Yes, what a convenient coincidence. So it has nothing at all to do with the fact that people spending more time on the forums (through being hypnotised by his avatar) means there would be more stuff for him to moderate. In fact, that's probably how he got the position - have the tetris avatar for a while, thus making the forums harder and harder to moderate, until the staff caves in and takes on more people (one of which is him). Afterwards, he just puts on a plainer avatar thus drastically reducing the infractions, not needing to moderate (well, almost not needing) and now he has both mod powers and lots of free time.
I'm also positive he was behind 9/11 and the fake landing on the moon. I have proof!

Yeah, I changed my avatar because my old one looked a bit too...
Well, good luck to 'em. With great-ish power comes great-ish responsibility.
Is it bad that I really want to become a mod? Just see how it is. I know the staff hate people wanting to become a mod. But still, I know I'll never get it because I really did fuck up with the whole Daystar Clarion thing last year. I went too far.

Topaz was placed over Off Topic, EscapeGoat was put in charge of Gaming Discussion, and I was put in charge of Religion and Politics. [small]Please don't pity me...there is power here in being one of the Escapist's Dark Lords.[/small]
The three of us are limited in our powers to acting within our respective forums (for now) but anyone is welcome[footnote]Nay! Commanded! [/footnote] to PM us with any questions, problems, or your bank account information.

OT: You do a good job mods. You're the least inconsistent group of mods I've ever seen, and you all do your job really well.
I still have a sneaking feeling the mods are a cult using the Escapist as a front to bring Cthulu from the deep and rule the world in a thousand years of pain and suffering though, but that's just a feeling. Nothing'll come from it.
Nice try, but we Mods are all well learned in the Evil Overlord's Handbook [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EvilOverlordListCellblockA] which includes--and I quote:
Rule 109: I will see to it that plucky young lads/lasses in strange clothes and with the accent of an outlander shall REGULARLY climb some monument in the main square of my capital and denounce me, claim to know the secret of my power, rally the masses to rebellion, etc. That way, the citizens will be jaded in case the real thing ever comes along.
Dude! Not here! I said we'd talk about this at a better time.

OT: Thanks for the nice thread, guys. I'm hoping this means the negative vibes around here are calming down a little bit. I missed the good ol' silly Off Topic.
The mods are fine people, they get the unfair amount of blame for unpopular decisions, and while you could say they are not perfect the forums here would be worse off without these guys. It's nice that our mods are involved in the community also and not aloof, banning from on high.
So to our fine mods I say, keep up the fine work.
[small]There I said what you told me to say, please release my family. [/small]
OT- The mods are awesome people and they deserve all the love and affection they get. I sure as hell can't do what they do, as volunteers! Okay, maybe after practice, but not as well as all of those guys. It helps that all of them are awesome people in general. ;-)
Seriously though, I made that avy myself, and built quite a bit of reputation on it. I'd quite like to keep it in reserve on the off-chance that I might want to use it again sometime.
A good majority of them have been here a long time through many different... generations of the Escapist, and have really never been inconsistent with the rules. Every time a new rule was introduced (which isn't that often), they try to make it pretty widely known.
Seriously guys. If you have a problem with the mods, you're doing something wrong.
Not really sure I understand where the bitching is coming from other than bitching to be bitching (art for it's own sake)... as far as my own personal experiences with posting on the forums I got hit once for low post content... but other than that, I have found the moderation to be reasonable... "fair but partial" comes to mind.
I've been here for a really long time and I've seen a lot of mods come and go. The Escapist has never been big on picking bad folks for the job and considering I've known a lot of every set from their pre-mod days... yeah... they tend to pick good people who just want to make the site a better place.
I think the mods are great. Which is why I have always done my diligent duty to inform others of the CoC, reported breaches of the rules, warned others about rules when they run the risk of breaking them, checked every day to see if there are new risk areas, logged on every day and posted that I wanted to be a mod. But they gave it to captain cerberus instead.
Congratulations TopazFusion. May your reign last days, and your death years.
Zantos has nothing but the best of wishes for TopazFusion and the greatest respect for the mods. Zantos would send them complementary bottles of his pilsner, but due to the unfeasibility of such an act he is forced to drink them himself. Zantos thinks it's sharp taste is due to the addition of 100g brown sugar and a teaspoon of brewing yeast. Zantos encourages others to try it, it ends up enhncing the flavour and boosting the strength to around 5 and 3/4%. Zantos has forgot any original point he was making.
