Well I think PC gamers are showing on this thread how supportive we are of the consoles. I have The Witcher on PC and I'm glad it's coming to 360, the more people enjoy this game the better. As people have said, the problem isn't that games are released for consoles but that PC versions are gimped due to the console release. Look at how good the witcher looks, then compare it to Dragon Age or Mass Effect games. Both are by a much bigger developer working with a much bigger publisher yet look distinctly average on PC.

I think the problem is less to do with consoles and much more to do with trying to attract the mainstream consumer. I've got friends who beat Dragon Age 2 and the Mass Effects, but if I sat them down to play Baldur's gate or the like they'd be unable to navigate out of the first area.

Also on GOG, what a company. Re-bought the witcher original today and will be buying several more classics because DRM free is something we should all support.

Actually, since it came for PC first this isn't really a big issue. PC gamers get annoyed at games being made on a computer, ported to a console and ported back to work on a computer. That's why Crysis 2 got worse graphics that the original Crysis.
It's also easier to remove things from a game than to add later. Ever do any software writing? Try adding shit to something after you got it working >.>, which is why Dice gets a lot of love for doing BF3 on PC first.

To be fair in the case of Crysis 2, it still looks really good despite Crytek making some pretty obvious console related choices i.e. fov, streamlining suit modes etc.

I really wish the kept the separate suit modes for Crysis 2, I don't care what anyone else says, but being able to turn on strength, pick up a chicken and throwing at a korean so hard he dies = win every time. That and being able to zip around in speed.

I guess I'm on the ok. I hardly buy games that I can find the first for. So I'll gamefly it I guess.

EDIT Just checked out GOG and the EA games have an EULA that no other games on GOG have, very disappointing that GOG didn't just tell EA to fuck off. I like Privateer and Alpha Centauri as much as the next nerd but I won't be buying them with the EULA in place.
Erm, you do realise that the EULA in question was copied and pasted from their other games, and has pretty much zero affect on what you can do with the files? And you also realise that GOG also has an EULA (which is pretty damn similar to EA's EULA, except EA had bits about data and online accounts.)?

[edit] For the record, GOG has uploaded a .pdf of the EULA in question here [http://items.gog.com/EULA.pdf].

wait wait wait...

in Crysis 2 you can't throw things super hard and kill people with them?

What the hell.. I'm so glad I didn't break down and buy the game. That was like 70% of my enjoyment from the first game.

CD Projekt is my new favorite game developer.

You watch the video and realize these guys have a sense of humor, but integrity about putting out the best version of Witcher 2 on 360(not a "port"). Console players are in for a treat, if it will be possible to enjoy it with like 5 other awesome rpg's coming out at the end of the year.

This actually makes a lot of sense. I've always known something to be the case, but never was able to put my finger on it. I guess then the term 'dumbing down for consoles' is not only an appropriate, but literal interpretation of what actually occurs. (Not this game, but a few others that were accused as such)

Not as far as I know, most gun fights occur in the streets with very little to pick up.

Edit: you can kick cars into enemies, but this doesn't happen often because you have to charge up your melee attacks now....

CD project has my faith that it will be a great port over to the 360. They don't seem the types to dumb a game down. Though I will be curious what they'll have to do to make it work on a controller.

Either way, glad for fellow 360 owners, you guys are in for a treat, don't miss this one! ^_^

The only thing I really saw in this article that I was really excited by was Dungeon Keeper coming to GOG. If they can get System Shock too, I probably won't need to buy any other games for about a year or so.

Those are the bits I am disappointed about. I'm not against EULAs per se, just the data collection parts. I have no problem with the terms of the GOG EULA. I suppose you can debate the validity of EULAs until you are blue in the face, but just because it is copy pasted doesn't mean it is any less valid than any other EULA.

Yep, and I don't really understand how people can argue against this fact. PC gaming came first, and is still far far more capable then consoles are. Why they get neglected by other studios is baffling. If developers and publishers respected the platforms equally this would never be an issue. It doesn't matter which version is release first, just that it is properly built, configured, and optimized for each platform it is released on.

Crytek got everything it deserved handling the situation the way they did. They also deserve the continued criticism with the recent patch for "advanced options." continued lack of promised DX11 features, proper high resolution textures, proper "advanced options people actually want to adjust (bloom/HDR/lens flares/ect) and it's apparent new DLC before fixes stance.

CDP is doing everything right. Releasing a game, fixing it's issues, removing the terrible DRM in a very timely and open/professional manner, and is now looking to take the great experience to another platform slowly, so there is no compromise in quality during the process.

Good for PC gamers, good for console gamers, good for the industry to have something to aspire to, and great for CDP, making it all look easy and getting a killer reputation in the process.

I wonder does this mean that GoG might get Alice before Madness Returns comes out? I sure hope so :D

Nah. The game is clearly already customized for consoles, the experience will be pretty much the same on both platforms.

God damn it. System Shock is one of the older games I've been wanting to get without resorting to torrents.
Unless it's changed recently, the first System Shock is abandonware. You're SOL on the second one though.

That 9GB resource file is going to take some compressing to get it on an Xbox 360 DVD.
I hope the 1.2 update doesn't force you to download it again like 1.1 did.

Why not? I'll even pre-order it, too.

Lemme see what all the fuss is about. At least, narratively.

The gameplay sounds like it's anti-hoarding. I usually never drink many potions in RPGs...this is going to force me to, from the sounds of it. I prefer to sell them. That makes me sad...
Better to be poor and alive than rich and dead. And you will be dead. A lot.

You can, but its very fiddly. And there's not much to pick up anyway.

The Nanosuit 2 is neutered as hell.

Except that in The Witcher 2 you'd be poor and dead anyway because potions sell for bugger all, almost always less than they cost to make, and finding any potion as loot is rare as fuck (might even be only for scripted loot).

If you really need money in the game, spend a few hours grinding the fist fights or a piss easy arm wrestle challenge. Tedious but profitable.

Adding stuff to a program that's already well written is the worst thing to do. Easy to go from a functional program to a heap of error messages. Worst case of this that I have ever seen is in an MMORPG I used to play. Let's say there weren't any bugs in it (the programming was crappy so that's a lie in any case) then they wanted to add something new. They messed up there and a few bugs tagged along, like making you disconnect every time there was a pop-up (that happens all the time too). Now that wasn't planned so they made another update programming a script to remove the bug. So yeah, in the year I played it just started running slower and slower as the layers of programming were building up. Removing bugs by removing would have been easier...
Also you're right, the graphics aren't bad at all. I'm not really one to care about graphics, but I do care about poor optimization whatever platform it is on... Got a bit annoyed at The Last Remnant PC version. It was giving me a tutorial telling me how to do things... The instructions were for an Xbox controller. I had to find out how to do it by myself...
