I swear. At least half the female gamers on this site make a thread about female gamers within their first 50-100 posts.

Anyway, as for your question. Girl gamers are a plague on the gaming world. They whore it up for attention all the while claiming not to and then complain about how females are represented in games. The world would be far better off without them.

However. Gamers who just so happen to be girls are fine. Those who just game without feeling the need to draw attention to the fact. Even in a round about way such as this.
When I jump online, I do not want female gamers. I just want gamers. Whatever it is you are packing in your panties is best kept out of the conversation.

As for why guys make a fuss. Because A) They are sad pathetic losers and B) The girls force a fuss if one does not naturally occur.
HA! You sir are awesome! My thoughts exactly

Thanks for ninjaing me cuz i wouldn't have been able to articulate this point as well as you

In my eyes, there are two types of girl gamers, Serious gamers, and attention seeking ones.

The attention seeking ones are what I believe caused the whole opinion on gill gamers. There like 'OH HAI, LOOK A GIRL ON A GAME, OMG IM LIKE THE ONLY ONE, PAY ATTENTION TO ME' in which, a variety of boys (either a gamer or just a cod-only player, these being the ones who only play cod and think it are the only game in the world) Try to Impress them, skill for the first one, talking and insulting everyone for the second one. And they leech off it. Its so annoying to see a girl say IM GOING ON COD on facebook each time they do. (One time a girl said COD was her first ever game, then went onto a few weeks later posting that she preffered the N64 over the xbox, then in the comments saying how she 'used to have one')

...Unfortunately, my current partner sorta falls into this section. Its kinda annoying, especially since her steam friends hate me because Im not a girl or belong in their group...Wont go into detail, but its the traditional 'Girl in a game' scenario.

The other type, is just a girl who wants to play games, and are barely taken seriously, because of said group above and male testosterome. Though on TF2 Ive noticed it barely happens, as I made friends with a girl on my team as we were scout doubling together, as well as other cases.

I guess it just depends who you find in a server...Which is why I prefer playing with friends.

I'm a gamer guy and every girlfriend I have had, from highschool to beyond college, has thought gaming was for children or uncool. Sure i'm a pretty decent guy so they might tolerate it, but they never understand it.

So to have a girl that is not only cool with gaming, but will play with you, now that's one sick and impossible fantasy.

So when you find one online, which is really rare, you go holy shit they exist maybe one exists near me.

But then you find out that the gamer chick blows at gaming, and is only doing it for attention. Repeat 100 times over 8 years of XBL and steam. Now you see a gamer chick and you go yeah so what, they are probably over weight and suck anyways.

So eventually you get tired of it, you don't want them in your game or lobby just because it's annoying to listen to everyone else fawn over them.

So if you want to fix the problem, you need to make females that game less of a spectacle, and more of an everyday thing. That way we don't get excited, or tired of the fuss that comes with an extra X chromosome in the lobby.

Girl gamers are treated differently because they try to.

Also the girl online who kicks your ass and doesn't take no shit from boys is very much a stereotype, almost as much as the girl who is bad at the game and is just being introduced to it but don't play unless their boyfriend asks them to.

EDIT: I just realized that this thread was created back in January.

Gamers are gamers. If you want to purposely separate yourself from the pack, don't expect the same treatment.

I think it stands evident that most of the time, girl gamers are not the ones doing the separating. Given the prevalence of the topic (TC sites articles from this very site) and so on, I'm pretty sure there's a valid point that gets buried under all this specious nonsense.

Because most boys who devote their life to games or regularly post on an internet forum are friendless virgins who can't wrap their minds around the idea that there are women that are equal or greater than them on the world stage who are for the most part probably fairly lonely and would give anything in the world for a 'girl gamer' friend, or even better a 'girl gamer' girlfriend, something not exactly likely to happen. Especially with the (still) fairly negative social stigma surrounding video games as a hobby.
Okay, we don't all view girl gamers as this incredible holy grail that we seem unable to discover in the real world and we don't all wish we had a girlfriend, but i'd say a sizeable chunk of the male gamer demographic can safely lay claim to this. I don't think sexism is the main issue per se, more that the prospect of a female - attractive or not - is in to such a typicall 'nerdy' past-time is somewhat shocking. The sexism point is of course reinforced by the many games that focus on pandering to the male demographic. The action heavy games with the gritty male protagonist that the young adult male looks up to and always rescues the damsel in distress. The tough Marcus Fenix and charming Nathan Drakes of gaming, if you like, all look toward young men in their appeal. Some of the blame for this divide does also rest with the self-proclaimed girl gamers as well, though, as others have said. Sometimes they outright advertise their gender, when it really sin't necessary. I don't mean making a female avatar for example, but when you look on their profile and in big bold letters under bio it says 'YES I'M A GIRL'.

But you know, this divide is dropping, and as long as people don't keep bringing it up and highlighting it, we won't hear of it any more. At the very least, we'll hear of it far less, i think. Although i have faith equality will eventually iron itself out, you do have to bear in mind a lot of the 'BOOM HEADSHOT' crowd don't care for civility, they're not as rational as us and most of them probably don't care when they call you names or say girls shouldn't be playing games. You can't really do anything about those people, there will always be nasty and cruel people, just like there's always a bully in the schoolyard playground.

I don't think there is that big of a fuss unless you're playing something like COD online where the average IQ of the player is in the double digits.

Any fuss is due to threads like this.

-My girlfriend will kick your ass at Mortal Kombat and L4D :D

The concept seems hardly foreign to me.
My sister is a gamer, and has been for most of her life just like myself.

One of my friends plays games with his sister; games that have a rather high learning curve at that. Neither of them are social outcasts or lost mental patients either.

Seriously, the only reason people make such a fuss about girl gamers is because they're ultimately being assholes, or they're trying too damn hard to not be those kinds of assholes (and end up being overly clingy or dramatic anyway).

there's nothing about girls that makes them inherently worse at games. they dont have worse reflexes, they dont have trouble understanding video game logic, and they dont have horrifying deformities that leave them fingerless. there's just not as many girls as guys who enjoy gaming. that is a fact. and that is all. minority discrimination.
