So I've just finished season one of the walking dead (the show) and i'm interested in getting the game, but i want to know if it spoils anything about the show before i get it. Also i looked at some gameplay and it looks like it's essentially what heavy rain was trying to be (emotional, with good characters and story) only actually well made. Is it like heavy rain? i really do like heavy rain and think it's good as long as you know what you're getting into beforehand.
No spoilers for the show, and minimal for the comic, from what I understand.
There's a character in chapter 1 who shows up in the show and the comic and I guess this is their backstory thing.
Then there's another one of the comic characters as a recurring character for a few chapters too. Other than that, nothing.
Never played Heavy Rain so I don't know about that.
There is no spoilers for the show and comics. You do meet Glen and Hershel, but nothing is spoiled.
Gameplay wise, yes, it bears a lot of similarities to Heavy Rain. But unlike Heavy Rain, The Walking Dead uses a unique cell-shaded art style which makes it look more like the comic. And The Walking Dead controls a heck of a lot better and it doesn't shove quick time events down your throat every 2 minutes. And don't worry, it doesn't give penalties for screwing up qte's.
And as it has been said before, a few reoccurring characters from the shows and the comics show up, but they aren't very spoiler-y.
Just go buy the game. It's good. Like, really good.
The only thing it shares with the show is the setting and one single character, so there aren't really any major spoilers. Well, there's one thing, but it's more of a background, how-the-world-works thing...
The fact that everyone is infected and they all come back as zombies, no matter how they died. It shows up early in the second part of the game, but is plot point near the end of Season 2 of the show
Other than that one detail, the two are separate and don't impede one another in any way.
As for the gameplay, I never played Heavy Rain, but the gameplay isn't the game's strong point. It mostly serves to draw you into the story and the events. For instance, there's a sequence where a man's leg gets chopped off. It could have been a cutscene, but you're required to click for each chop. For me it helped bring home what was happening, especially considering that there is an alternative to the amputation. There are a bunch of sequences like that, where the "gameplay" isn't really needed, but helps highlight the events. There are some minor QTEs, nothing too hard, the occasional shooting sequence.
The "meat" of the gameplay are the conversations and the puzzles. The puzzles are for the most parts fairly simple and straightforward, sensible even. Of the two, the conversations are where it's all at. Zombie games/movies/shows can be about two things - Zombies or people. This one is about people and how they deal with the extraordinary circumstances they are placed in. It's more of an interactive experience than a game in some respects, but the interactive aspects elevates it above what it might have achieved if it was in a purely passive medium like a TV show and it's what makes it great.
On a mildly related note, if someone could answer me a spoiler-ish question regarding the previous spoiler in my post:
If everyone in the Walking Dead universe is already infected, then why do Walker bites still infect people? I know "being bitten" is pretty much iconic to zombie settings, but in this case it doesn't really make much sense...

In response to what you said, don't read if you haven't finished season 2 (not sure where it comes into play in the comic books).
Its pretty much like if you have the Flu virus in your system you can fight it so long as its in a small amount. However, if you get a big ass dose of flu pumped right into your veins than your gonna get sick. Its pretty much the same in The Walking Dead, everybody has it but its in such small degrees that it only infects you when you die and your immune system shuts down OR you get a big ass helping of zombie saliva mixed with infected blood and what not pumped into your blood stream, causing your immune system to lose the fight. It at least proves there is a way to fight it with a vaccine or possibly through your immune system learning to fight the disease over a LONG period of mild exposure(at least from a scientific standpoint, but just because science says so doesn't mean the writers do).
If you want good gameplay, look at some of the other Telltale games and not The Walking Dead. Sam & Max and Wallace & Gromit have way better puzzles than The Walking Dead and don't feature ugly graphics.
The game seems determined to fit into the comics continuity, which is different from the TV series. To be honest, Telltale tries too hard sometimes. I had so many flashbacks playing The Walking Dead, I could swear that Kirkman himself wrote the second chapter. No ones fault, after the comics, TV series, book and the game, maybe I'm just getting a little tired of The Walking Dead universe...
Hm, yeah, the game is totally worth it, and don't worry about spoilers.

I'm not sure if this is right, but this is what I think:
The bite just has some infectious disease in it (possibly not a fictional one) which kills you quickly, but doesn't directly turn into a walker. It's not too far of a stretch given that walkers are basically piles of rotten meat, and could have any number of nasty things in their bites. Like I said, i'm not completely sure about this, but it would make sense.

That's a very hopeful answer, but if that's true, then the blood of a walker should be just as dangerous as the saliva, but I've seen no evidence to indicate that.
It's very similar to Heavy Rain game-play wise without the ball-crushingly stupid ending.
I would highly highly highly recommend that you pick up The Walking Dead. The comics, show, and video game are all set in their own little corners of the same universe. Characters have the same name but for all intensive purposes, they are all different characters.
With that said, if you plan on getting it on the 360, I would recommend waiting.
This little nugget info comes from everyone's favorite bouncy Santa [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.396777-The-Escapists-Game-of-the-Year-Voting-Has-Closed#16178589] and who am I to call the hot and sexy bouncy Santa a liar?!?

I like zombies, but believe it or not, I hardly enjoy any t.v. shows, movies or games based off of zombies. The Left 4 Dead series , The Walking Dead Game, and the Shaun of the Dead movie are the exceptions. After reading the comics, it was hard for me to get into the show. I seem to have an issue with most live-action t.v. shows because what people think is meaningful, suspenseful acting, I think is corny, hammy, and I tend to laugh or feel awkward and uncomfortable. Unless it's a comedy, then it makes it easier, because it's supposed to be silly. I also don't like it when they take characters that are already in place and make too many changes or even change whole sequences. It doesn't sit well with me.
I can say that nothing will be spoiled for you. I really got into the game and I think it's excellent. You should pick it up.
The zombie bite kills you through diseases. Imagine a rotting corpse. The amount of disease from said corpse chomping on you. This gets into your blood stream and kills you. Then the "zombie" virus takes over and turns you. The zombies aren't "more" infected or anything. That's why if they cut off the limb and clean up the wound, you can live i.e. dale in the comics.
