Topic.

Suprised this has not been created yet. Well sure, theres plenty of "Bad/worst games" thread but none of them especifically aim towards indie games. So yeah. Lets tell what indie games are (as always, in our opinion) the worst to us.

I will start with this ************:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/f4/Bastion_Boxart.jpg/255px-Bastion_Boxart.jpg

Because I am STILL a noob in this forums, this image probably dosnt renders right here and most people wont even bother clicking on it since in the URL it already tells you thats the games name is...

BASTION. I honestly dont get what people see in this game. In short, it suffer badly with the pretty bland gameplay. This is always a first for me, I dont care/CANT care about the story of a game if the gameplay is not at the very least decent enough. Its just how I work. Its probably the same reason of why I dont enjoy BIOWARE games...

No flames or anything. I respect the people who liked it, but its just not for me. Oh well.

As always please try to stay civil :)

I don't know, I enjoyed Bastion, I found the gameplay enjoyable, a good story, and a excellent soundtrack. I wouldn't say its as good as most of the AAA games but pretty good for 15 bucks.

For me it would have to be SPAZ. Jesus christ is that game fucking boring, I couldn't get past the tutorial without being bored to tears. Seriously all you do is fly around in a little spaceship with awkward controls picking up rocks and occasionally having to pewpew at spaceships in the worst combat I've played. I payed a dollar for it and I still feel like I overpaid. Honorable mention goes to the Torchlight series.

Well, I haven't played many indie games, so the one I think is the worst I've played, isn't necessarily a bad game.

Braid.

It's just... bleh.

Pretentious pseudo-intellectual nonsense :D

Exposition dumps via text? Great ¬_¬

This video sums up my opinion of the game.

It just feels horrible to me. It's feels like a shoddy Street Fighter III: Third Strike/Garou: Mark of the Wolves.

Yuuuurp.

What a pretentious pile of ****.

Edit: This coming from someone who has probably played a few more indie games.

You son of a *****!
Lol just kidding that's a very respectable position. Gameplay is the defining trait of GAMING after all :)

Personally the worst indie game I've ever played is one of those Japanese "softcore porn" games. Don't Die dateless dummy is the only one I can remember off the top of my head. Me and my friend used to goof off with those things for yucks. They're so stupid.

I thought Limbo was awesome, it adopted a show, don't tell method of storytelling with a style that very much fit the story.

Braid's overall story (the whole atomic bomb thing) was a load of bollocks and had nothing to do with anything in the game.

Braid was boring and stupid. Though some of it might be because I am not a huge fan of puzzle platformers but I liked Limbo.

I am suprised so far no one has mentioned Minecraft...

If it werent for Bastion, it would have been my number 1 choice. But at least it does what it wants to do WELL, so bonus points for Minecraft.

I'd say 'The Path'. It had the potential to be an interesting game and I don't think it was awful, but you have to be really patient to even get into the story. Plus, the gameplay elements (or lack thereof) were obnoxiously outlandish. If it were executed better, it wouldn't have been nearly as boring.

Probably Home. There's very little gameplay, it's very linear and your "choices" barely seem to affect anything at all. Not a bad concept, but it should have been freeware.

There's much worse then Bastion, and I didn't even like Bastion. Bastion is like, one of those midlevel indie games. The real worst indie games are the ones that are sold on Xbox Arcade for a buck.

There are some gems among them (breath of death 7, dead pixels, I maed a game with zombies init), but for every good game, there are at least 20 that are just like "OH GOD NO!!!!"

btw, if you have an xbox and don't have dead pixels, what are you doing? It's one of the best little indie zombie games ever made. At least that can be purchased for a buck, and he made free DLC for it (although I suppose they were basically just challenge modes, but still, freaking free dlc on a 1 dollar game!)

Journey. That game was simply awful in every respect: controls, immersion, visuals, audio, and presentation. I do not understand how anyone looks upon it favorably. I feel like a sociopath in a society of care bears.

Journey isn't an indie game, it was funded by Sony.

So I can conveniently ignore all that hate and pretend you said nothing but nice things about it, so I don't have to strangle you with your own intestines :D

Well arent you the hipster of the decade?
And for me, Super Meat Boy.
I never got what the fuss was about, it was more or less a boring platformer that had shitty control schemes, almost forced you to play with a controller on pc, and the level difficulty was all over the place.

Super Meatboy found a niche. It was sort of billed as a cooky superhard platformer that focused more on quick repetition and muscle memory then fine nuanced control, and it reinforced that with the idea of time trials, and the replay system which sometimes created hilarious replays of hundreds of little meatboys scrambling to their goal. The difficulty was a little wonky, but I always found it exhilarating to finish a level that was kicking my ass for a while.

In anycase, I thought it was a great little game.

I admit that Super Meat Boy has a niche, but I personally find "trial and error" to be the lowest form of challenge. Whether or not I beat a level should be a matter of skill and reflex, not memorization.

Even some of the old NES games could be beaten the first time around with no prior knowledge of the level layout assuming you knew the mechanics.
