There should be a Slasher Movie-type game where you play the killer.

This idea came to me (along with a subsequent orgasm) just now when I saw a trailer for the new Friday The 13th remake. It looks like it's going to be totally tits.

But anyway, I was always a fan of Manhunt and that boat level in Splinter Cell: Double Agent where you had to sneak around kill people like a ninja. Slowly depopulating the ship and hiding the bodies while the rest of the people on the ship were none the wiser was alot of fun, at least to me.

I think the game could be worked to be some balance of stealth-action and maybe horror. Oh, and it would have to be very self-aware and have a sense of humor. The only problem I could think of was in the typical cliche' slasher flick you'd just be killing young people who are too busy smoking weed and having sex to care, not exactly challenging.

So what do you think of the concept?

If it followed the classic slasher movie, you'd walk around murdering innocent people with no one shooting at you, you would just chase them around the house and then kill them. I'd get bored after ten minutes.

This game plan will go into the trashcan, along with "AMERICAN TERRORIST: SOFT-TARGET MAYHEM"

Maybe if there was some kind of dramatic camera angles and movie-esque pacing in the kills, it'd spice it up a bit. Like, stalking your victims and watching them panic, presumably after seeing their attempts to kill you fail, since no good horror movie is complete without the antagonist being completely unkillable.

This sounds like Manhunt all over again except with no challenge whatsoever. Honestly I enjoyed playing Manhunt 1 and 2, great games.

well, the developers obviously wouldnt go by the textbook definition of a classic horror movie. There would have to be tweaks in order to make it a fun and balanced video game.

I personally like the concept, but it would be pretty difficult to make a game that would work out fine.

I think this game would be really boring and irritating.

I honestly don't see the attraction at running around cutting people up, If it's comical like in a GTA:SA way, maybe. But It just reeks of prentiousness, and it shits me something awful when I see those guys after they see saw or whatever talking about how "That chick got F****g owned! See her T*ts get cut off like F*****g ****, Total gorefest man!"

Actually I see the attraction now, just make sure the characters you can cut up are slasher buffs.

Because stabbing a Nazi with a bayonet or running someone over with a car certainly doesn't.

Plenty of games already have the capacity for it, I don't think there's really a need for a full game devoted to it, I reckon it'd get repetitive very quickly. I think I'm happy with the odd level in a game.

Try the metal gear solid or Thief series if you like stealth... I'd play a game like this but only because I'm scary. I probably wouldn't have any patience for the stealth mechanic though XD.

War games never outright say, "Ohh! Lets go kill people!" Its goes for the more realistic idea of what war really is.
And Grand Theft Auto pushes it for me, personally, but its modeled after a lifestyle, albeit a violent one. It doesn't outright say, "Go maim people!" it tells you to try and advance your place in society through any means necessary.

This tells people to kill, to take pleasure in the torture and murder of people.
Hell, even Splatterhouse and Mortal Kombat, though centering around violence, don't downright tell you to graphically kill innocents.
And things like Fable where they do give you the option of being ruthlessly violent aren't as just plain cruel as what the OP is describing...

I dunno... Call me impressionable, but I get a far stronger emotional reaction from this than any other game with evil protagonists...

I'm not saying that it should not be made. I would prefer that it did not exist, but I wouldn't mind it too much if it got an AO rating.

This sounds like... Dun dundada duu daaaa! Assassin's Creed! Which got old really fast.
...How is that like AC at all?

It does sound like Tranquility Lane from Fallout 3 though, where you become the Pint-Sized Slasher.

I get the feeling that Manhunt [http://www.mobygames.com/game/xbox/manhunt] was based on the same premise. They moved away from the sex because there was no chance it'd get stocked in most American stores. Funny enough, it'd be the other way around (more sex, less violence) if they were shooting for a European market.

Or play a movie monster that escaped for the lab, make your powers, design it with sub-powers and pick mutations of your powers on the game. Would be sand-box with challeneges, First Person Stealth, some stragegy elements on scare which would weaken your opponents reasonably.

Eat people to sustain yourself, etc.
Could be fun.

Fully customizable monster would be needed though.
