So David Sedmak responds to a call of officer down and gets fired. I know we are apparently all against cops here on this forum because of all the THIS COP SHOULD BE FIRED BECAUSE HE DID THIS but seriously this guy doesn't deserve to be fired at all. He didn't inform his superiors about where he was going and the university fires him because he threatened the safety of the students while helping officers who had been shot.

Private employers don't care about what is right and wrong, they care about their employees doing their jobs.

HE put the students in danger by abandoning his post, all he had to do is what any cop has to do and that is tell dispatch where you are going, he failed to do that and lost his job because of it. He messed up big and suffered for it

I can see both sides of this story clearly, but it's still a bit unfair.

Okay, lets say the students were in danger while he was away. Then he'd be at fault, but his actions are still justified because he was going to aid an officer who needed him.
Some sort of punishment could have been implemented instead of full-out firing him though...

Why would he think clearly when he's racing to save the lives of his comrades?
When would he be able to call his superiors, before or after the shoot-out with gang members and the rescue of his comrades? (exaggerating here)

The perp in this situation had already shot 2 cops. Was an active shooting situation. People in danger - this cop in question was specially trained in dealing with active shooting situations.

Fuck this college for firing them.

Sorry this hits close to home. I live near here.

I agree totally.

The bigwigs in this college need to be taken to town for this travesty.

Any cop should be able to think clearly in this situation and every cop when presented with this calls in to say that they are on the way he should have called into his superiors to report where he was going, that being said maybe firing him was harsh but if what you said (Why would he think clearly when he's racing to save the lives of his comrades?) is true then why would a disciplinary action stop him from not thinking clearly the next time this happens? If his not thinking clearly has the potential to endanger students in the future then he should lose his job.

This. They just try to keep everything simple, and if anything doesn't go their way, they do something about it. (Which is almost always something retarded.)

You do realize that colleges are not corporations right? They are "non-profit" private organizations

We have cops abusing their power, bullying members of the public and acting as government cronies, and now a good cop goes to help a fellow officer in an emergency and he's fired?

The hell?

He is trained to think clearly in stressful situations. If he can't do that he is in the wrong profession.

While I might not support his firing, he still didn't do part of his job which implicates him to some sort of punishment.

I'd rather see a temporary suspension and a class on proper procedure than firing though.

If a fellow human is in trouble and you can help, your first instinct isn't to tell people where your going. He did what anyone would do, he reacted on his instincts and tried to help
