Contenders? What contenders? Skyrim's coming out this year :p

If I had to put down two more, I'd put Battlefield and SWTOR? Battlefield making it's big comeback into the main series after BFBC2 and it's coming pretty strong - excellent looking single player (from what I can see from the launch trailer, will judge fully once I play it), co-op looking good, multiplayer looking amazing, along with a bunch of innovations a new engine and all of that. SWTOR as being the first big MMO in a while, but to be honest, I don't think it's gonna get compared favourably to non-MMO titles as far as GOTY goes - but you never know.

Arkham City could also be a contender. I'd say the same about AC: Revelations, but with the third installment featuring Ezio, I doubt it's gonna amaze enough for a GOTY (though I expect it to be a fantastic game)

For me personally it's these 3:

* Portal 2
* Deus Ex: Human Revolution
* Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Yes, I am aware that Skyrim is out yet.
Doesn't matter, I know it will be most glorious.

Dark Souls is a darkhorse that may steal some awards from Skyrim.
I really doubt that. Not that Dark Souls isn't a good game (I absolutely love it and I think it's probably my favorite of the year) but I think that Skyrim is all around just more popular and hyped by the media than Dark Souls.

There are so many awesome titles out this year its hard to pick just a few. Ultimately though it doesn't matter its down to personal preference. Everyone likes different stuff. and GOTY awards for the video games industry are generally a sham. I mean seriously how does black ops get in there?

Skyrim
Saints row 3
battlefield 3
The old Republic
Deux ex: HR
Portal 2
Batman : AC

The only AAA-game that was of any interest for me this year was Deus EX: Human Revolution. It should at least be nominated to GOTY. I haven't played any of the other AAA-games this year, so can't really make an opinion on whether it should win or not.

It didn't even come out this year, and yet everything Starcraft II accomplished makes it game of the year. And next year, and for how fucking amazing and influential it is.

My game of the year is Gears of War 3, since it's the most fun I've had in the series. I'm also smart enough to know that Skyrim will win Game of the Year, simply because it was developed by Bethesda, and as we all know, Bethesda games, no matter how broken, will always win game of the year.

Portal 2
Bastion
Dark Souls
Skyrim

Sorry that's four, couldn't leave any of them out and other people cheated more than I did.
These are just mine obviously, I choose not to talk for anyone else.
Everyone else can, has, and will continue to talk for themselves.

Just not personally impacted by a lot of the other big names being thrown around.

Portal 2, Deus Ex, and BF3.

I'm don't care for Skyrim or Dark Souls. Don't get me wrong, they're great contenders, but I'm not a fan of high fantasy settings. I prefer steampunk or sci-fi, to be honest.

Personal GOTY? Witcher 2, Dark Souls, Arkham city

THE GOTY? LA Noire, Deus Ex, Arkham city.

Ideally I look at a GOTY as something that does something more and special with the medium.

Honestly Im only fully behind two of those candidates, LA noire, and Deus Ex. See I have a lot more trouble trying to wrap my head around a sequel that is essentially the same as the prior installment being GOTY. So games such as Portal2, Skyrim, Arkham city, Dark Souls, Modern Warfare 3, etc all suffer from being essentially good games, but bringing nothing new to the table except more of what the prior installment offered.
