You see, I always see football as a clashing of armored warriors (who get paid too much) for glorious victory. How is that anything BUT Metal?!

Not saying you should sign the petition, just trying to put the image in your minds of GWAR performing instead of Bruno "Asspole" Mars. Why do they pick those pop douchebags anyways? I understand they're "popular" and whatever, but most of football's audience is straight white males, and most of those pop star's audience is pre-pubescent girls. So I always thought "Are the people making decisions complete shut-ins?" (They probably are.)

But in any case, we all know Bruno "Squeaky-Britches" Mars is definitely locked in as he's probably already been paid, but you have to admit, it would be smart to have a more rock/metal band perform since it would resonate more with the core audience, and possibly even draw in a new audience, because let's face it, you'd be banging your head against a brick wall trying to get most 12 year old girls to squeal over watching the superbowl.

So, how would you feel about something like this actually getting through? Or do you have something even more ridiculous in mind that still has some sort of logic to it if you tried to justify why it would work?

Here i thought most people that watched football were middle - high class dads that like to from a long week unwind by watching the game with his family and neighbors after church and the family bbq , while his lovely blond blue eyed wife made apple pie for dessert and his son was playing outside with the dog. And those are the same people that think metal music comes from the devil .

I haven't been outside since 1965

OT: Honestly i don't care because i don't watch football . But you have to remember , football is a highly mediatised event . The same media that pictures metal and rap music as a bad influence for kids . So having it at one of the biggest sport events isn't a good idea for the image of football . Plus the people that are actually going to the events are different than those that watch it. It's a different demographic altogether . Do you know how expensive superbowl tickets are?

After the Janet Jackson and Timberlake stunt at the 2000 Super Bowl they have tried very hard to be extremely family friendly during the halftime show. I don't think half dressed dudes in monster masks and armor with a stage prop called the ****** maggot is gonna fly. Personally i would think it would be funny to feed all the commentators to the ****** maggot especially Madden.

I would love to see them preform at the Super bowl! However, it is never going to happen, last concert of their's I went to the crowd was sprayed down in fake blood shooting out a 5 foot long dildo strapped on to the lead singers crotch....
so yea... Bruno Mars it is....

O.T. Can't wait to see them in concert in my home city in October, won't make the mistake of wearing good clothes to their concert this time.

The Superbowl isn't really for Football fans though. Sure, football fans watch it, as it is a pretty important game and everything, but they'll do so regardless of who is preforming at half-time. Rather, the Superbowl is also catering to the other group of people, the ones who watch because of the commercials and who want to see their favorite pop star doing a little song and dance.

Eh, I see the halftime show as for the non-football fans who are "forced" to watch the superbowl. The football fans already have something to look forward to, the game. Superbowl parties are common, and people participate in them even if they despise football.

EDIT: son of a.....ninjaed by a 6 minutes

Well, unfortunately, they'll get some singer/group that will appeal to the demographics that most likely won't watch the Superbowl, and I doubt GWAR fits the bill.

You know, I get it from a business perspective, but it is kind of BS to us Football fans whom follow the teams zealously won't be rewarded with at least a decent halftime show. So, bring on Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber or some other pop idol we won't like.

What the hell did Bruno Mars do to you OP? I like Bruno Mars.

I must say though, GWAR is an amazing live act, I've seen them twice and it was awesome. The petition should also include another petition to decide who gets fed to the worm. I vote for Tom Brady.

As a decent GWAR fan and a huge Oderus fan, I have to say if they were allowed to do their thing, the liquid, the props, Brockie's comedy, everything...it could be the best halftime show ever.

As we live in reality though, I'd never want them to do this as all the broadcasting companies along with the NFL would ensure they play a super tame, watered down set and behave like normal people.
So you know, not a GWAR show at all. :p

I always thought that half time shows were there so that the viewers can go to the toilet.

You'll never see heavy metal at the half-time show. Maybe, maybe, maybe Metallica if they shelled enough bucks and we lived in an alternate reality when Oakland would be there.

Yeah, that's a whole lot of immature hate in one post. Now I don't like him, in fact I have only heard a few songs and if I had my way I would never hear them again, even my dad who likes the genre doesn't like his music. I don't hate him though nor do I feel the need to insult him. He creates music that I don't like. OK, I will listen to The Killing Tree and forget about him. I'm tired of this hatred of artists we don't like.

OT: I doubt I will be able to watch the Superbowl, but it would make for an interesting halftime show.

It will never happen. First off Gwar is a specific niche of metal which in its own right is a niche music. They arent even "mainstream" for their own genre. So the halftime planners would never consider a group with so little name recognition (across the entire population, not just those who dig metal). On the other side, I sincerely doubt Gwar would even do it if it were offered. Its a gig that would be entirely too "corporate" and commercial. There would be all manner of people trying to "adjust" the act to make it more tv tolerable and I dont see Gwar putting up with anyone trying to alter what they do.

If Gwar was to do it, it would be for no other reason than a huge shock and awe fakeout where they pretend to play ball for the tv censors and then when they go on, go absolutely apeshit in a manner that makes even their own regular live shows look tame.

Back on the other side of that coin, I just dont see anyone who is in control of planning and producing a superbowl halftime show being so oblivious and ignorant to the hired talent as to NOT expect that type of fakeout coming from Gwar.

The "ONLY" way I would see something like Gwar doing the halftime show, it would have to be after Gwar managed to make nationwide headlines that got weeks and months worth of press for what ever reason. Something massive that would at least give them enough nationwide notoriety that the planners are willing to risk their antics in order to try and cash in on the temporary fad or hype the band created. Even then, if they are serious about it, they will control every element of the event and likely even go so far as to make them an ancillary part of the show rather than outright performance.

Its a cute and novel idea in drunk/high/bored talk between friends but the practicallity makes it so improbable it might as well be impossible.

Your making them sound more like this, but with the exception of the paying too much bit.

No in all seriousness, that sounds all well and good but the problem with anything like that is that Football has a wide audience demographic and GWAR may be fantastic to a small part of the audience, the rest will likely be unimpressed, best just to find something that will satisfy the largest proportion and well Bruno Mars isn't terrible, not my cup of tea, but there again i'm not a fan of the genre so i can't really comment.

GWAR would be brilliant, I'd love to see what the reaction would be for a band like that from that sort of audience. I mean, I saw Rammstein at Download this year, and the lead singer pretended (with a very large prosthetic penis cannon) to sodomize the keyboardist, then proceeded to get an even larger penis cannon and spray foam over the audience. Just imagine people unprepared for that kind of show! Priceless, priceless.

I think Watain might be an even better choice- Middle America would definitely love being drenched in pig's blood by a bunch of Satanists.

What? Bruno Mars is freaking great. Have you not HEARD "Locked Out of Heaven" or "Treasure"? The dude knows how to write and belt out a great song. Or have you not actually listened to him, because he's pop and all pop is icky?

Urgh.

Anyways, no. Metalheads keep forgetting that metal is niche, and you don't bring the niche stuff to the most watched stage in television. You're going to annoy a whole lot of people, and it'll make GWAR look bad. I'll give metal some credit and compare it to putting the Philharmonic on the halftime-show stage for a slower piece. Can you imagine how annoyed and bored the audience would be overall? Now, change it to "annoyed and offended", and that's the metal version.

I understand that you want to live in a world that has metal strewn all over the place, and I would love to live in a world where ambient/IDM were the most common and accepted genres, but we can't all have what we want.
