Apparently this is a thing now.
Take a look [http://store.steampowered.com/app/226700/]

"The War Z is now available for purchase on Steam. Valve and Hammerpoint Interactive collaborated to address community feedback, update the Steam store page, and make the title available for purchase worldwide. In addition, a patch has been released to update existing customers. As such, the special refund offering extended for The War Z Steam customers who previously purchased the title has concluded."

Thoughts? Opinions? It should be interesting to see the community reaction to this, considering... wel, it was kind of abysmal before. Various news sources reported on the sham, pretty much every forum was filled with hate threads, the creators tried to back up their decision with rather... unintelligent statements.

If you want a better summary of the whole affair:

I'll wait for another video inspection before I pass judgement. I'm not holding my breath however.

Well we knew this was going to get back on Steam sooner or later. I highly doubt the game has gotten any better, but since it's back up there, we can only assume that to Steam, the game meets it's standard of quality.......even though the game itself is not a quality product.

Wasn't going to go away forever. But if you're serious about reporting on this game, you should give a video of it's current state, not one of the state it was in when people first reviled it. I'm pretty sure everybody who hates the game has already seen that video.

I bought the game from their website, prior to launching on Steam, and frankly I really enjoyed it. It was clearly going after Day Z, but I had a lot more fun with War Z then I did with Day Z so I didn't really care. No different then the two dozen or so military shooters clogging up the market from my point of view.

I don't think it should have been released on Steam in it's previous form though - it was clearly not ready for prime time, and didn't reflect that fact in any of it's material.
It's in a substantially better place now - their Anti-hack stuff actually works, Server rentals are terrific, less bugs, glitches, etc. Though, again, I still don't think it's ready for prime time.

There are numerous little flaws and the lack of polish, but the real issue is that they're still working on adding the rest of the features advertised on their websites. Namely Skills and Vehicles. And, until these are in, it's still really just a Beta in my opinion.
It's still fun, and I enjoy the game I paid US$15.00 for, but yeah - I think they're launching much too early.

It was mainly just for people who missed out on it the first time around.

Personally didn't care much for the game or the whole kerfuffle but I thought this might interest some people. Might also be hard to find a video of it in its current state, seems it was only released earlier today.

I highly doubt it could have gone much worse. Pretty much the only way it could change was for the better. Also, it seemed that the devs actually listened at the criticism...for one reason or another and even issued some apologies. I'd say they didn't want to suffer even more from the negative publicity but who knows, they could have been genuine. At any rate, they seemed to to focus on smoothing out the issues.

I've got no idea what the current state of the game is nor do I really care but with I think two months should have been enough time to fix most outstanding issues and bring the game into a presentable form. They probably needed to crunch somewhat through the holidays but alas, that's the price to pay.

I played the game since the outcry and I gotta say that's a lot better.
It's not perfect and it's missing a lot of things, but it's pretty fun if you are into the whole survival thing.
Just wish the community wasn't filled with assholes that will kill you first sight...

Even so those are just standard gameplay videos. Nothing really discussing what's changed.
I expect someone like TB will make another video on it that goes in depth and when/if they do I'll do my post to edit it into the OP but ti doesn't seem like there is right now.

the problem with the war z wasnt really that it sucked (it totally did), its that they lied on their description. Like, bold-faced lied. Steam has a lot of shitty games on it, but you can't say your game has something when it has nothing, and if you read the description they had to actually put up to get it back on Steam, it's clearly showing itself as a pretty bad game, including its metacritic score of ~23

After Revelations 2012 i've lost faith in Steam's supposed "quality checking"

Ohhhhh noooo. That's... Noooooooo

Well the Day Z cash-in is bad apparently. Who knew? Maybe they actually improved it but I doubt it's gonna be that much better, just call it a Beta. Please? We will stop laughing at you then. Honest!

Yeah...

Ima wait for the stream of videos from people who clearly purchased the game legit and in no way pirated it knowing full well it's probably still a jambalaya of AIDS & fail that Hammerpoint probably didn't fix & only made worse.

I wonder how many burgers Titov bought Newell in order for this game to actually appear back on Steam.

Eh, I'm not really surprised they let this get back in. People need to take responsibility on what they buy, and research first before buying stuff. Plus, it has a metascore rating of 23/100 at the side, if that doesn't scream DON'T BUY THIS, I don't know what does.

Plus, Steam let Dark Souls stay in the market. If that was allowed to stay, then I can't see why WarZ isn't allowed to stay as well.

TotalBiscuit actually did a second video on WarZ. Though this time he did it in his content patch I believe. From the last 3 days...not sure which one it was.

Basically: They changed the description of the game so it's a bit more accurate, but didn't fix much of anything since the first video TB did on it.

A more important question....irrespective of the game's current state (maybe it's amazing now and delivers on everything it promised), would anyone buy this Redone version, knowing this game's sordid, underhanded history? Would you give money to this dev and ignore how they (what I understand of the original issue) lied, plagiarised and misrepresented the game?
