This Thread is for the community to highlight the inportant history of The Escapist community.

Naturally who else is better at doing this then the community it self ?

I'll start off with Yahtzee since his addition to the site brought in over 1000% increase in traffic this was good and bad. Good cause we had many smart intellects coming and finding others like them. Bad cause The rest were mainly just Fanboys or the average joe who would post a comment that we could all think off making it a waste of time to read.

Then there is the Escapist celebrities. Those People in the community that everyone began to know for a variety of reasons, ranging from a simply awesome avatar (you know who are/were) or from simply being a great person on The Escapist (We will all miss you Necroswanson).

And who could forget the "Customer is always wrong thread" , Yes it's old but pretty much 80% of the escapist read and posted on it so it definately counts as a inportant point of the history of the community.

My history with the community is a complicated one. When I first came I was ignorant lil bastard who had alot of puncuation problems. But after a complicated 3 or 4 years and maturing at surprising pace as well as becoming greatly wise it should be noted that my addition to the The Escapist was a minor but still relevant event since now I only post Original Threads and post with a smart sense of humour.

These are just a few things. Please it would be much appreciated if you were to contribute to the recording of the history of The Escapist Community.

I joined just over a year ago and have been posting on here ever since. Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of good stuff happened before I joined so I don't know about a lot of the good history. However, I do remember some of the older members like Mobius and Necroswanson.

Firstly... you missed the Holiday Council, the single biggest thread on here? This could be really fun to write, but it'd be really hard to do. But get enough input from others and I'd be happy to try and work my little bit of memory into it.

Only you miss Necroswanson op.

For me the history escapist starts with the small elite clique of forum people that generally treated the site as there own special club.

It then moved on to the arrival of the masses and the "Why all teh hate guys..." threads. Also people like Max the Reaper getting a fanclub because of sheer post count replacing old elite clique.

Inbetween you get your good trolls and your bad trolls and some really good threads.

Oh and Eggo getting banned was the saddest of days.

I came in during what I'll call the "Just picking up period"

Not many here, but a few were coming in at a strong pace, then BAM! 2 Months later and we have like 1000 members who frequent the forum. (Frequent meaning every day)

I'm almost up to my second year here, and boy, what a fucking year.

We all have our opinions on people.

Hello Mr. denied.

Well as you know, things only started getting good when I arrived, and started making my visionary and insightful threads that delighted gamers the world over.
/delusions of grandeur.

One thing I'd like to know is where have all the users who joined up in 2007 and so gone? I can barely see any of them.
Hello to you Furburt. I enjoy the nickname you have given me :) And yes I do appreciate your insight and great threads.

We all like you.

If you start with Yahtzee, you failed with your history.
I am going in a random order of events that everyone should know.

I thought Yahtzee's arrival brought a 400% increase in traffic. You fail statistics forever.
Strange, I researched it (Wikipedia) and it said 1000%. Perhaps wikipeida does lie.....

I only remember two things from my brief stay here.

My terrible review of Civ4

And watching a thread get de-railed by every member of the Escapist that was on at that time.

Also the discovery of an Escapist region in Nationstates was important.

A lot of the old Escapists are there.

I take it you've been banned at least once then?

What about the formation of the Artist Thread? [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.72805?page=1]
Or the Escapist Elections?
Well...one, anyway...

And the Cockney Thread?
Which has another incarnation that can still be saved? [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/362.143644?page=1]

Ultra's massively confusing gender bending scheme?

Oh, and Baby Tea's own fun addition. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.131828?page=1]
Hold on...I just realized something...Inverse Skies' thread covers pretty much all the big threads... [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.106553]
Unfortunately, I joined after some "big events" that the older members would remember.
Sigh. Curse my later joining! Curse it I say!
I'm just happy to still be here after almost a year. Yeah, we've lost some good people, but we've also had some not so good members get kicked out too.
And no, I'm not going away.
Sorry to disappoint.

And I have nothing to do with the underground history and probably shouldn't even be posting here.

But I am.

Actually, I did a little browsing back in the day. Only after AerisLives abused me for the last time did I make an account.

I do :)

Anyway, a major event would include the great /b/ Raid that took place a few months ago. Can't remember the exact dates, but basically a bunch of /b/tards tried to raid the site and it took a huge effort to fight them off. I've rarely seen the members of the Escapist so dedicated to a single purpose and so united against a common foe. Truely an epic battle of tez interwebzorz...

Believe me, I didn't either. I heard that The Escapist got rid of them pretty quickly.

I can't surely name all of the events, but when I read the other replies, I say "Mnyees, yeees. I remember that," to almost all of them.
