Assassin's Creed 1.
I didn't think it was that bad. Maybe it's because I picked up AC1 when there was already a sequel in the works, and I knew I was safe, but I was probably more fascinated that disappointed.

Maybe I'm just ignorant, but you don't just leave a single standing game with a cliffie like that, do you? (I'll bet there have been many, many games like that. :\ )
Well it's true, massive cliffhangers usually mean a sequel is on the way. However, at the time it was shortly after release and all I got for my hard work was one line of dialogue from Desmond? Well gee thanks.

[Obviously ignoring the Broken Steel add-on]

So guys, whatabout you? Dyou feel the same or have any others to share?

NOTE: Please be gentle about the spoilers!
I'm a huge Silent Hill fan and i bought the Shattered Memories like a good little fanboy that i am about that series. All the game, all the running around just to see that stuff happen and people died... but nothing about the hero (Harry Masson) until you found out that He was married to Dalia Galespie (Major kick in the nuts of the fan) and that it was just a Cherril/Heather Masson psycho moment because she can't get over the dead of her father? So all, everything was pointless. The audio/photo log was pointless because it was all in her head? And not only didn't they "gave a new perspective on the series" with that reboot... but they scrap everything that happen in the later installment. Silent Hill 2? Never happen. Silent Hill 3? Nope. Silent Hill 4? Those character doesn't exist in this world anymore. Wow, I would like to borrow Yahtzee's word for a moment and say that they couldn't have miss the point if the fired in the wrong direction and the point was in another country. And don't ask me to put it in a spoiler tag, that travesty doesn't need such privilege.

That is true. I remember freaking out at first after the game, but then I calmed down, and realized that I was okay with the ending.

I will never be okay with Fallout 3's ending, though. How in the world was I supposed to know the code? That, and the fact that I couldn't play after, was way more disappointing than AC1, in my eyes.

Okay, here is a crash course in using the Spoiler tabs.

Type it in like this (minus the underscore)

[spoiler_] *Insert spoiler here* [/spoiler_]

So that it should turn out like this

Be the bad guy, take out these symbols of strength in purity of your world just so you can bring your girlfriend back to life and she Dumps you. My darker side was rightly amused, but the public face was righteously outraged.

Anyways, on topic, I'd have to say the ending for Fallout 3 pre-Broken Steel.

haha:p no sweat. interesting you should say that though, on another thread i started entitled 'the most emotional video game endings', loads of people commented saying Shadow of the Collossus. still need to play that game omg o.o
Rumor as it that they are doing a compilation of Shadow of the collossus and Ico for the PS3. I'll be waiting for that thing to hit store shelves to play both at the same time.

All that repetitive gameplay and grinding for nothing.

It was told you again and again through the game. I first play a good character, follow the story and push the button... only to see the ending in 4 hours of gameplay. I was pissed off.

Ok, how about something different?
Master of Orion 3. If you win the game by defeating all other players, you get a little render of some ships approaching a planet and some voice over akin to "You are now the only living thing left. Congrats..."
Kind of a letdown, after Master of Orion 2 had that cool rendering of the Anterans being killed, but whatever...

Here is all you need to know. The town is alive and want your soul to his body count. It shift reality not only to scare you but to kill you as well. And if that doesn't sold you on it, theses will:
and the Game Over screen

Borderlands:

"Crap how do we end this game? How about throwing in the monster from Watchmen? Yea!...Wanna play again?"

Also Fable 2:

"Finally this is the epic battle I have been waiting for, you killed my sister. Prepare to die! *BOOM* I won?"

The most irritable ending that I remember at the moment is the, you guessed it, Fallout 3 ending.
I dunno what happens if you play the evil character, I always play the good guy, and I died...DISSAPOINTED!!!
I bought the game of the year addition for Fallout so I got all of the add-ons.
After that I got bored of Fallout 3...after several days of gameplay xD

Why in the hell has nobody mentioned Borderlands?
That was the worst ending to any game ever.
Your character dreamed of finding the vault since he was a child, then some cyber chick tells you you have a chance to find it, you go through A LOT of shit to get to it, find the key, lose the key, then fight a giant goddamn tentacle eyeball monster of DOOM, and in the end the lying cyber ***** tells you, "Oh yeah by the way, i was lying to you THE WHOLE TIME and you will NEVER get to even SEE the vault in your lifetime. I was just leading you on so you could make it so I can get to it in 200 years!
Why does nobody else have a problem with this? Am i missing something here?

Edit: Ok, so a few people mentioned Borderlands, but not for the same reasons.

Bully. You know, the PS2 game, and then Wii, X360 and then PC game? The story just...ended. Like, right after you fight the end boss, in 90 seconds it's over.
This! Man, I was so upset. I was like... Wait, are you kidding me? Then you just had free roam, which is fun and all but still, I really wish there had been something more.

Honestly, I think the Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands ending was bullshit.

::SPOILERS:::

The way that he ends up killing his brother, then screams his name, then...... credits roll. It says nothing more. No secret ending, no unlock-able endings. Just that. That's pretty much a cock tease ending >_<

kane and lynch. both endings suck and the story was so good before hand. escaping from death row, car chases, bank-jobs, prison breaks, fighting your way from the top of a skyscraper to the bottom...oh yeah and shitty endings

Wow I think I made a thread like this not to long ago

OT: going to have to go with Fallout 3, great amazing game with a very anti- climatic ending.
