Best: Multi-way tie: The Bourne Identity; A Song of Ice and Fire Series; Watchmen; Red Storm Rising.
Worst: Tie: The Glass Menagerie (just because it's a play doesn't mean it doesn't suck); Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox (Fuck you, Colfer. You destroyed one of my favorite childhood franchises).

For worst books, i'd have to say "Of Mice and Men" - forced to read it against my free will, depressing and boring. Glad high school is over.
What? I loved Of Mice and Men - probably because i'm a woody guthrie fan

i wouldn't say any book qualifies to be the best or worst, but a good book i've read was 'the fountainhead' by ayn rand. written so that everyone can understand it, but still showing a deeper side for those who can interpret it otherwise.

i have yet to read my worst book. chances are i never will.

Well, for my favorite, it'd have to be Gateways from the Repairman Jack novels.

EDIT: Oops, forgot to say my worst book ever read. It'd probably be Halo: The Flood. The Fall of Reach and First Strike actually weren't that bad for books based off of a video game, but Halo: The Flood just shows that even video game-to-book translations can suck.

EDIT:(again) Sorry, but I just thought of another one I hate, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. I know, I know, I always hear it's a classic and everyone thinks it's great but fuck it, I had to read it for my class in high school and I HATED IT.

Best?: A tie between Pratchett, because he's my favorite author and Dan Abnett, because I like the excitement/gore of his books.

Worst?: Haven't met something that made me want to gouge my eyes out (yet) but I will say The Merchant Of Venice. I know it's a classic and was written for different people but it bored he living f^ck out of me.

Twilight. It's not the best book in terms of writing ability but for some reason I can't stop reading them.
Is that the book with a picture of someone's hands holding an apple against a pitch black background? 'Cause I'm seeing that book being read by like, every girl in my school.

The best book ever is The Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind. It was such a rich and thought provoking tale, I was a bit pissed the other day when I learned that a movie for it is coming, they will only ruin it.

Well I wouln't be able to tell the worse book I've ever read.

Because if a book is bad it goes onto my shelf never to be read again.
I usaly know if I want to read the rest within the first couple chapters.

Best... I dunno. I haven't really concocted a "Best Books in the Universe" for my "Best Things in the Universe."

Well, I have a couple books that I really like, but I don't know if they qualify as "Best Books in the Universe." Well, except <a href=http://www.cca.org/cm/picnic.pdf>Roadside Picnic. Partly because it's totally awesome, and partly because it was so analogous to the Chernobyl incident that scientists studying in it actually started calling themselves "stalkers." Ancients by R. Karl Largent also stands out, but is not worthy of "Best Books in the Universe." Icebound (AKA Prison of Ice) by Dean Koontz also stands out, but may or may not be among the "Best Books in the Universe."

Kept me awake at night (shudder).

So I just started reading the "Richard Sharpe" series two weeks ago. Im a really big history buff, so these books are completely captivating. But, if any of you have read these--which you probably have, does anyone think its kind of ridiculous that he has a new woman in every book. It's honestly getting really annoying now. I think the low-point was "Sharpe's Trafalgar". Opinions?

I truly hated "The Chocolate War" bye Robert Cormier, It was annoying, confusing, and had the shittiest ending of any book I had read.

It's hard to say what my favorite book is, but if I had to choose then I would pick "On a Pale Horse" bye Piers Anthony, it was really interesting and had an great plot.

Best: The Fountainhead

Worst: Eh... I'm not sure. Even though it's a poem and not a book, Beowulf is probably the most horrendous thing I've ever read.
