In BioShock 2 multiplayer, the housewife says "There is rest for the wicked" I say this is a reference to "There ain't no rest for the wicked" from Borderlands. My friend says this is wrong and I am just being stupid. Who's right?

...you realize that saying predates Borderlands by a long damn time, right?
And I'd doubt that it's referencing anything but that quote.
Which is an awesome one.
I love throwing it out at random times in conversations.

I must agree with the general consensus that both that saying AND Cage the Elephant's song predated Borderlands' release. It's a neat song and all, but the fact that people have drawn the "The game made the song for it" conclusion is quite irritating. Combined with the "The song made the saying" conclusion which is also incorrect...

No rest for the wicked is an old old old phrase. I mean biblical old. Afraid your friend is in the right on this one.

'There is no rest for the wicked' is a common saying, it didn't originate in borderlands.

Have no fear.... for I bring you GOOGLE!!!

Every cool phrase that is used in modern metal or rock seems to be from the bible.

I agree with, well, everyone on this site. You are a fool if you think Cage The Elephant thought of "There isn't no rest for the wicked".

While the saying did not originate from the game, I imagine that some of the developers have played Borderlands and have heard that song. While that doesn't mean that the BioShock 2 phrase is a reference to Borderlands, it could qualify Borderlands as an inspiration.

I'd be willing to bet they threw it in there as an homage to Borderlands regardless of the origin....which is biblical. 2k games is the publisher for both games after all.

I highly doubt this one, too. Religion based dialog isn't too rare in Bioshock.
