Well, lucky it's gross exaggeration then isn't it. If you're publicly urinating...and can be seen then yes you have a problem. If there's a child there who can see you, double trouble. If you're down some alley and out of sight, no problem. How? What definition are you using for discrimination? The city has ruled that for the enjoyment of all it's citizens publically owned property will be smoke free i.e. people who don't smoke but want to use public facilities can do so freely. Smokers can similarly use these facilities so long as they don't smoke. As smokers don't constitute a class as defined by the law, smoking itself is a choice, non-smokers are negativly impacted by smokers when they smoke, and there is no compelling reason why smokers need to smoke in these locations, I don't see how an argument for discrimiation can be made.
I have, I laid out the reasons I don't see how it counts. Feel free to actually rebut them. Smokers can't smoke in public buildings...not discrimination. Black people can't drink from certain water fountains...discrimination. There's a difference. Just because you're not given the right to light up where you please, for perfectly valid reasons, it doesn't mean that societal forces have aligned to repress you.
There's a law here regarding people illegally occupying your property ("squatters"): if you want them out, you can't just give them the boot, you have to find them a place, and then pay to relocate and set them up there.

This for me, if they honestly removed punishment for any sort of violence, I would be happy as fuck. Yeah because the university has an interest in keeping those buildings fresh for the next person who is moving in and perhaps doesn't want a room covered in blu-tac marks. The fact is you were warned, you did it anyway, and then you're shocked that you got punished. That's what the fine was, a punishment designed to stop repeat behaviour. The school has to bring someone in to clean those walls, or repaint them, and that costs money. Throw in the cost of having someone inspect the rooms, the cleaners, paperwork needed to hire a firm, the cost of paying the firm, and so on and you're looking at a cost for the university which quickly adds up across multiple rooms.Shibito091192 said:

Oh I get it. It's annoying and an inconvenience, it makes your life just that little bit more difficult. It's stressful and frustrating and rather a chore. But it's also not discrimination. It's not irrational. It's not without perfectly valid and legitimate reasons.
All I'm saying is that the rule is not outrageous and nor is it particularly offensive. It's not been done with malice and it's not designed to cause suffering. You may think it's stupid but you at least have to cede that it's rational.

It's not a law suit but it is the way university bureaucracy functions, any organization that large necessarily involves multiple actors to deal with even the simplest task. The amount of paperwork involved in making sure dorms are up to standard, including inspections after move-out and before move-in to make sure they're in a standard fit for residence, is enormous. Every one of those pages represents time and money.
I agree with you, the guy should have just scrubbed the walls himself. I did when I lived in halls. I'm just saying that he knowingly broke the rule and now he's complaining about getting caught and punished. The punishment makes sense, he was informed, he did it anyway. Why the sense of justified rage after the fact?

I can wave to the people in my line, while the teacher who stands there for five minutes makes me go out the fire escape, through the often wet and muddy playground, up a stupidly crowded set of steps that we were supposed to be not going through anyway, hence the detour (wtf?) to get to that line.
