This is not a question of whether you are pro or easy going or want to have fun. I am asking the STYLE of play.

I was going to add a poll to this thread but, there are combinations of options so a poll would be useless.

These are the sort of options I was thinking along: In a stealth game, are you determined to go through and do it perfectly, without a single casualty (if it is possible) and not get spotted? Or are you a loud person that prefers to gun your way through leaving a trail of bodies. OR are you a person that silently takes out every single motherf@#ker in the room.

I realise that I cant ask you whether you are loud or stealthy in any game as some games are just built for stealth (the old splinter cells and theif series) and some for just plain old f--king shit up. So answer the question as the type of gamer you are.

After playing Splinter Cell conviction and a few re-runs of my fave levels in hitman:blood money, I came to create this new topic. I do not know if this type of topic has been already created so I apologize in advance if it has.

ALSO: do you prefer to explore every single corner of the game? I know plenty of people do but, I have friends that just get the job done (eg: the final mission of ME2, not bothering with all loyalty missions.)

For me, I usually go around trying to kill every single person silently as I dont regard myself as a person that likes completes levels with living enemies. Also, I try my best to find every single thing that can be enjoyed in a game, I have spent a good chunk of hours wandering the wasteland in FO3 and doing pretty much all the side quests in the Final Fantasies a play.

So, what type of gamer are you?

Main point to include in your post is whether you are STEALTHY, LOUD, GENOCIDAL.

Have a nice day.

I like to explore just about every aspect of every game. I always try to go down the 'wrong route' when given the choice so I can see the rest of the map and find whatever goodies are there. I'm slightly a completionist, but not to the extent that I'll be pissed if I don't finish a game completely; I'm a... passive completionist?

I'm more of a single player guy, though I still love good multiplayer. My criterion for a good game are as follows (Because I say it'd fit in this thread.)

1) Good gameplay
2) Good Story.

I can have point 1 without point 2, but not point 2 without point 1. I need to be able to enjoy playing the game to consider it good and if the gameplay is fun enough, story doesn't matter. adding story to that wonderful gameplay can only make the game better and having both of those points is what puts a game into my 'favorites.'

1. Obsessive - when I get a good game I play it to death

2. Thorough - I hoard money in games, and collect every special item and unlock every area

3. Crap - I'm not good at online shooters, I run around and get impatient and it gets me killed

4. Team player- I always rush for objectives (which seems to be the thing not to do these days...) and die a lot

With your point three, everybody gets better as they keep playing the game. Maybe you dont have enough time to play?

Anyway, also what kind of gamer are you? The main question is that are you stealhty, loud, genocidal?

EDIT: haha, saw your point four as I posted this. Team player, online fps's like MW2 is in shortage of those...

Strangely enough, I'm the type to not kill if I don't have to.

Given the option, I usually choose life over death for my enemies in games.

I generally kick down doors and shoot people. Sometimes I skulk through the bushes and snipe them. If the game allows it, i've also been known to sneak and stab/poison.

I've enjoyed games that enforce the stealth approach or the direct approach, but I find when given the choice between two equally viable options I tend to opt for direct action more often than not.

I also tend to make one trip through the game and rarely do I spend much time exploring. The rare exception to this is games like Oblivion or Fallout 3, where I often spend more time just wandering than pursuing a specific objective.

Well isnt someone just a saint. I just find that they are your enemies for some reason and that they will try to kill you if they get the chance to. So why go out of your way just to allow them to live?

Meh, I dunno, just seems a little hypocritical to retaliate with the same degree of punishment as your enemies...

Eye for an eye makes the whole world blind, ya know?

Let's see. I like games where I can explore, that's a big one. (Arcanum, Fallouts, Elder Scrolls, the Myst series (especially Uru (hooray for nested parentheses)). I also like games where I can sit down and play for as little or long as I want.

I hate time limits. They don't break a game necessarily (See: Fallout 1) but I don't enjoy being rushed when I'm trying to have fun.

I know what you mean but, I guess I just don't want to go through more trouble NOT to kill them when they obviously wont.

Depends solely on the game.
Alpha Protocol: 90% of my attacks were stealth takedowns. I finished missions without setting off any alarms, sometimes without hurting half the troops.

Hitman: yeah you know what, ima get the gun and shoot stuff till it dies.

Deus Ex: sneaking around with a shotgun was my favourite thing to do. Deactivate security, find a good spot, unleash hell.
With Hitman blood money, one of the levels I replayed was the one where you have gotta kill the assassins in the parade (lol, penguin suits). I brought my sniper with me and placed a very nice kill. Also, out of interest, what is your weapon of choice in hitman? (mine has got to be naturally the silverballer(s). Though, a fully upgraded assault rifle just rains death on everybody.

I used to be a big multiplayer guy but it seems like anymore I enjoy playing single player and exploring the whatever game I'm playing. So my preferences go something like this.
1) Environment
2) Gameplay
3) Story
4) Multiplayer

For sure! It's pointless even trying to win in Domination, everyone thinks they're in TDM.

AS for your question... I hate being stealthy, I like action, explosions, things on fire and lots of loud noise!

Middle ground mostly, I try to stick to stealthy if its required but if I fluff up I have no problem getting physical, although I do view it as a failure on my part - though I won't reload. I prefer the game to flow more realistically, for example in a game like baldurs gate where it was possible for your companions to die permanently, if that happened I wouldn't reload even if they were essential to the team... I guess you could say I'm a "roleplay" style gamer.

i am an explorer. I love sandbox games which can total to either insane amounts of damage or Just plain awesomeness. I like being loud, and stealth games really aren't my thing. Although i do love them, never the less.

i'm actually really glad that you cleared up the main question, because i was thinking Pro, Hardcore, Laid-back..that kind of thing

OT: i guess it depends on my mood, and what game i'm playing. ((hello captain obvious, so nice of you to join us this evening)) ANYways my ADHD is kicking in..so, in SC:Conviction, i try to be stealthy, but at the same time i take some big risks, other times, i play it uber-stealthy, trying to NEVER be spotted, and killing as many enemies as i can, or possibly, only the ones that pose a threat/are in the way/might discover a body.

!!!!ATTENTION!!!! LONG RUN-ON AHEAD, IF YOU DON'T FEEL LIKE READING IT, IT'S SUMMED UP BELOW THIS SPOILER SECTION

whatever game i play, i try to get into the spirit of the game as if i was actually in the situation. it helps me think about how to play it better, and what course of action to take next. should i cut my losses and run my ass as fast as i can to the Evac? or should i stand my ground and kill everyone who is coming for me? should i lead my friends to saftey? or cover them and hope for the best when it's my turn? should i go explore this dungeon? or should i wait until i feel slightly better suited for what perils may lie ahead?

i get into all of my characters ((being a writer it can help)) and try to picture myself in that situation, for example rather than playing as Sam Fisher, i'm now a former 3rd Echelon Splinter Cell, getting revenge for my daughter's death and the betrayal against me, i'm in a room full of 3rd Ech..what's my course of action going to be in this particular room? what are the outcomes? do the risks outweigh the advantages of this course? then execution of chosen plan.

it's hard to think like that sometimes in tough situations, but it makes it more enjoyable when you feel that pressure and knowing your actions as a leader might get people killed, but might save people as well. it's worth trying in my opinion.

so...in the end of the long run-on..it really depends on the day, my mood, the game, and area/situation that i'm in.
