My family and friends are of huge value to me. The rest of you aren't worth anything at all to me.
This. I'll defend my friends and family and all kitties with my life. As for everyone else, I care more about having a good sandwich.

The value of life itself depends on what a person has done, what a person might do, how those actions effect others either in the immediate - firefighters doing their thing - to the tangential/long-run - a business lunch meeting goes well because the chef performs well, and as a result, some guy gets a raise, allowing him and his wife to start and support a family, years later sending their daughter to college, and she eventually finds the cure for some terrible disease.
I would even go so far as to say that depending on your actions during life, the true sum worth of your existence won't be truly determined for years and years after your death, as in the case of certain world leaders, revolutionaries, the neanderthals that discovered fire, you get the idea.
No, I'm afraid it's simply impossible to judge a human's worth. I'm pretty sure there are some stranger folk out there that are trying to work it out mathematically anyway. Odd use of time and effort, but more power to them.

On the other hand, your SOUL has a definite value, although the calculator is really old. Like, Napster old. Last time I checked, mine was only worth some $40,000, though I suspect the value has gone up at least a few grand in the past couple years. A couple searches should yield the website

"How much do you charge to kill someone?"
"5 grand."
But I'm not as Serbian sociopath. I don't think people's lives are sacred and all that shit, but killing people is against the way I think I should be. Value cannot really be assigned to them.

You are going to get a lot of " human life is worth nothing" on this forum, but what do you expect from predominately white, middle class male who are going through the " life is shit phase" dominated forum.

If you haven't had an existential crisis then you should, they're crap.

I don't value many human lives above animal lives. Family/friends/pets first then any strangers and unknown animals are in the same category. In fact most animals are better "people" then a lot of humans I know.
I think you're going to have to explain how they're better "people". What do you expect of "people"?

I never said I thought they had no value. Why should an animal die when 9 times out of 10 they kinder beings then humans. I would not kill someone for money but if I had to choose it would be a tough choice between a stranger and an animal. Why should I pick the human? Did he do anything to deserve life over the animal?
And there you've attributed a human quality, "kindness", for what an animal really is, "incapable of the higher intellect required to be a dick". They're not being kind through choice, they're not able to.

Why should you pick the human?
It's usually something to do with the fact that in the grander scheme of things we are all one species, the only ones capable of recognising the fact that we're out here in the middle of nowhere and there's nothing else in existence that we know of that is anything like us. We're all alone out here, and you'd rather lose another one of us instead of some animal? Why?

That they should make others happy rather then make it suffer. Do more good them harm in the world.

Some animals have enough intellect to be aggressive or kind. Just like I wouldn't fight for my country if they were wrong I would not pick some dick human over a gentle animal. The human is more likely to cause someone to else suffer during their life while the animal (depending on what it is) is more likely to make one happy. I wouldn't chose a spider or something but a dog or whale (reasonably intelligent) I would definitely consider.

$250,000. I think that's what the Gerber Life Insurance commercial said for it's policy so at the very least we can say people before the age of 18 cost this much. Add an incremental $10,000 every year and start subtract $10,000 at age 65.

There are some i use the term lightly, people, i would happily kill for free. Plus isn't the military just a way of putting a value on life... granted that value is the cost of a magazine of ammo or even just a bullet but still. So yeah lets just say that the average life is worth keeping in an non-numerical term, but there are people out there that deserve to die, and if you want to put a price on their head to end said life, feel free to.
