I liked Them Crooked Vultures for a little good music to run to and kind of just let it be. Its a fun album no doubt but I honestly can't stand some of the longer songs and Interlude With Ludes is one of the worst songs I've ever heard in my life.

On a side note though I do enjoy the Dead Weather who consist of Alison Mosshart(The Kills/Discount),Jack White (The White Stripes/The Raconteurs), Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs/Blanche/Greenhornes),and Dean Fertita (Queens Of The Stone Age). But maybe thats just my Jack White fanboyism showing but Horehound is a damn fine album. Though most don't consider them a supergroup.

So all in all TCV=Mediocre but the Dead Weather=great IMO of course.

The Theory: Them Crooked Vultures demonstrate that an entity is not necesarily the value of the sum of it's parts.

The Argument: The term 'Supergroup' is well deserved considering who is in this band (Josh Homme [Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss], Dave Grohl [Nirvana, Foo Fighters] and John Paul Jones [Led Zepplin]. Based on these names the asumption was that it would be one of the greatest bands of all time. However, the music that has come out is almost identical to Homme's other bands.
Shh! Oh too late, you killed the illusion...

I personally loved the album and, yes, while half the riffs may be lifted from much of QOTSA's work or inversions of several QOTSA/Desert Sessions riffs it was still enjoyable. It turned out pretty well considering the fact that most of the time so-called 'Supergroups' simply do not work. In this case there was even more to live up to given the reputations of the musicians involved. While it'll likely never touch Led Zep's or Queens' finest work it's a pretty damn good effort.

EDIT: On the topic of supergroups just thought I'd remind people that QOTSA was and is a supergroup in itself with a rotating line-up and it's one that has lasted, therefore making it the best band in the entire world, 'nuff said.

There songs are all almost good, but they just fall short, coming out sounding cheesy and not all together. Better off just listening to Queens of the Stone Age, Led Zeppelin and Foo Fighters. They are all good.

Maybe too much of a good thing is bad.
