Total War games - Peasants
To keep the enemy pinned and occupied while you volley arrows into them, human barricades.

OT: MW3 (for what I played of it), all the shit and debris they put in the streets, as if I need more difficulty getting around those awful maps.

That stupid extra dungeon in Persona 3. It makes the final boss far too easy once you level up in the extra dungeon, and then the battle is far less epic and is pretty underwhelming. They should axe that.

BODY SHIELD!

Why else?

...

Wait, there is another reason. If there were no peasants, who would you repress?

OT:
Red dead redemption.

Shops.

Why were they even there? You don't really need to buy ammo as you can just get ammo by using your camp in the wilderness, and everything else is just pointless and annoying to use. I had stockpiles of medicine and never used them, because A) It was annoying to stop the battle and flick through screens to press the insta-heal button. B) Made the game easy as hell C) You would usually die before you could use it anyway.

Also related, why would you hunt or do anything like that? You get enough money looting so there's no need to cut up poor rabbits and dogs. And again, shops are pointless therefore money is useless.

In Skyrim - Dragon Scales and Dragon Bones have no alchemical properties, but are used in the manufacture of armour. So how come alchemists will buy dragon scratchings but blacksmiths won't?

In Reach - The Power Lock ability. It makes you totally invulnerable for about five seconds. But also totally immobile. So all that you gain by using it is five seconds more life before the guy with the Energy Sword assassinates you. Big Whoop [sub]TM[/sub].

In MW3 Survival mode - The message "Enemy strongpoints near your position! You might want to get dug in." seems totally redundant, since the whole point of wave survival is to find a defensible spot and turtle up.

No use of proper magic in skyrim
Erm, what? What do you mean, proper magic? Because you can cast spells, throw down runes, use things like were light, mage light and clairvoyance. You can spray frost and flame and more. How is that not magic?

Used properly, it can fully protect against any attack, and I do mean ANY, attack.

First Assassin's Creed: Throwing knives. Oh good, a long range weapon.
Assassin's Creed 2: Gun. Oh good, another long range weapon. And I can only carry six of them.
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood: Crossbow. Wow, a long range weapon, and I get twenty? I'LL NEVER USE THE GUN OR THROWING KNIVES AGAIN!

League of Legends - Tiamat
Try 2 Tiamats on any high sustained damage champ, it can be quite effective. (not necessarily of course but it can.)

OT: In Battlefield 3 - The underhand rail the guns in the assault class come equipped with. There is little to no point in NOT switching it out for a front grip as soon as you can. The only benefit it yields is allowing you to whip out your grenade launcher (should you use one) slightly faster. But you loose that very valuable front grip and you still can't carry a med pack.

In Skyrim - The Storm Call shout. It has a painfully long cooldown (600 seconds when you upgrade it completely) and it will harm everyone in the area, friendlies and enemies alike. So you don't only risk attracting unwanted attention from foes you couldn't see, you also have a good chance of hurting people you don't intend to, often risking bounties in the process. Only used it once.

Speech in Skyrim. More successful intimidation? Merchants get some extra money? The best armor can already be obtained by smithing, and the ONLY, the ONLY use for speech is the Haggling skill that makes prices cheaper for purchasing materials. The entire tree can be dumped and replaced with acrobatics for all I care.

Waste of money. Buy a Philo Stone and damage items, better value for money. Buying a Tiamat in any half-decent game is generally considered trolling. Buying more than one Tiamat IS trolling.

Why waste army slots and production time on peasants when you could be spending it on decent troops? A half decent economy is easy to get going and then you're no longer limited by cash, you are limited by production time and the number of units you can fit into an army.

I rarely use all twenty slots so having a few pesants along isn't really a sacrifice.
Besides, they are handy for garrison duty in non front line cities, when their large unit size helps with public order.

Mass Effect 2 - Shockwave, Pull, Push on anything above Nomal difficulty.
Crowd control?
Barriers, Armor, Shields? Above Normal almost everything is protected and crowd control doesn't work on targets with any kind of protection. By the time you finish stripping the defenses, you might as well just shoot them and finish the job that way.
Hell, even on normal you'll barely use them. You'll most likely use your classes special ability instead. Vanguard? Just keep charging. On normal, if you charge at every possible opportunity where it is not certain suicide, you are immortal.
Soldier? Adrenaline rush. Better aiming and accuracy and such, and far more effective overall than any shockwave, pull or throw ability.
Sentinal? Pop up your shield. With even a couple of upgrades that thing is blooming legendary.
Engineer? Pop out your robot pal. That or incinerate/overload. Both are an option dependent on the situation.
Infiltrator? Going invisible maybe isn't a lot of use at all times, but they don't have shockwave, pull or push, and it can be useful to get enemies off you and onto your squadmates (>:D)
Adept? Singularity is far better CC than any of the above.

It is the flaw with Bioware imposing the one ability limit. There is rarely a reason to use any but your most potent ability. No great alpha strikes, just one ability, over and over again with a rare variation.
It honestly makes me wonder why the other abilities are there at all. They have such little point, its not even funny.

I can account for the recoil fine. What I can't account for is that guy who walked through the door as I was reloading. A half second faster swap to my grenade launcher lets me shoot him before I die. Slower, and I die just as I get the launcher out. I personally don't use the forgrip much, and it is especially useless on the AEK or W/E that has no leftward drift (Maybe a tiny bit) and thus can be very easily catered for by aiming a bit to the left so it drifts right and into your target.
The medkit is a larger concern, but I generally survive longer by killing enemies faster than by hiding next to a medkit. When I stay still, enemies tend to find me and kill me. I move, I find and kill the enemies.

In BF3 you can attach a flashlight to a sniper rifle.

The flashlight is good for two things. Blinding people at close range and revealing your position at long range.

Think about it.

Worst part is, some people actually use it.
I'm not sure if I feel sad for those people getting suckered into the army because of military FPSs, or glad that it'll shut them up. I say this as someone joining the Royal Marines.

Honestly, I remember a thread where someone mentioned having a friend who literally thought that people in the army got to pick their load out like in CoD. And I imagine people trying to sight down a rifle by putting it in the center of their face will always be hilarious to watch...

OT: Armor Lock in Halo: Reach. Second Chance in the CoD games. I mean, I get it in things like zombies, but in the proper multiplayer it's just mildly irritating and rarely means the person lasts a token handful of seconds more, anyway.

The Ashigaru units in Shogun 2 are actually pretty good, especially if you go the clan that gets bonuses for using them (i think its the Oda). I've won the campaign on hard difficulty just using the peasant units.
And in multiplayer versus you cant afford to have a full army of Samurai or Monk units, so you need to use the crappy peasants.
