There will be spoilers for S05E14 ([em]Spend[/em])

So shit hit the fan again in a major way. The slow build-up from the previous episodes has culminated in a deliciously gory return to the old zombie survival shtick. The foreshadowing from the previous weeks made me dread the return to Bad Decisions Sunday, but luckily this time the characters we want to hit over the head for pulling dumb shit aren't the ones we are rooting for. [em]Spend[/em] shows us the cruel consequences of the kinds of stupid actions we were bemoaning in TWD's previous seasons. Unfortunately it cost another black actor his job (I was hoping we could keep some more racial diversity after leading Tyreese to the chopping block).

Noah's dead, barely half an hour after receiving five minutes of character building (I should have seen that coming), sacrificed to show us that the Alexandrians really are the sheltered cowards we suspected they were. To highlight that discrepancy even further it's "As all things are equal" Eugene who gets his moment of heroism when he carries unconscious Tara into the rescue van. McDouche bites the bullet, but not before revealing to Glenn that the people they had lost before were dead because of their ineptitude. And speaking of Glenn (who is possibly my favourite character [kill him and I will drop-kick the writers, I swear]), trapped in the revolving door, seeing Noah rent apart completely shatters him. After the admittedly dramatic scenes from the trampled closed community it seemed he had regained the mental fortitude to carry on, only to have it brutally torn out of him.

I particularly liked the scenes with Carol and little Ben. Even Rick suspected something was up at the domicile of Mr. Pete ViolentDrunk and Jessie McPrettyface, but it was Carol who, through her own experience, was able to lay her finger on the darkness that is lurking beneath the solar-powered roofs of Alexandria. The only solution she offers Rick is to kill Pete, which to me seems perfectly reasonable (I mean, who barges into people's houses, drunk at two in the afternoon?)

Abraham, albeit reconciled with Rosita, is still dealing with some pretty severe PTSD, but he too gets his moment of liberation when a horde of walkers stumbles into the construction site they were borrowing metal sheets from. Rushing to the rescue of a trapped girl, he almost single-handedly fends of the zombies, revelling in the all-familiar dance of guts and entrails.

Finally there is Gabriel who we saw metaphorically throw his priesthood away a few episodes ago, this time tearing up a bible, unable to reconcile his faith with the happenings in the United States of Zombies. In the last minutes he delivers a speech to the Mayor like a mad zealot, warning her that the group she was so fervently trying to take in is actually a hiccup away from a violent coup.

TL;DR: I'm happy that the show has fairly sensibly been returned to a more high-tensed situation.

Glenn and Eugene are in trouble, knowing Glenn is a (too)good guy he probably brought that coward who got Noah killed back, and that guy will bullshit and lie about how the town leaders son died so people don't know he's a coward. Still being strangers to Alexandria this will throw a lot of suspicion on Ricks group. They did a great job bringing all these different events to a boiling point together. I wish whoever is show runner now was in charge from the start.

Comic spoilers:
I am surprised they killed the town leaders son, in the comics after Rick is chosen to lead the kid is a constant thorn in his side, thinking he rightfully owns the place until he organises a failed coup, but Rick spares his life and he lived until he try's to use the villain Negan to take over and Negan just stabs him because he doesn't like the guy(lol)

Can't exactly blame Gabriel. I mean, are they not planning a coup? Granted, they may not go through with it, but they're certainly still preparing for one. He's not entirely wrong to say that about the group.

The current leader seems to have growing suspicions, and with her son dead, she may go off the deep end. She doesn't appear to have really experienced loss during the downfall, so it'll be a first. She may go the route of the Governor.

I did like that the death in this episode didn't feel too contrived. Usually the show is full of contrived bullshit to some extent or another, and pretty much everything bad that happened in Season 4 can be attributed to that (DIG A GODDAMN FUCKING MOAT YOU DIPSHITS! YOU HAD MONTHS TO DO THIS!) so it was nice having writers come up with anything. I mean, one guy carrying the ammo, the other the guns, kind of stupid, and Eugene could've just driven a lap and shoot the glass, but it seems like something that somebody might fairly not think of in that situation, especially Eugene, so I'm not going to bang on about this one like I usually do.
Eugene sucks at aiming too, he'd have probably had to get too close to the door to be sure he wouldn't hit his friends.

Not really. All you have to do is aim high while they stay low. Its hard to miss your mark by eight feet directly down when you're at the most 30 yards away. Depends on how the glass breaks, if it breaks they'll burst right out with the zed likely hot on their tail, but even if it doesn't break from the shot, it'll be compromised enough that one could bash through it near the bullet hole, with enough force in a single location that the zed wouldn't have the inteligence to target in their glass panes.
In any case he really did a great job, that loud popping sound you hear is when he finally grows a pair of balls.

Actually we can blame him a lot. This is a guy who let a group of people get torn apart because he was too afraid of opening his doors to potential danger, keep in mind that when he was in the same situation (locked outside the church with walkers) Michonne and Carl risked their lives to save him. In fact the group has been sticking their necks out for Father Gabriel since the beginning and he betrays them. I think his choice of words when he's talking to Deanna are really telling of his character. "They don't deserve paradise." The hypocrisy alone is enough to make him unlikeable. Not only that, but he can't seem to make up his mind about what he believes in, he goes from burning his collar to tearing up bibles, to ranting about Satan. I was really hoping he would turn out to be a decent character, but I guess the writers couldn't resist painting him with the wacko religious zealot brush.

And actually no, they aren't planning a violent takeover. Preparing for things to go bad and plotting a coup are two different things. And we can't even be sure the whole group would support Rick's decision if he decided to, Daryl refused to even carry one of the guns that Carol stole from the armory.

They talked about it in the after show, the guy (I think his name is Nicholas) is in the van, with Eugene holding him at gunpoint. I agree though, if they bring him in alive he'll just try to incriminate the group. I was kinda hoping Glenn would kill him. I hope he gets a horrible death for what he did to Noah, and to a lesser extent what he did to Aiden.

I liked Noah, and I really like Tyler James Williams, so it was a hard episode to watch. Couldn't really care whether Tara pulls through or not, but I enjoyed Eugene's newly-found courage, I just hope it doesn't stop there.

With Aiden dead, Gabriel casting doubt on the group and Rick on the verge killing Pete, I'm guessing the 90 minute finale is going to be a messy one. I wonder who's gonna be in control of Alexandria at the end of it.

You know, I REALLY wanted Nicholas to be the one to die instead of Noah just to show how stupid he really is... Seriously, fuck that guy! I really wanted him dead after Noah died... Just one clear shot is all it will take...

Other than that, fuck Gabriel... I hope he dies before and/or during the finale... He doesn't deserve paradise at this point...

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that Gabriel doesn't survive this season. Rick's group has been fairly consistent in dealing with bullshitters this season that they wouldn't let something like that slip. That doesn't mean that they'll kill him, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just left him to his own devices when things eventually go south.

I was starting to like Aiden; he was starting to accept Glenn's leadership/advice without fussing over it. Sucks that his brashness caused things to fall apart.

Judging from the preview, it won't be good for either sides (Rick group and Alexandria residents). The planned to killed Pete is a bad idea (in saying so he can't exactly arrest him given to the lack of a proper trial) and Deanna will not be the logical politians needed for the situation given her grief for her son.

Gabriel becoming a zealot is somewhat understanding despite how cliche/ tvtroupe it is (how there ever a religonist character that doesn't lose his or faith in a dystopian world) but in saying so given a zombie apocalypse, there won't be any "good" people left or rather more neutual people at the most. Beside would it had been better for Alexndria to had taking in the Governor or those cannibals instead of Rick??? Yeah Gabriel suck for the lack of willpower well faith, I still wish the more optimistic character like Tyreese, Hershel or Dale were still around.

Still what the worst came happened? Rick group leave Alexandria which won't suprised me given that the group doesn't stayed in one place for long. Granted when it does happened, I prefered to have an overshot of the group leaving from one side and a massive horder of walkers coming in from the other side. Alexandria is too weak to survive outside of their wall.

Also I shouldn't be suprised with Noal departure but still, it make Beth effort to recuse him in the first place in vain. In saying so it probably somewhat better that he died knowing the fate of his family than to had die in that prison of a hospital forever wanting to know how his family were doing. The question I liked to know is did he had more screentime compared to Bob or those two immates?

Given the black character quota, does this mean that Morgan will appear soon and joined Rick group? I thought he was the reason how that recruiter know Rick name in the first place (they still haven't explained how he know his name unless he was stalking them for long).

One last thing, what was the final word from the political son (I couldn't hear him properly other than "let me go")? Also if I were him, I would had wanted to asked for a bullet to the head but yet again he could had wanted to feel the pain as a way to repent for his cowardness in the past. Oh Eugene soooo should had make a joke about the dubstep like "Hey you walkers like dubstep right??"

Captcha double crossed, how fitting

I was happy with this episode and the whole concept around all the different situations, however, the show seems to lack the ability to keep some kind of realistic consistency that will keep the viewers guessing.

Every time a character gets any development they end up dead, and lately all those characters seem to be people of color. Does the show have some cap on token black characters? We gain a new one and they kill off another; and it's always within a couple of episodes of the new character appearing.

I understand why they kept Gabriel and his place in the story but I'd still rather they have kept Noah and left Gabriel at the church.

As for the impeding doom that seems to be coming at the finale, I look forward to it and can't wait to see how they change it from the comics. It's been great seeing little bits of the comic come through and mixed with the TV show's story.

I also think that Noah's death was kind of stupid. I mean, they just gave him a bit of development, seems like the writers don't know where to go with the character and then just get rid of him. And some things are just repeating "Oh Sophia is missing, we have to look for her during a whole season... welp, she's dead." "Oh Beth got kidnapped, let's rescue her and even give her a whole episo... OPS, dead too".

And of course "Hey, our newest black guy got some character development and it's in the middle of some deep change (Tyreese confronting that he has to take action sometimes, Bob the Optimistic guy and Noah wanting to become an apprentice and a very important asset to Alexandria), well, seems like there a NEW black character on the way, so let just off this one."

I really like the show, but some deaths seem to be just for the sake of it, and that's kind of lame. Oh, and it really seemed weird to me that Carol would go "You gonna have to kill him Rick", she would find an excuse to do it herself, or to help Jessie solving it, not recurring to Rick.
