The UK Top 10 Review
< Previous Week [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.374998-The-UK-Top-Ten-Review-13-05-12]
It's been a while since I've given a full review to the whole Top Ten, so let's change that this week! Stay with me folks.
---
Video: Over 200 million people have now watched these two squirm around while getting painted into a wall. I'm going to assume you have as well.
Best Comment: sure when this guy stands naked and paints himself to camouflage into the wall its considered artistic but when i do it i get banned from baskin robbins
Song: Same as when I first heard it - it's a weirdy bit of indie, and his voice feels kinda wrong, like it's too high to be comfortable. It also takes far too long to get interesting - around 3 minutes of lacklustre solo first.
---
Video:I find myself left reeling after the first watch of this video. Perhaps a second look?
Nope. My mind is still full of fuck. Why are they on the set of Dragon's Den? And why is this random dude entering? And why is Kanye West there at the end? Fuck, I don't even know, let's just leave that video there and not look at it again.
Best Comment: is it me or does it sound like hes saying "everton"?
Song: Clearly the man has an accent. Unfortunately, I can't even tell if he is using English words. Sometimes he is, sometimes perhaps not?
The lyrics are, uh, interesting? 'I know you want it. I know you want that uh-uh-uh...' And of course you want to shake your bum bum bum bum... And what does Oliver Twist have to do with anything?
The beat is kinda repititive, and only really spiced up by that weird autotuned singing. So yeah, all in all, good for a laughing kinda dance, but by no means a good song.
---
Video: Tells a story of some kind of rustic-ly trendy romance. Then he does some sort of romantic gesture after leaving her in bed one day. Eh.
Best Comment: wats a 2 ply? ...
Song: This is the only time I've ever heard the words 'drive by' used in this manner, perhaps it's an American thing. Train's lead singer can sing, and you can hear that in the verses, but sadly some uninspired song-writing and a dull hook leave me feeling flat from this song.
---
Video: This diner appears to be getting a lot of video action lately. Not a very interesting video anyway, though it suggests that the song is about speed dating?
Best Comment: WTF Evan This Didnt Get 2 A No.1 It A Jst Found Out It Came 2 #7 Cannit Believe It!!!!! Is It Right Or Wht I Heard Was Wrong???
Song: Whatever those little car-zipping-past noises are, they should go. So damn annoying to my ears, especially by headphones. The lyrics aren't particularly clear, and the voices all sound like one, rather than anything more interesting. Boring and dull.
---
Video: She looks like that newer version of Prince of Persia. Interesting. But it's good to learn how we might tribal-dance to grime.
Best Comment: i expected sometin different like she in a crowd lookin fa somebody not dat but it is real cool doe
Song: First let us forget that she's directly referencing Johnny Cash? Or try to.
Everything that involves Rihanna singing in this song is very dull. However, the song would make for a pretty decent dance instrumental - the breakdown is pretty filthy. (I think that's what the cool kids are calling it)
---
Video: A bunch of detestable individuals break into a hotel room. Meanwhile, Tulisa dances next to a burnt-out taxi/ random wall wearing a silver/ salmon dress. Then she proclaims herself the female boss whilst defacing artwork. I guess she's having fun?
Best Comment: Just because you're young, doesn't make it cool for you to steal a goat.
Song: Painful levels of autotuned singing over an otherwise-mediocre dance tune manage to make it worse. Just not a good song.
---
Video: A man has a breakdown on a chair while two ninjas spar with fencing masks. In what way could this not be awesome?
Best Comment: Well at least internet explorer has given me one good thing
Song: It's an interesting idea to mix these two genres, and I like the idea of the drop and the chorus actually matching up for once. I wish there was a little more bass from the drop, and that the electronica was slightly more interesting, but other than that, I like it.
---
Video: I'll admit it, I laughed at the end.
Best Comment: Hey Heres Some Midol
These Cramps Are Crazy
But Heres The Bright Side
Its Not A Baby
Song: Whoever produced this track did a great job, the synth work is perfect, and the spidery guitar sounds add just that little bit extra to keep it interesting on the repeats.
---
Video: It's a lot of slow-motion chaos, I guess it looks kinda cool but it's hardly something new.
Best Comment: when i here this song at anywere i was remembered my boyfriend say to me I LOVE YOU ..
Song: Yet another song where I find the verses more interesting than the chorus. Singing for a chorus just becomes kinda dull with male voices, the voice becomes flat and loses its unique touch. Stop doing it people.
---
Video: Rita and Tinie play 'who can look harder in an industrial space'. Spoiler: Tinie wins.
Best Comment: the worst about songs like this is lyrics no sence but i love this song sexy ora
Song: I like it more on second listen; the build-up before the chorus is an interesting touch, and I just find any bit of Tinie Tempah rapping interesting. Another song that could benefit from a bit of extra bass in the chorus though.
---
Hopefully see you all next week, and please leave your comments - it makes all the difference!
