Meh i dont mind being a gamer, but yeah i play ALOT of video games normaly like at least 30ish hours a week, plus im into tabletop and RP but yeah i do agree you cant just be called a gamer for playing a few games. and i mean i will occasionaly call myself a gamer coz its easier than explaining everything im into, i dont mind being called it, but people calling like casuals etc gamers gets on my nerves a bit, they just play games were gamers.

They are stupid. And they pay no attention..My friend is a bassist and he's both dim witted and almost never pays attention.
And incidentally,he was born 8 days after you.According to your profile.

OT:We'll a lot of mainstream things get branded as something.I see gamer as something we should be proud of.

The true distinction, I believe, is this:
Casual Gamers "play".
Hardcore Gamers "game".

I think that's a fair distinction.

I don't think being called a gamer is degrading. Why would it be? It's just a lifestyle, like any other lifestyle.

I think if you went up to the people who play Wii Sports with their family at Christmas and asked them if they were gamers, they would say no. Same with the people who play Pop Cap games in their lunch break at work. My mum plays a crap load of puzzle games (she got so addicted to Lummings I had to hide the PSP) but I wouldn't call her a gamer. Hell, even my dad made me install Doom, Heretic and Wolf 3D on the work computer but still, wouldn't call him a gamer.

The only people that I would call Gamers are me and my friends, the ones who stay up late playing Icewind Dale, spend hours talking about our MW2 matches and go to LAN centres.

People I consider "gamers" are those who take games seriously.

Mainstream media just has some catching up to do. A few years ago the only people (the large, large majority at least) that played games fit that description, and now that things have changed, people are still adjusting.

You play bass, you're a bassist. People are stupid.

Well games are definitely reaching a wider audience than say...ten years ago but you have to take that into context. Its really casual, light hearted games that have come into the mainstream with the spread of games like guitar hero and consoles like the nintendo Wii and DS. And that's a good thing, the whole world is being united by the kinds of games you were once limited to playing in arcades or if you and your mate were blind drunk.

Stop talking about Bass! >.<

I think I'm a gamer, no one seems to have a problem with it.

This is how I see the word "gamer" aswell. Gaming is my hobby, something that I enjoy a lot, I do not see why I should be ashamed of it. I'm a gamer and proud of it.

If they don't keep discriminating against us, soon we will band together rise up with our suppeior intellect and reflexes.

But in all reality, I think it's because society has a deep hatred for nerds and nerdy past times like gaming. Why it's like that, I have no idea.
