I really didn't let moments like that get to me, for the most part I think the AI does it's job, but as you've seen it can be inconsitant. Another AI anomaly I've seen while playing one state factions, is that the other factions will usually only use a naval invasion if you either own Ceylon, or have less than four states. If the occaional AI bug really kills the experiance that much for you, I'd recomend installing Darthmod Empire and giving it another go. I think you would be very impressed with how much the mod's developer has improved the game. You could also do what I did and install that mod that unlocks all the factions for the campaign and play one of the minor states like Dagestan, or the Babary States if you are looking for a real challenging campaign.
I keep meaning to get that mod, I looked up the changes he put into the game and it's really phenomenal. Honestly in E: TW's case that was just the final straw, the AI had been awful for the entire campaign. I know the game's been patched since then but I just didn't end up enjoying the core gameplay. I still absolutely love MWII and Kingdoms though, and they suck more than enough of the life out of me...

Discuss your current endeavours in your Total War campaigns. Manipulated two nations into attacking eachother, then steal all their land? Defended your city from 1500 armoured knights with 200 basic millitia? Seen the AI do something really thick? Tell us about it here.
How do you manipulate two nations into fighting each other?
That's easy, you can instigate a war just by paying one or more countries to attack each other.
Oh right, yeah, thanks. Been too long since I played that game

I've been playing alot of Empire TW: DMUC, and i've turned the Dutch into a illuminati powerhouse. I control all sources of spices and all the Ivory. Then i've set up trade agreements with all major nations (except France: they were a loose end that needed to be tied, so i sent every nation in central europe against them, then took paris myself.) I'm grossing 30,000$ per turn, and every nation is, at the very least, indifferent towards me >:D (gifted into submission ftw).

Back in Rome I was playing egypt and had begun invading Greece and Italy. I had swept the the Peloponese and Attica and taken the next northward city, Thessalonica I think. The Greek Cities struck back, pinning a small but elite army in the city. Of the next few years I was attacked every turn by one or two full stacks of Armored Hoplites. I left a breach in the wall setting up a long alley of approach, at the end of which I posted my three remaining catapults, guarded in front by singular units of Pharaoh's Guard and Nile Spearmen, about 120 archers were posted on the walls above and to the left and my general and a unit of Chariot Archers were in a plaza to the right. The bronze clad greeks advanced into my ally, were blasted by catapult fireblasts, pelted by arrows and broken on my veteran spears. Eventually i got my mobile chariot army on the scene to secure the countryside and break the siege. They were many, I was few, but loosing a family member\general in Rome just isn't acceptable. The metal from all that greek armor would have made a great monument for the glory of the Pharaoh.

Rome Total War. I built a glowing relationship with Carthage, established trade and good tribute. Next objective: Capture Carthage.

Nice one.

I usually play on hard for the campaign in RTW because I like the challenge (even if it sometimes makes me hit my computer in rage when your allies backstab you for NO GOOD FUCKING REASON)

This time tho I was in the mood for some easy worldconquering fun, picked easy diffculty and got so rich ended up buying my way to victory. I just did everything with money:

- Large army approaching? Bribe them. Threat disbanded.
- Enemy generals? Bribe them. Sent them to govern distant provinces.
- Enemy settlements? Buy them.
- Enemy settlements that don't want to be bought? Bribe the closest army from one of the other Roman factions and sack that settlement.
- Senate declaring war on me? Buy every Roman stack in Italy and sent them all on Rome.

Oh god that was such an easy but enormously fun playthrough.
