The example I'm giving is what inspired this thread.
I'm refering to a recent videogame "debate" on The Alan Titchmarsh Show, which included CVG editor Tim Ingham, actress Julie Peasgood and former The Sun editor Kelvin Calder MacKenzie.
Alan began by refering to the videogame BAFTAs (and called CODMW2, COD2MW), and saying that the industry had "recently" come under fire for it's mature content.

While Tim spoke perfect common sense throughout, Alan and the other two guests just demonstrated their complete ignorance of the subject.

For example, Tim pointed out that games are rated the same way as movies, Alan retorted that kids could play violent games at home instead of being stopped at the cinema, ignoring that the same point could be made for films on DVD/Blu-Ray and that parents have the responsibility of insuring that their children are not exposed to content outside their age-range which is clearly indicated by the age certificates.

Mention also goes to Glenn Beck on GTAIV and just about anything involving Jack Thompson

That's how pretty much all videogame "debates" on TV go. It really makes me wonder whether the debates on all other topics are similiarly biased.

It's unfortunate that those that comment on 'the evils of gaming' are uninformed, and probably haven't played anything other than wii sports when pissed at a party. I would be more inclined to watch these thing's if those that commented on games were actually gamers.

When you get people talking about something they know clearly about trying to bring up false accusations in order to make the person who does know what they're talking about, you get Fox News these extremely biased and completely idiotic shouting matches. Personally I think if you are going to go on television and talk about something like this, you should at least know what you're talking about. So if you haven't played the game, would you kindly shut your mouth and let the people who have played it explain instead of interrupting them.

Loading Ready Run had a particularly hilarious spoof of it.

Wow, that was Loading Ready Run? I saw that forever ago. I thought they looked familiar...

Sometimes you have to wonder what goes through these peoples heads when they make dumb ass comments like those. The whole debate stupid cause at some point movies had all these same hate against them as video games do now.

I have seen this clip and it's a typical argument for me.

The one who knows what he's talking about is interrupted, talked over and not listened to throughout the debate, when the debate ends nothing was discussed and the only thing that got through is the guy being drowned out was wrong, despite being right.

Wow, that makes me seem arrogant. I was actually in this guy place recently thats all.

I think one of the things that we have a problem with as gamers is that we ignore these supposed "studies" that are being done and completely dismiss them. If you want to be able to hold your own in these debates, look at these studies. How are they conducted? What are the parameters and metrics for their data collection? What assumptions are they making? This last one is the big one. Every study that has proven that gaming has an impact that is as negative as they are describing makes an assumption that is completely false and accepts the data as proof of their very unscientific hypothesis.

Get informed, do some reading, and tear their base the fuck apart.
