Well the media will always sensationalize things to sell papers or to sell a story. In the UK its not so bad, we even have a daily newspaper with a topless woman in it. My american friends didnt believe until i brought a copy next time i visited. Same with the janet jackson supposed "wardrobe malfunction" episode.....no black bars over the photos in the UK. An I also agree that singers who are role models for teen girls shouldnt be dressing like whores and behave/dance overly sexualised dance moves.

So yeah, the media react in shock over every little thing to create stories where there was none. But the everyday american man and woman are fine with sex....just like us brits are.

The prudishness of the media is a bit of a charade IMO. The big companies know that sex sells, so they get the censors to come down like a crate full of anvils on independent firms that show a bit of sideboob, while only restricting the big players a little bit. And to get away with that, they must at least pay lip service to the idea that sex in the media is bad.

Every country has sensitive ninnies, every country has people who aren't. America and the UK are like any other country.

You know in America I'd say the stereotype is roughly reversed; that the UK is more prone to censorship and reflexive disgust.

Did you really want to know why America 'is more scared of sex compared to MY country har har'? Or were you feeling a little down today, and wanted to give yourself an injection of some kind of superiority?
I think if you were actually curious or wanting to learn about other cultures, you'd have asked something more like 'IS America more scared of sex compared to the UK?'

How exactly do you get your perspective of what America does and doesn't accept? Do you read like one or two news articles about America a year, and you've made your conclusion based on those?

Hey, what about singers like Lady Gaga? She's always had tons of detractors, but she's always had ten times as many supporters and fans.

Conversely, mostly family friendly acts like Justin Beiber (well, he was a year and a half ago, anyway) gets just as much hatred as love precisely because of his squeaky-clean-ness.

Twilight gets a lot of flack for being about Vampires and having sex, but gets fifty times as much flack for being insulting to women and self reliance.

"Oh now hold on a second here, don't think you are getting away with this easily UK, my homeland..."

...wait what? Okay, so what's up with the title then? You make an equal, pretty much even case against both countries, completely and totally proving my point. What drove you to make this about which country is more stuck up?
Thank you for the post and I did say the media not the people of American themselves have a problem with nudity, sex etc and I did say the UK isn't innocent in all of this. When I wrote the thread I didn't do it to offend or pin anything but mostly express my thoughts on the matter. It's a question that many have given their two cents on and i like seeing that. No i do not read one or two american articles a year to automatically assume this is how the US is like. I watch news channels and independent US new media to see whats really going on, blogs and podcast from those who do live in the US themselves and personally I just want to know why the issue of sex is a touchy issue, so I ask many Americans here about their views. I'm still in the process of learning which is why I asked the question cause I really want to know and not here to fight. And yes I bring the UK into this cause there is two sides to this. I respect your thought but I'm not offended by it don't worry.

Because Ken dolls are anatomically correct and all of you scary monsters with functional crotches are unclean!

Translation: Americans are stupid.
Hey! I can say that I am American...

So... unless it's getting hit with a football no one in the USA has genitals

Real answer... Well the real answer IS that Americans are stupid, but if you asked a stupid American they'd tell you that it's all for the kids.

You see if a child ever discovers what a penis or a vagina is they're going to drop out of school and start torturing small animals to death and stealing everything that isn't nailed down and if they ever hear a curse word... Ohhhhhhh You don't even want to know.

So yeah... that's the jist.

Nope nope nope, I did it first. Your response doesn't even make sense!

We already have the idea that its bad for women to have sex. But its okay for them to be sexualized for the enjoyment of men. And when men predominately create the media, guess what happens?

Also that the media typically avoids the topic of sex, especially if its mass media with a large audience. (but of course sexualizing women is still par for the course in this case :p too)

Pff, I don't know why they are so scared, but then again, I don't think that the UK has a Fox News, nor a conservative party that is as...

Well, conservative(we're pretty liberal over here, on both sides)

If I were to guess, it could be that the USA was founded by Puritans, which are the strictest type of Christians(fun is sinful), so it could be that those beliefs or remnants thereof are still present in the media.

A ratings or censor system that doesn't make sense usually results from paying too much attention to the opinions of a particularly vocal, uninformed and uneducated group of voters who have a fantastic and devastatingly impractical view of what the country should be like. The more the intellectually lazy rabble of halfwits in question are pandered to, the worse they make the country for everyone else around them. Nearly every political "solution" they propose is done so selfishly, with only their own interests in mind. In left unchecked, their continual participation in politics will gradually destroy a well-functioning society from within more efficiently than an entire nest of spies, anarchists, insurgents, sectoids and chrysalids.

I think I'm done here.
