How will people know about the game?

How will they try and work out financial issues prior to getting the game?

Your rant is extremely poor. Hype isn't always a bad thing.

Ermm.... so you're saying companies should only advertise finished products, considering that games go gold almost the momento they're considered finished?
That's like having a party, but only inviting people once it already starts.

Your simile is, quite frankly, epic, good sir.

You deserve this:

Lots of biscuits cookies! [sub]I forget I can't be openly British when giving out these.[/sub]

I literally just had a mouthgasm.

OT: Ads, fine.

Devs talking about stuff that won't ever make it into the game.. that's annoying, but it is a price of publicity.

I'd rather know about the games coming.

If it was "nuff said" then why did you feel the need to go on?

What was the last game you bought that you enjoyed? I'll bet you an invisible donut that you found out about it from advertising. Even if it was viral advertising by word of mouth, that's advertising before the game.

How about instead you don't listen to hype. You get the same information as everyone else who doesn't work for a gaming publication, so you can look at the screenshots, read the interviews, find out the tech specs and make up your own mind, rather than whingeing because game x didn't actually herald the second coming of Jebus like the adds said it would.

well. maybe there should be channels devoted to videogames that show nothing but gameplay, devs have to use this as ads instead using the rediculous overhype

a bit nazi-ish but game bashing pisses me off SO MUCH...

the blue version rome.ros forum was riddled with similiar steam-blow-offs and nonsensical GRRR situations (by me)

the words in red was my thought process of posting this...
that said, this could have been MUCH worse...

my point was this: I WAS BEING A DUMBTURD. THATS WORSE THAN A DUMBASS
basically i play a game and its best game ever or some shit and and everyone hates it. half the games ive played would be complaint-free w/o hype

and as i said, this breaks mah heart

p.s. i have never listened to ads. ever. i go to the store and buy random good-looking game. the end.

(well... okay portal, but oh well.)

Well, then you don't get investors interested, and you don't get pre-orders or previews in magazines. So your game doesn't sell. Soooo...probably not the best marketing decision in the world.

You just need to train yourself to not get affected by hype.

set the bar so low you can't be disappointed, eh..?
hype for the future gives many people, sometimes even myself, something to look forward to, which is great.
hell, mercs2 i was pumped for since rumour stage, and was royally diappointed, so now i just look at them as cool, hold final judgment until release.
fools gonna be fools, deal with the hype.

This rant is kind of a fail. How would anyone find out about the game? Just don't buy into hype and you won't be disappointed.

Ads are fine, what I don't like it when people take things to extremes.
Halo 3 is the best game ever!!!!
or
Halo 3 is the worst shit ever!!!!

That literally takes the enjoyment out of some games for me.

The only ad that needs to go is the ad at the beginning of a game about the game you are about to play. Don't show me all the best scenes please.

I'll pretend you said "biscuits". Having learned English at school, I quite fancy British English over American :)

I'm sorry, what?

Usually I know what people are saying but I can't make heads or tails of your grammer.

I used to follow hyped up games incessantly. Checking every screen shot or video and reading every tidbit of info. It almost always resulted in being dissapointed or at least thinking the game was good - but could have been better. This happens with movies too, if I watched all 4 trailers and read a review it's the same thing. So these days I'll read a little preview to get an idea, then maybe read some spoiler-free reviews to see if it has the content I want, and then just go straight to purchase if it's looking good. The less I know, the better.

A good recent example is Heavy Rain. I first read a review for it a while back basically outlining how this game will be different, then just ignored all the hype and everything till it came out. Read the review, saw it had a good outcome and sounded fun. So, when I played it, I was so ignorant as to what was going to happen that it was just a great and amazing experience.

I think adds are good, I think reading a spoiler free review and maybe seeing a few screen shots are good, but the less I know the happier I am.

...I saw the article on God of War sex scene, and I have to say, I really, really wish I was ignorant of that. Think how much better (funny) it would have been to just happen across that while playing the game? So yea, I try to avoid too much information.
