So I noticed on Steam that The War Z just released, and is now currently the top-seller on Steam. My first thought was that this was strange, seeing as development of this started long after DayZ did, you'd think it'd need a bit more time.
Turns out, it did. The Destructoid's done a piece on it too

There is so much going on here I can't fathom to catch up, it'd be interesting to hear what the Developers have to say about all this in the coming days/weeks.

UPDATE:
Gamespy's done an interview with the developers.
It is the single-most horrifyingly hilarious transcript I have ever read.

My wig... this really is appauling!

They should go work for EA they would be welcomed with open arms for the cash haul on this steaming heap of dog turd!

Check List:
Unfinished Game being sold as complete (more like beta)
Lying about content on the steam page (1 up on peter monoleux)
Free to play model using a £15 entry fee
Fake 'screen shots' used to sell the game

Welcome aboard EA go make us some money fine sirs.

I played Day Z abit and i actually liked the looks of this game, glad to hear i didn't buy it. The promises made about this game are a work of fiction at best and plain downright fraudulent at worst.

I er, missed out on DayZ a little bit to be honest. I rather suspect that it'll be a lot like EVE Online; an amazing, unique and player driven multiplayer experience that is both singular and authentic that I will never, ever, be able to truly appreciate. Like them people what climb mount everest and such.

I'm going to lay down a stake and say that most multiplayer games that don't do anything exceptional (like EVE, DayZ etc...) are bullshit facsimilies that aren't worth anyone's time.

What DID Petey Molyneux/Moloneux/Molonoxologist lie about? Everyone seems well narced off with him.

I nearly bought it yesterday but hopped on the forums first.

Then did some digging a round.

Saved my money and moved along.

It's selling for $13 dollars at the moment, I'd get a pitchfork to storm the castle, but that would be more expensive.

Aww, that's a pity. I was mildly interested in trying the game out at some point. Though for some reason I always had the feeling they weren't going to deliver the experience they promised (though, not to such a catastrophic degree)

Kinda shows also how pathetic STEAM is at times with their cute little "green light" or whatever system. They approve scams like this and don't green lit actual games.
It was never on Greenlight, so it's more on Valve for allowing this thing to be sold as it is.

I bet STEAM users won't even get their money back. This is clearly false advertising AND NEVER ONCE MENTIONED that the game was in alpha or beta. This was released as a finished game and advertised with all the key features that are not even in the game, let alone the game being a buggy mess.
Apparently you can get your money back, but the company is relentlessly dragging their feet about it.

Oh good god ok I'm done. I actually bothered to check the forums and this just went from scam to TOTAL ROBBERY!

Copy and paste LEAGUE OF LEGENDS terms of agreement?

People getting their WarZ and STEAM accounts banned from only speaking about WarZ?

and the worst part of all...THE GUY THAT MADE WARZ, MADE FUCKING BIG RIGS...THE GAME THAT'S CONSIDERED THE WORST GAME EVER MADE! And now apparently, the guy is already running away and is heading to make BIG...FUCKING...RIGS...2! That's right ladies and gentleman, the critically acclaimed worst game ever...is getting a sequel.

This is complete and utter hum bug. What's even worse about this is WarZ is the TOP SELLER on STEAM!
please use more capital letters, i might then understand what your saying

anyway yes valve deserves some blame for not checking what was being advertised (but considering in one of your previous posts you made a false accusation you do come across as some one who just hates valve)

and my god did the devs fuck up, as someone said earlier im surprised they dont work for EA

Did people really think that paying $13 was going to get them a complete and finished new game?

What I want to know is how this was allowed on Steam in the first place when it's clearly not finished and seems unfit for sale. Valve needs to get their act together.

What? Lots of complete games are around 13 dollars. Lots of free games are way more developed than WarZ. Especially since they're flat out lying about features of the game. This should never have been let on steam.

Not entirely serious, maybe.

I've been doing some digging into this myself. This does not look good.

Just a cursory glance through the steam forums shows a massive amount of complaints - plus a chosen few defending the game. (This alone is not unusual in the steam forums.)

But unlike the usual steam forum shitstorm in which a few very loud people rage about absolutely nothing, these complaints are serious. Something is incredibly wrong here. Like, disastrously wrong.

And now TB just recently put up a video about it if you want to see how bad it truly is for yourself:

40 whole minutes. The video is full of embarrassing visual and gameplay bugs. Here's a few quotes that sums the vid up.

"Everything I see is nothing short of shockingly bad."
"The game is clearly not 'finished', if it is, it's one of the worst games I've ever played."
"Astonishingly boring."

There's microtransactions in this game. You can buy items that can only be used once, you lose them when you die, the game spawns you into servers in one spot, with dozens of other people at the same time who all kill each other upon spawning, and the game is full of spawn-camping and apparently already awash with aimbotters.

^And this is a top seller on steam, folks!

Considering that DayZ WAS FREE
Was it?

Was it really?

Interesting......

See, I was under the (obviously wrong) impression that ArmA 2 and it's expansion, operation arrowhead, were needed to play the DayZ mod.

So while, technically, the mod itself is free ... you still need to fork out for ArmA 2 and it's expansion to be able to use it.

So, again technically, it's not free at all.

You know what. I have no issues buying into a beta. As long as they say that the game is in beta and they need support.

I did this with the upcoming free to play Path of Exile, it looked fun and the devs were looking for support, in return for my $15 I got a beta key, the game soundtrack, and the 15 dollar equivalent of in game currency for when the shop eventually opens (the only thing open for the beta is more character slots and storage slots, but you start with something like 10 character slots and 4 very large bag slots).

But a game like the war z is claiming it is feature complete! And is charging money when it has micro transactions that only last for 1 life! At least be free to play if your gonna pull BS like that! I don't want games that are in beta on steam. If I want to try a beta I can go to the dev's site, I don't want this crap on a store that is supposed to be selling full games.
