The wind shield is Aleister using his magic to protect the party until they can get to the area under the center of the storm. This area is the ruins of a castle

Basically, the group is headed to the point where you will need to fly up and stop the storm.

Have you taken into account that those are gale force winds? Projecting Icicles the size of Damien and Stonefuse through the air at those same speeds? The shield is to keep you from falling back to earth without major body parts

Because the weather macguffin needs to be used in the center of the storm (above the ruins) and Atticus needs to calibrate the device before it can be used.

This means both you and Atticus need to go. Aleister is creating a shield to get us close.
