I wake up, go outside and everything is shaded in a reddish/brown light and all people everywhere were gone.

the wind would blow and the trees would make noise but there were no birds, no animals just me.

As i am running around getting more and more frantic I step out of a friends house i hear or notice for the first time the sound of a million voices whispering and getting closer with each passing minute.

eventually I see a mist/fog bank roll in and there are shadowy figures barely visible in it. the whispering gets louder and louder and then something grabs me from behind and I wake up with a start and I feel like I just fell form the ceiling onto my bed.

Hmm well you may be of a more religious bent than mine but still bloody nasty to have as a recurring type.
Also used to have one about drowning in the arctic....

All my latest scary dreams were to do with Bioshock. I can't recall what happened in them but I know that I was in Rapture. The thought of being in that place is scary enough I think...

I woke up crying in this dream:

I was in a mental asylum and was with a friend from school. We were trying to escape. I managed to get through the bars on the window and started running. I jumped the fence and sprinited towards a beach. On the way, I ended up in a carpark full of caravans...and clowns. These clowns were chasing me and I was freaking out. There was at least 20 of them.
I got to the beach and I though, "YES I made it! I'm free!" and I started doing a little dance. Then mum showed up. I told her the news and she said, "Sam, you have to go back now"

Thats when I woke up crying. I'm now scared of mental asylums and hospitals.

Oh, man. I've had lots of nightmares but...

I had a dream that I was in an auditorium, watching a play--but this play turned weird because they started selecting people from the audience and burning them alive on the stage.

I had one once where I was the ruler of a city and I ordered my soldiers to kill the civilians. And then I was a soldier and I was hacking people up. And then I was a woman with two small children. And the soldiers shot my husband and drug the children upstairs. I could hear them screaming when the soldiers broke their bones and then butchered them.

Bleh. Jibblies.

Last year I had a dream that the energy ball that killed you from Portal was orbiting my house saying "You took Steven Seigal from me!"

Scared the shit outta me.

I had a dream where I had a long lost older brother and he was being chased by a serial killer. I tried to save him but I was too late and I watched him die before my eyes. I was depressed for a week. That's also when I found the down side of being a single child.
*sigh*
Man, I need a freak'n pick-me-up.

On the rare occasions that I get a high temperature, I dream something like this:

Smooth, white and bulbous is good, but rough-hewn and chaotic is bad, means death.
Children come and make a mess, and I die from what has the vibe of a brain tumour.

Hard to describe. As you can probably tell. Because I did it quite badly.

I had one when I was just a kid about a basement in a large house with lots of mirrors and lots of killer clowns. That was pretty damn scary.

Recently though, I had one about an old rotten house in a forest where seemingly a guy had just died. So me and my "dreamfriends" went exploring it, only to fall through the rotten floorboards and into the basement... Which was filled with corpses. Which then proceeded to wake to life. But me, being a sucker for zombie splatter games, failed to realize that this was supposed to be scary, so I picked up the nearest blunt object and well... Started the de-zombiefication.

Edit:

That reminds me. When I have fevers, and then dream... I dream in shapes, colors or numbers. I also once dreamt in sound. That one was actually really scary. Blackness all around me, and then I hear a slight... Whooshing sound. Then it violently rises, and cuts off, while the color shifts from black to grey, then to black again.

Well it's a normal day, watching TV with the rest of my family, eating pizza. It's dark outside. We're watching some comedy. My brother starts wolfing his food down, I look over to him. He's eating out of a bowl. He's eating maggots. They all are. I look down to my pizza and I see maggots writhing. I jump up, I'm in a cold sweat. I stare at them, they just sit there, still watching. They laugh and flesh falls off, skin peels away from their faces. They almost fall apart. I saw maggots behind their cheeks, in their flesh. I run away, run out the front door and call for help. It was dark and no-one was there. I run down the street, knock on all the doors. No response. I just fall to the ground, feeling cold. The dream ends there.

I once had a "nightmare" about the world ending due to alien invasion, and I was one of the lone survivors. Quickly after the dream began, I started thinking it was like a video game, and did exactly what I would do if it were. It was really a lot more fun than it was scary.

P.S. Yes, when I do dream, which is rare, it's usually a lucid dream like that.

I was running up a downwards escalator, with people trying to kill me at the bottom and they were running after me and everytime I got close to the top the thing would speed up so I couldn't get off and was back where I started.

I can barely remember any of my nightmares, but I do remember one being how God ate me because I didn't go to church. Hey I was young at that time!

I also used to have recurring nightmares about sort of... like straight lines and the thickness of duvets. Can't really explain it but something about it was truly horrifying.
Ditto that, it's the only nightmare I can remember having, some weird surrealistic waffle that has invaded my dreams and refuses me my goddamn right to have a decent sleep.
