I know there's a wide range of ages and cultures here, so I'm curious to know: what are some things you think are past their "good old days?"

For me, it's music. In high school, we had alternative rock like Hootie and the Blowfish(that's Darius Rucker now for you country fans), Blues Traveler, etc. Around that same time I discovered 30s and 40s music like Ella Fitzgerald, George Gershwin, and Cole Porter. None of it was auto-tuned and it seemed like it was more about the music and the attitude than money.

Your turn!

inb4 Video games.

Back then, you would stay up until 3 in the morning trying to beat Contra without the code. Now, teenagers stay up until 3 being annoying over their headsets playing Call of Duty.

They don't make most things like they used to and, for the most part, that's a good thing. As for what's gone terribly downhill over the years, I can't help but feel that Dutch literature (yes, I'm being unusually specific, but for a good reason) has taken a nosedive into what now is essentially glorified porn-scripts.

Ahh the music...

I miss the 90's, even though I only spent 5 years there.

Seriously though, name one really really really really really good singer or band which wasn't around then.

...can you name even one thing Doctor Freeman...?

...I thought not...

For me it is bicycles. There are excellent bikes available, they just cost several thousand, so most people ride cheap Chinese made crap bikes. I repair bikes on the side for money, so when I go from fixing a classic 10-speed to a modern super-cycle it is hilarious.
I also find people buy the wrong kind of bike. I have seen so many with huge heavy for no reason tri-suspension mountain bikes (climbers) who will never use them off of pavement. So instead of getting a 1" tire hybrid or road bike they haul around a 20kg monstrosity.

I see your old timey music and raise you one Sigur Ros

As for the topic at hand, probably american animation, name any modern tv show and it is a shallow comparison to the first 8 seasons of The Simpsons. You also had Dexters Lab, Ed, Edd and Eddy, Rugrats, Animaniacs and more which i know im forgetting.

Chocolate,, the size of the blocks and the general texture. (cutting it with palm oil and reducing the amount of coco in it may make it cheaper to produce... but if I wanted to eat tile gout I would go to a hardware store)

Not too long ago I would have agreed with you. Then I played God of War 3. Playing what may now be my favourite game of all time made me think of all the other amazing games have been made just in the past few years.

OT: Music. I haven't been around all that long, but there was certainly no Justin Bieber or Jonas Brothers when I was downloading music.

They don't make social interactions like they used to. Used to be people would get a group of their friends, go out to a bar or a coffee house, and sit there while talking about various conversations. Now we go to threads on websites, and do the exact same thing from the comfort of our own computer.

...Oops

Cars. I know this one's going to be unpopular, because new cars are comfortable and generally hassle-free... until they break... and then you just trade it in on a new one.
Thing is, with older cars like I own, I can replace the head gasket, or the clutch disc, or even rebuild the carburetor with a pretty small set of tools and a couple of ramps. They'll still be on the road when they pass their 600,000 mile mark, if I'm anything like my dad.
New cars are simply built with too many electronics, and far too many fragile integral parts to last that long... and sadly, with the exception of hybrids (which come with a pretty massive environmental problem attached... look up lithium-ion battery disposal), new cars really don't have better fuel economy than older cars. I have two small carbureted cars with minimal electronics (to the point of a manual choke in one case) that get 40 and 50 miles to the gallon, respectively (and one cargo van with a V8 that gets 20 to the gallon, but that's not a daily driver)...
Aside from comfort, I really can't find anything to recommend new cars... and ease of use counts as a point against them as far as I'm concerned. Spoils new drivers to the point where they never learn to control their vehicles.

...err...

Pretty much everything on Nick back then; I remember Doug and Johnny Bravo.

They don't make Harry Potter films like they used to. Now it's all killings and camping out in the forest. I miss the old days of hexing Malfoy and then running away like girls.

I second that.

OT: Special effects. CGI is great and all, but the kind of stuff they did in the '80s - early 90's not only looked amazing, when it didn't work it was still entertaining as hell. Example 1: Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky.
