Hello rest of the world.

I have a great passion for theatre; in spectating and in practicing. I?m planning on putting a show together soon but I can?t shake this feeling that it?s all been done before, if you know what I mean. I?ve been wondering if there?s really any point to it all what with TV, Film, the Internet etc. I mean? what does theatre mean to you, if anything, in this day and age?

Oh, and any ideas for the show would be greatly appreciated lol ;-)

It's always worth it if you're going to put a smile on someone's face. Good luck with your show and welcome to The Escapist.

Sorry to burst your bubble but i would much rather go and watch a movie than see a play. I know not everyone would say the same but unless your doing some slapstick or something kind of like Monty Python then i wouldn't bother going to see it.

There is a point to it, a lot of people go to theatres to see plays so there is clearly an audience out there that enjoys it and isn't just stuck in front of the tv for entertainment.

As to what it means to me I guess not too much at the moment as I have only ever seen one play but I have been meaning to go see more. Honest!

put on a show mate. someone will come and see it. and yeah things have been done before but if you can try to take a concept down an interesting route then go for it, only people who might complain are critics and they can fuck thenselves

I'd like to see a movie made about a zombie apocalypse, but instead put it through one of the zombies points of view.

You'd be surprised by some theater stuff. I just recently saw a musical centered around Mute Actors [Pippin], there are so many things out there that haven't been done yet.
I'm a theater fan through and through[I watch and I participate] and know new plays are coming out every day and becoming hits.
I personally would also like to see a play about zombies, humorous of course...

I enjoy theater and there is totally a crowd for it. Sure theater doesn't have amazing special effects, or badarse action scenes but you can get much more emotion because you are right there.

Welcome, enjoy our complimentary flame wars.

But theatre does have a purpose in this world, it shows people with real acting talent who memorize their lines and work hard. It may no longer be a necessary form of entertainment, but then again, books still exist for an odd reason, too...

well unfortunately it's been proven that there are really only about dramatic 7 story plotlines conceivable. there are variations of them, but it was narrowed down to about 7. so yes, it has all been done before. just sit back and enjoy it

"The Theatre, the theatre. What's happened to the theatre?" ~Danny Kay in White Christmas

I'm always in the pit. Curses being one of the few people in the city who can play the Kontrabass well.

Movie would probably be better recieved, no matter the content. I mean it's just so much more accesable to have it on DVD/Vidoe/download and i think it would be more popular as well

Entertainment is to make us smile, to laugh, to cry, to mourn, or convince or to make contemplate, and if nothing else, to expostulate the collective effort of many people's talents.

The theatre is such an amazing form of entertainment. It shows really good actors, who memorize all their lines instead of being fed lines between cuts. It's so much more effective than movies because the audience is there, in front of the stage. In The Diary of Anna Frank, for instance, before every act Anna goes to the front of the stage and talks directly to the entire audience. You can't break the fourth wall like that with a movie.

I like that, I agree with you.
