Also: The only thing that annoys me (and boy, it sure annoys me) is the HYPERLINKED BACKGROUND. I subconsciously highlight text as I read it, and I click the background equally subconsciously to un-highlight. I also middle-click the background to induce a mouse directed pan. When doing either sends me to an unrelated, entirely pointless, ad-induced page at an infuriatingly regular interval, I start to get a little flustered.

Thanks for mentioning that. I usually use the background as a safe place to click to gain focus. It's a common UI convention to have safe spots within a window so the use can click to gain focus, or as you do reset marked text. The background is an obvious candidate for that, but not if it links somewhere else.

The Escapist needs money one way or the other. With the ways being from advertisements or people joining the Publisher's Club.

But a GOOD company doesn't care about the money.

Dafuq is the point of starting a business when you're not going to get money out of it?

Heres a protip for some of you, if you post a reply to someone who is being downright silly and they do not reply back, its generally because they were TROLLING for attention.

On topic however I use pub club and I don't have to worry about adds, it is true the site does need money to run, however some of the adds are a little sketchy at best. I don't mid it though at least its not like pop up forced audio in the middle of a video like some sites lol.

I just came back to post this. I'd say about 50% of what I saw when I came on the site today was actual site, the rest obscured by ads. (Right now, there are three surrounding this post box - the background, one below, and a captcha ad)
Something tells me that the Escapist is in huge problems with money (this totally doesn't relate to an earlier controversy on this site, nope, not at all). I seriously wish they could find a more subtle way to deal with it, though.
