Okay, so my family has been sitting in our living room watching that miss america pagent...

And I have nothing to say but facepalm...

I litterally cannot comprehend popular attraction in our society anymore.
So, I'm going to nitpick at a few things in this "Pagent", and I'm going to ask you, my fellow escapist brethren, (Down with the Thalmor?) what do you think of things like this, popular attraction, and just things like this "pagent" in general.

Alright, so a few things I've noticed- a good 75% of the contestents are blonde. WTF? I have no clue why blonde haired girls are reviered more attractive than natural hair color girls. Why are blondes viewed higher than other hair color? What's the big deal with this akward shade of yellow? I can understand it from a perspective of it being a recesive gene, but when so many girls go out on a limb to change their hair color to it, it looses it's rarity, it's flare. Honestly, I don't really care about hair color, but my question is why is it that so many people do.

Next up: Height. This bafles me more than hair color. What's the purpose of being tall? I'm 6'2, and height has stopped mattering to me ever sense I became tall enough to ride ALL THE ROLLER COASTERS! And now, it acts more of a curse than a "Blessing". Everyone and their mother asks me why I don't play sports, or do this with my height, or do that. I'm a skinny, scrawny weakling, is part of it. The other is I can't find fun in competitive sports, I like to do more extravagent things with my time, like rescue hostages, commet genocide on the race of dragons that wants to enslave humanity, ect, ect. but I'm getting off topic. I simple don't understand why tall people are looked so highly upon. It's no big deal, and if you look arround, almost every girl wears high heals to feel tall. Why go through what looks to be a painful expereance just to seem taller? Why mask yourself behind anything? It doesn't make sense! Who said that being tall gave you a better chance at being attractive, because for me, I don't give a shit about height.

And now to the one point where I do give a shit: Weight and body: This... This...
I simply don't get this.
All of these girls were muscualar. I mean they had fucking six packs. Where is the attraction in that? WHERE? I'd prefer an overweight girl over that. And don't get me started on model anerexia. Seeing as how things like this represent popular attraction, I just want to know where that comes from!

So, others, what are your thoughts on stuff like this, I genuanly want to know if I'm just insaine.

Just general curiosity, what gender are you?

Regardless of the answer though, you are very much sane, I would say. The people that idolize this kind of insanity are, well, insane, to a certain degree. I would myself not consider me completely sane but this shallow 'beauty' generalization and making it a competition is beyond me. I don't really pay attention to it, or any other (to me) socially awkward phenomena. Basically this is one of the things I wonder if aliens would visit us and see, would think that we are totally unworthy of existing and use Earth as a breeding ground.*

*I would like to apologize in advance for any spelling or grammatical errors, for I am slightly drunk and do not have a spellchecker in my current browser. And english is not my primary language.

Honestly it's just cultural upbringing combined with pseudo psychology. Things like symmetry are things that despite "beauty eye of beholder whatever" have been proven to be extremely popular in attraction. The same is probably true for height and hair colour. Just ridiculous stuff that people are to sheltered to question.

I must say thank you for voicing this. The height thing in particular annoy me no end, mainly because I am shorter than a lot of guys around and therefore get overlooked by any girl vaguely taller than me.

The main problem is a vocal minority in my opinion. You get some people who have these traits being loud about how pretty they are and this then puts the idea into people's heads that there must be some reason for this. They then copy these traits as much as they can and prance around feeling that they are now pretty.

Well that's ranty enough and may be an answer to the question.

Thinking of that show "Toddlers and Tiaras"? I was in the room while my sister watched it once, and my mind would not stop boggling at how horrible all those people were.

Blondes, meh. Always been partial to redheads and brunettes myself...

Any back on topic you're mostly sane. Which honestly, is kind of boring. As for the face palm go watch Gurren Laggan, millions upon millions of palms ready to fly into the space ships made of faces.

I find the skinny, tall "Beautiful" Blonde to be rather sickening really.

I prefer my girls average height, bootylicious and pretty faced. I honestly couldn't care less about their hair colour. I like stroking it, not staring at it.

Women in these pageants are heavily influenced by the media (a pageant after all is often done to be shown on tv) and since it's currently considered 'beautiful' to be tall and blonde and skinny that is how they force themselves to be.
I totally understand where you're coming from, the media view of beauty has always been skewed and negatively affects so many people.
As for women with six packs, what's your problem with that? If you're saying you don't think women should have muscles like that then surely you're doing what the pageants are doing, judging people by their appearances and dictating how they should look?
But then I am a tiiny bit of a feminist, so I apologise if I too am judging you :L

Cosmopolitan magazine I think is where all those twisted warped ideas of beauty come from.

As someone who is attracted to the kind of individual you just described, I feel that I can at least give reasons behind why I like such women.

Blonde- This may be because all the women I have met my age who were my intellectual equals have been blonde. It is probably because society emphasizes it so much. Why they do that would take a professor to explain.

Height- I like the way a woman's back and belly look. Long legs are common with others, though I don't care too much about that.

Fitness- I have a whole host of explanations for why I like this one, it ties in with my previous admiration of flat stomachs and is also due to my admiration of athletics and dieters.

Edit- I am thoroughly creeped out by anorexics.

Blondes - I'm not sure, being blonde just seems to be the in thing at the moment.

Height and high heels - Tall women mean long legs. Wearing high heels emphasises those legs, making them more appealing (or so I've been told anyway). Hate to think what it does to their feet though.

Six packs on women - meh, I'd rather they were fit and athletic rather than anorexic. At least they're healthy and not slowing killing themselves through starvation.

What do I think of pagents in general? It's a stupid popularity contest which just enhances what society today calls 'beauty'. To me, that just isn't beautiful. It's shallow, unhealthy and puts a huge amount of unnessicary pressure on people. I just tend to ignore pagents. Not watching TV helps with that.

In Soviet Russia, you no win pagent, pagent win you!

OT: Don't think we have pagents in Ireland, and if we did, nobody would be interested.
You are right we have no pagents at all.

Anyway I find them pretty stupid and blond is my least favourite hair colour, but I don't really care that much about hair colour.

There's nothing wrong with athletic women. It's just your personal taste.
