[HEADING=1]They Walk Among Us: A Paranormal Investigation RP[/HEADING]

The world breathed a sigh of relief on December 21st, 2012 when - contrary to popular belief - the world DIDN'T end. The Mayans were wrong and the thirteenth Bak'tun started without issue. Instead, everyone got to enjoy a particularly normal holiday season while the world kept on spinning.

However, unbeknownst to most, it did change. At midnight on the 21st, things slipped into our mortal world; things not seen in the last thousand years. Some call them "Demons", others prefer "Extraplanar Entities" and yet others prefer the simpler term "Monsters". Whatever you call them, most agree that whatever they are, they're a threat.

Had humanity been caught unaware by the resurgence of monsters, the world really might have ended that cold December evening which makes it all the more fortuitous that humanity was prepared. The Mayan calendar was but one - admittedly popular - hint of what was to come. Nostradamus had likewise predicted their return when he said "The gods will make it appear to be humans. That they will be the authors of a great conflict: Sword and lance before heaven is observed as serene. so that on the left hand there will be great affliction." The many religions of the world had there own prophesies ready to be fulfilled. Scientists had been measuring strange fluctuations in sensitive measuring equipment during the weeks leading up to the 21st. Many had an idea of what was coming and took steps to ready themselves for the new age.

Now it's 2018. Since their return, a secret war has been fought in the shadows against the greatest threat the world has ever not seen.

[HEADING=2]The Factions[/HEADING]

Several groups independently formed to fight back the darkness. When the darkness finally reared its ugly maw, the organizations struck out; fighting for survival and forging alliances with their newly-discovered contemporaries and compatriots. So far, each group has remained separate for a number of reasons - primarily so that should a single group fall, the others can remain solvent. Different organizations have different overall goals, some of which are compatible with other organizations, some of which mutually exclusive. The organizations are as follows:

Of course, when dark things begin making war on humanity, some people are bound to notice. Few such people survive their encounter with the darkness, but those who do are left changed forever. Many have lost loved ones to the creatures and find that everyone they turn to denies the very existence of their tale. Most realize at some point there's a global conspiracy to keep stories of the monsters, demons, and whatever else hidden. The vast majority of those affected become disenfranchised "madmen" who stand on street corners screaming about the end of the world. A few however - perhaps out of duty, perhaps out of vengeance, perhaps something entirely different - decide to fight back. Sometimes they encounter groups of like-minded people to aid them in their quest, perhaps they go alone into the breech. Regardless, most of these people die during their second encounter with the darkness. This continues out until about their fifth encounter - when only .01% remain. At this point, they've become experts at hunting and tracking the beasts and rarely fall to the darkness easily.

Inevitably, if you survive in the shadows long enough, you come face-to-face with someone from the alliance. Such individuals sometimes join a specific organization to fight back, but most feel betrayed by the giant organizations (after all, where were they the first time?) and chose to remain independent. Still, mutual need to survive forces them to work together on some level. Usually, the relationship forms like an alliance between the larger groups. The big organizations can't be everywhere for, large as they are, they're spread over too much land to fight back against everything. Instead these individuals or small groups fill the niche market; killing the threats the big guy's can't see. The larger factions in turn provide substantial bounties to the individuals for dealing with the threats and give them access to the information networks of the big guys.

The Cabal has existed for thousands of years, dating back as far as ancient Egypt. Back then, the monsters still existed upon this world. With their retreat, humans were able to form complex civilizations which in turn allowed for organizations of soldiers tasked with fighting the remaining threats to form. Without the power of technology, the organizations who would one day become the Cabal embraced the tricks and tactics of the monsters themselves. They learned ancient magics by watching their enemy and learned to use their prey to forge weapons capable of fighting the darkness.

Today, the Cabal has become the foremost authority on all things arcane; with libraries of tricks with which to identify, eliminate, and use the monsters. They've been known to bind these monsters to their will, incorporate abominable monster parts into their weapons, armor, and bodies, and use ancient magics. The Cabal has an expressed interest in keeping the secrets of magic a secret and benefit from humans being generally unaware of the horrors that lurk in the night. They tend to keep other, younger organizations at arms reach for fear of betrayal (i.e. Witch Hunts) and view themselves as the authority on monsters. They eschew modern and super-modern technology in favor of their traditions. Since the resurgence however, they've opened their books of monster fighting techniques to the younger organizations for the sake of mutual survival and to gain access to the knowledge bases of the organizations.

Where there's a resource to exploit, there's a business opportunity. The Consortium is a coalition of hundreds of different industrial complexes, all working together for their mutual benefit. Pharmaceutical interests benefit greatly from the alien matter; using it in experiments which might cure more diseases that they know. Material companies find the bio-matter of the Extraplanars to have extraordinary strength and toughness or elasticity. Of course, the Military-Industrial complex can't find an end to all the military applications for Extraplanar material. Even Media companies have gotten involved; taking exclusive footage and details for when the Extraplanars eventually become public knowledge. Some of the Bio-matter has even shown properties not found in any other material found on earth. The secrets to faster, stronger, and more potent computers and perhaps even long-term space travel might be locked in the bodies of creatures no one wants around.

Most bio-matter samples are sent to one of two projects; the Foundation labs to see what uses the bio-matter might have or to R&D labs to see if the material can be replicated for large-scale production. The Consortium has a vested interest in maintaining the secrecy of the Extraplanar threat. After all, what does it matter if they find a material capable of FTL travel if it results in the collapse of the global economy. Also, the more their competition is in the dark the better it is for them. The Consortium takes advantage of the information kicked in by the older groups and provides precisely one benefit to the alliance: obscene amounts of money. Some companies have thrown in billions of dollars for the rights to choice bio-matter. This puts them at odds with some Cabal members who use material as spell components, but Extraplanar beasts tend to have enough bio-matter to make this concern a minor one.

Note: While referenced as a single group, most businesses act independently, using mercenary and PMC's. The Consortium is just a special group of business interests acting in concert.

The Foundation is a coalition of universities and independent researchers dedicated to understanding the Extraplanars. While they share the same goals as The Consortium, the emphasis is on the knowledge gained; not the profit earned. They wish to turn the horrors from beyond the world into a warm light for all humanity. Or so they say anyway. For the most part it's true, though more than a few of the field researchers are known for less-than ethical experimentation on still-living Extraplanars. Of course no one really comments on it; after all they're monsters trying to kill humanity and destroy all it holds dear. In the face of that, who cares what they do to the beasts? This has however resulted in more than one escaped "subject" in highly populated regions. The Foundation works closely with the Consortium; with the Foundation doing much of the research (in exchange for the eventual credit for any discoveries) while the Consortium claims ownership of all eventual profits (save the kickbacks to the researchers).

The Foundation benefits from the money and knowledge of the other organizations and in turn adds enormous technical expertise to the alliance. They are particularly well known for providing prototype technology for "field testing" against the monsters. These prototypes have had mixed results - sometime they vaporize monsters in seconds while others seem to make mosters even more deadly; often with the same piece of prototype tech. The Foundation would love to publish all of their research but between the threats of life-in-prison for doing so and the fear of being ridiculed by their peers, few papers have been published.

Note: Some universities act on their own, independent of The Foundation. Their methods are even more ethically questionable than The Foundation.

One of the older organizations, the Knights Templar are a branch of the Roman Catholic Church tasked with the destruction of Demons in all their many forms. They call upon the power of their god (or their faith as the non-believers will say) to destroy demons. Ancient rituals, holy artifacts, and powerful destructive spells are what the Knights Templar bring to the table. Whatever people's stance might be on the existence of a god or gods, no one can deny the Knights Templar are perhaps the most powerful weapon against the monsters. There is a great deal of tension between the Knights and the Cabal thanks to the centuries of conflict between their groups. While they both use what most people would call magic, Cabal magic embraces the dark power of the beasts while the Knights Templar use purification magic to destroy demons down to their last cells.

It's the tradition of the Knights Templar to remain in the darkness, hunting their prey wherever they might appear. They have little interest in revealing their existence to the world since it would only disrupt their flock and make them question God's power. The Knights Templar are an ancient order with large pools of resources and fighting strength, but are so few in number that they cannot fight the incoming tide of demons by themselves. They are a welcome part of the alliance due to their awesome power. The Knights Templar become more powerful as the destroy demons.

Note: This is the Roman Catholic organization. Each major world religion has their own order to combat the monsters.

The National Biological Warfare Defense Analysis Center was an organization formed by the United States to ensure their continued prosperity in the world in 2003. Technically a branch of the Department of Homeland Security, The National Biological Warfare Defense Analysis Center draws the best and brightest from all branches of the military and intelligence agencies to act as a multi-facited taskforce against the Extraplanar Entities. Their relative youth is one of the major hurdles the organization has to overcome. They're trained to fight human enemies - not creatures which defy description - and are all but blind to the centuries of knowledge gathered by the more experienced organizations. While they're nearly fighting blind, they make up the difference with technical and logistical support. They may not know the best ways to pierce an Extraplanar's shell, but they have rocket launchers, the ability to get just about anywhere in the world in 8 hours, and more funding than some small countries.

The National Biological Warfare Defense Analysis Center is concerned with protecting U.S. citizens and have few qualms with destroying entire villages to be rid of a single threat to the U.S. while ignoring larger threats on the other side of the world. The U.S. has an interest in keeping the monsters a secret to keep the world calm. Global chaos would make their mission all but impossible and they depend on the continued success of global capitalism to fund their operations. Not to mention, voters tend to prefer their normal lives to war in the streets. The National Biological Warfare Defense Analysis Center's strategy has been to contain or destroy Extraplanar beings as encountered. The National Biological Warfare Defense Analysis Center benefits from access to the knowledge bases of the other organizations and in turn kicks in their logistical know how and technical support. Even the Cabal admits being able to get to the monsters in short time periods is a huge help.

Note: The National Biological Warfare Defense Analysis Center is the U.S. Organization. Other developed countries have similar programs with more or less the same advantages.

Special Note: The National Biological Warfare Defense Analysis Center is a real agency. I in no way suggest this is what they actually do. In fact, I can't find what they really do anywhere.

The Turned are monsters who - for one reason or another - have joined the side of humanity. Some were infected by human magics, forcing them to the human way of thought. Others were affected by humans on an emotional level, making them join out of desire to protect. Yet others were tamed by human tricks into little more than pets. Either way, they have become allies. Turned have it perhaps the hardest; they threw away whatever their life was before to hunt and kill their brothers and sisters while standing beside creatures who would kill them without a second thought. They must spend most of their time away from humans unless they are able to take human form (and even then the other organizations tend to frown on this blending).

The Turned benefit from the alliance in only one way; so long as they behave, the alliance agrees not to harm or experiment on them. If you're turned and not known to the alliance, you're prey just like the rest of their ilk. Of course, these benefits come at a cost: they must fight. Fortuitously, these demons have proven proficient at the art of killing and become more powerful by consuming the flesh of their fallen siblings.

Where The National Biological Warfare Defense Analysis Center and its contemporaries are national efforts to protect themselves from the threat of the Extraplanars, the United Nations Security Counsel realizes that not all threats to the individual nations will appear in developed or opened-border nations. What happens when the world ending monstrosity takes refuge in Somalia? What about North Korea? Or Iran? What's to stop the Extraplanar from building up its strength in places beyond individual national reaches. What more, even if every nation had a The National Biological Warfare Defense Analysis Center, would the Democratic Republic of Congo's The National Biological Warfare Defense Analysis Center be as well maned and funded as a developed nations force? The obvious answer is no, so the obvious solution to the problem was U.N.I.T.E.D. - a global organization built to stop the threats wherever they appear and to whomever they threaten. Of course, the organization wasn't a perfect solution; it's shear size and diverse interests combined with many nations distrust of U.N. efforts hamper it's power a great deal; to the point where despite being larger than some national program, its less effective.

U.N.I.T.E.D. benefits from working with other organizations willing to share resources and information in that it allows them to focus on acting on information rather then hunting it down. In turn, U.N.I.T.E.D. provides easy lines of communication between the diverse groups and - perhaps more importantly - access. With so many nations as members they can get forces nearly anywhere - legally - without much fuss. Even isolationist nations like North Korea are willing to let in "U.N. inspectors" when they place enough pressure. U.N.I.T.E.D. is one of the few organizations against the maintenance of Extraplanar secrecy, but the security counsel and their allies are less-than willing to go public so they maintain the secrecy for the time being. U.N.I.T.E.D. focuses on the destruction or containment of monsters wherever they appear.

[HEADING=2]Arcana[/HEADING]
The magic of the Cabal and some mystically-adept individuals, Arcana uses the power of the monsters to their advantage. These can take three different forms, each with it's own advantages. Crossover isn't unheard of, but it is rare since it requires splitting focus between multiple fields and reducing your ability with each.

Spellcasting: By using rituals stolen from monsters and pieces of their flesh, bones, and blood, a human can channel energies from beyond the universe and turn them to the caster's will. Spellcasting is limited by the components on hand, the ambient mystical energy, and the casters own creativity. Knowing the properties of monster-material requires years of intensive learning, but most components have obvious uses. For instance, a dragon's blood has flame-magic properties and is used to create fire-based spells. At the same time, it has properties which could increase the users physical abilities (dragons are strong) or grant flight (dragons can fly) - less obvious uses. There are other even more obscure uses for materials.

Binding: This form of Arcana uses a special ritual to take command of a monster's thoughts and deeds, binding the monster to the will of the caster as a sort of familiar. The stronger the monster, the harder it is to bend their will. Some creatures are effectively immune to this power (anything above Type III or with special mental powers). These creatures lose all sense of sapience as a result, making more magical based familiars all but useless. Most binders start by capturing a mundane but powerful creature (such as a lion) which they use to capture a Type I. This continues on until they cannot control or capture the next highest Type. A Binder can only control one creature at a time: further creatures tax the Binder's mind to thoroughly.

Image owned by Paizo Publishing

Augmentation: The most questionable of techniques, Augmentation involves grafting monster flesh and bone to your own body and crafting weapons and armor from the rest. It allows the Augmenter the ability to use some of the creature's powers (all be it much reduced in power). Augmentation requires a powerful ritual and several hours to perform, but once complete the flesh becomes fully attuned to the user. Only physical creatures can be used for Augmentation and there are obvious size limitations. Body Augmentations grant you a creatures mystical properties (such as a dragon's fire breath), Weapon Augmentations allow the user to cut through monster flesh and bone more easily, and Armor Augmentations allow the user to defend against more potent attacks (i.e. a Giant can pull apart a tank, but opening a monster-suit can be almost impossible). Augmentation can only be used on simple items and the caster's body

[HEADING=2]Divinity[/HEADING]
Divinity magics allow the user to call on the mystical energies of the universe without material components, but it's uses are more limited. Unlike Arcana, crossover between fields of study is common since each group of magic is so limited. It can be used by Knights Templar, other religious orders, and some faithful individuals/small groups.

Image property of Wizards of the Coast

Purification: Purification is the bread and butter of the divine spells. It calls upon the power of your god to smite your enemy. This usually manifests in a way befitting your faith (Christians get big bright white lights in the shape of crosses, Olympians might get a bolt of lightning from the sky, etc). This magic has the power to tear a demon apart at the molecular level; sundering it from the inside out. This power is limited by the users ability to channel mystical energies. This form of magic can also be used to perform exorcisms of humans (who are never negatively affected by this divine power).

Blessing: Blessings call upon the mystical energies to enhance people or objects. Each blessing is unique and chosen at casting. Maintaining a blessing takes nearly all the casters concentration - they cannot cast other spells or even move while blessing people, though they can still speak. Blessings come in a number of forms including: Increases to a person's strength, speed, stamina, or other physical ability. When used on objects, the blessing acts as a ward to prevent demons from entering - acting as a sort of force field - or enhances its natural abilities (extending the range of a radio for example). Particularly powerful demons can overcome blessings. Augmented, Bound demons, and Turned are never affected by blessings and may even be expelled by a ward if they aren't powerful enough to over come it or too heavily augmented.

Prayers: Prayers are calls to your god or gods to send you a mercy. These mostly take the effect of a healing spell, though they can take other forms. Unlike blessings, prayers require no maintenance once cast, but require time to cast (you need to say the full prayer) and multiple prayers can exhaust the caster's ability. Prayers have no affect on monsters - including the bound - but can affect Turned and Augmented (because prayer empowers the target's "soul")

[HEADING=2]Advanced Technology[/HEADING]

Used by The Foundation, The National Biological Warfare Defense Analysis Center, U.N.I.T.E.D., The Consortium, and most individuals/small groups; Advanced Technology is the same mundane technology we use today. Rifles, radios, planes, rockets, etc. If it has moving parts, it's Advanced Technology. This tech is less effective against monsters than other kinds of weapons - such as Augmented or Extraplanar Technology - but is cheaper, infinity replaceable, and better than basic tool like a sword or spear. They can be affected by Blessings and Prayers and cannot corrupt the user. I won't go into specific details of Advanced Technology since it's similar enough to today's technology that there should be no difficulties.

[HEADING=2]Extraplanar Technology[/HEADING]

This technology are the prototype tools constructed by The Foundation. It is constructed of the bio-matter of Extraplanars killed. Unlike Augmented weapons and armor, it uses only the physical properties of the material. These properties are emphasized and enhanced by mundane technology to create powerful tools against the Extraplanar. Extraplanar technology can be used by The Foundation, The National Biological Warfare Defense Analysis Center, U.N.I.T.E.D., The Consortium, and particularly affluent or connected individuals.

No person has enough resources to gain more than a handful of pieces of Extraplanar Technology since it has yet to be mass produced and what few pieces are in short supply and high demand. That said, the extraordinary number of possible devices producible allows for almost any tool to be created. Examples include:

Certain kinds of monster have proven to have unique properties applicable to weapons technology. For some, this can be bullets able to pierce mutli-foot steel blocks with ease. Others include portable, hand-held railguns and directed-energy weapons. Yet others include extraordinarily small and powerful explosives.

Some Extraplanar skin is harder than steel, more flexible than spandex, and as breathable as Egyptian cotton while filtering out toxins all at feather weight. Some have interesting optical properties, allowing for human-sized meta-materials capable of refracting light around the wearer making them functionally invisible. Some pieces of bone can be forged in riot shields capable of deflecting explosive forces up to nuclear weapon levels.

Some large Extraplanars have provided the basis for advanced vehicle systems - enhancing speed, handling, acceleration, and/or millage. Sometimes vehicles have other Extraplanar tech grafted into it - making it tougher and/or giving it superior weapons tech.

[HEADING=2]Incorporation[/HEADING]

Incorporation is a skill unique to monsters. While the augmentation process prevents incorporation, The Turned and Bound creatures retain this power. A Monster can eat some of a creatures bio-matter to take its power. Unlike Augmentation which can only make an incomplete copy of the power, a monster's incorporation absorbs all of the creature's power. Like Augmentation, it takes some time before it can take effect (about a day for most Turned), but once the power is incorporated, it's yours. Some powers are more difficult to incorporate (such as a Kaiju's size), while others are easy (such as the claws of a werewolf). Monsters have been seen doing this to each other at times and it appears that's how the particularly power monsters are formed.

This power works on monsters and humans.

[HEADING=2]The Monsters[/HEADING]

The monsters take many forms. Some hide among humans, slowly feasting upon them and growing stronger. Others live in the still-dark places, biding their time until just the right moment to strike. Some are intangible apparitions who feast upon the souls of their targets, while others take a more physical approach - drinking the blood or eating the body. Some are so small they act more like a disease than a demon, possessing and growing like a virus. Others are sky-scraper sized monsters hiding in the oceans, feeding on whales. Others are so alien they cannot be properly described in a generalized way. Finally, some take recognizable forms from mythology - Vampires, Werewolves, Minotaurs, Dragons, and so on.

Due to the shear diversity of the monsters, describing them by physical characteristics has proven next-to impossible. Instead, they are organized by threat level - Type I through Type V

Image property of Lazarus Returns on deviantART

The most common of monsters, Type I's are the weakest. They often serve more potent monsters as servants or hide in regions far away from large populations. These creatures take many forms, but all are roughly as strong and fast as an Olympian athlete with some deadly natural weapon and no supernatural powers. Their intelligence can vary from little more than animal to genius level intellect (though no initial scientific knowledge). Most Turned come from this type.

Mythological examples include a non-replicable Zombie, an Elf, or an Orc.

This level of monster is usually physically tougher and more intelligent than a typical Type I and has some sort of supernatural power which sets them above the common ilk and drastically increases their threat level. Such powers are limited by the use of rare components or available energy. These powers usually take the form of arcane spells on par with mid-level Cabal mages.

Mythological examples include Vampires, Werewolves, or Gorgon/Medusa

Image property of Paizo Publishing

Type III's pose a significant threat to national sized areas. If they have a physical form, its usually a powerful one able to tear tanks apart on whims and survive bombing runs. Some take a more subtle approach, hiding among humans infiltrating their institutions and taking command of enormous resources. Others at this level have no physical form, instead taking an intangible form with great magical powers at or above the most powerful human levels.

Mythological examples include Giants, Lich, or Skin Walkers

Type IV's are deemed continental or global threats. Type IV's with a physical emphasis can reasonably level a city in hours or minutes. More subtle versions have taken positions of such power that they can reasonably direct humanity to self-inflicted destruction (such as thermonuclear war). Magical Type IV's have powers vastly exceeding human mages and are capable of bending reality itself to their whims.

Mythological examples include Dragons/Kaiju, Dopplegangers, or Djinn

Type V is reserved for a creature capable of so significantly damaging the universe that it can only be described as an omnipotent god. No Type V has ever been observed

Mythological examples include Chronos, Osirus, or Amaterasu.

All creatures can be harvested for supplies - for Foundation/Consortium study, for Cabal arcana, for Turned incorporation, for U.N.I.T.E.D. and The National Biological Warfare Defense Analysis Center containment/destruction, or for Knights Templar eradication.

[HEADING=1]Character List:[/HEADING]

Name: Hugh Paille
Gender & Age: 19, male
Faction: Knight's Templar

Appearance: Hugh is a somewhat tall, around 5'10" 150 pound olive skinned young man with short black hair and bright blue eyes that pierce out of his dark complexion. He carries his strong frame well with only the slightest bit of noticeable scarring on the top of his left hand.

He dresses in a way that would seem more in place with 50's America than 2017. Jeans or some sort of pants, always ironed, with a leather belt and a plain t-shirt of varying colors tucked into them. Over that is normally some kind of button-up shirt and a wool and leather jacket with a handful of patches, none of which are exactly recognizable. However, beneath the shirts and always on a cord around his neck is a plain silver cross, oxidized from centuries of existence and a signet ring, also on a cord around his neck, of two men riding a single horse.

He walks with a practiced precision and rigidity from a lifetime of training and impending Knighthood, though he's a still a kid and is not adverse to forgetting said training and simply wandering around with wide-eyed amazement if there's a huge amount of input he hasn't seen before.

Biography/History: Hugh's family is a bit of an oddity, his father of no real consequence, while his mother was a Frenchwoman on a pilgrimage, one both familial and religious. He was born and after his first few years with his parents, sent straight into a private Catholic School, one archaic by design, within spitting distance of the Papacy, and extremely limited in both the numbers of the student body and faculty, the entire school having only two score students, with a very strange hierarchy, of which Hugh himself was near the top of simply by existing, a fact he resented for much of his life, but has since found his place in the world within their ranks. Here he learned of his heritage and what his life would end up being, at the very least, he would leave his schooling a proud member of the Catholic faith, at most, a fully inducted member of the Templar Knights.

This school he learned much of the same as any other student, though being born left-handed certainly proved a challenge in his early months, earning himself numerous smacks and eventually learning to use both his hands after they began teaching them Demonology and the basics of defending oneself, first physically, and then through the power of their Faith. He excelled in many of their subjects, but was very much behind in "normal" subjects, many concepts of math and science elude him to the point of him barely passing those subjects during his education and they continue to elude him.

Once his parochial education ended at 17, his true education began. As he learned through his years at the school, nearly all of the children at the school were either descended from the few Templars that survived the wrath of Phillip of France, or direct descendents of the handful of founding members that took wives and had children that in turn may not have become Templars themselves, but carry the legacy of those few men. Of those two score students, only twenty were admitted into the Templar ranks, Hugh simply by relation was always going to be let in, no matter his grades in Templar subjects, though his excellence in learning of exorcisms, the names and shapes demons most often took, and sacred prayers certainly made it easier for the members of the Templar order at the time to stomach allowing him entrance.

For an entire year, he no longer learned about the workings of science, or that of mathematics, but instead, what he had been made to read and comprehend in defense against demons, was put to the test of learning exactly how to combat them. Pencils were replaced with weapons and true holy water, paper with cross and crucifix, and ink replaced with blood, sweat, and tears as they were taught exactly how to prepare the rituals for exorcisms, the symbols that allowed them to call upon the power of God, and how to turn their faith into physical weapons should they need to. Hugh emerged from this ordeal stronger than before in the workings of Mother Church and as a full-member of the Knights Templar, though still of a very low rank despite his heritage, thought still a Knight of one of the most secretive organizations in the world to have ever been allowed entrance back into the Catholic Church.

Having finished his training, the final task was given to he and his new comrades, to go on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem itself on the same path the Templars of old protected for the medieval pilgrims. Modern transport and technology was forbidden. It was little more than another ritual, but Hugh left for his journey nonetheless, and once he reached his birthplace and home, was directed to a Church that contained a branch of the Templars, one his mother was in the leadership of, and where he received his first posting in Boston. A flight was scheduled and he boarded it with little more than the clothes on his back, a small satchel with a strap around his shoulder, the original signet ring of the Templars, and the blessed holy cross of Hugues de Payens, founder of his Order, and direct ancestor on his mother's side.

Personality: Hugh has a sort of frat boy mentality to him, simple learning never truly interested him, but learning about the darkness in the world excites him, and having lived a substantial portion of his life within view of the Vatican, he relishes any chance he has to experience the world he was barred from entering for so long. And though he resented his heritage in the early years of his life, as he was deprived of the simple pleasures most children in the modern era took for granted, as he has never had ice cream in his life, or watched a movie, listened to music that he didn't have to make himself, and is easily overcome with childlike glee due to not having these things in his life beforehand. Despite all this, he is happy with his place in life, there is no reason for him to hate the Catholic Church, which had given him so much, and although it may have taken away the life he would've had before being sent to the school, he would never trade it for the life he has now, even if it may very well end with his horrible and bloody death.

Divinity and Modern Tech: Particularly Blessings and Purification, Hughues de Payens cross, and modern day weaponry are what he uses to combat the demons that plague the world now. Sword and board is nice and all, but aside from the precious handful of actual holy weapons from before this era held mostly by the highest ranking members of the Order, there are no weapons that have survived the ages either through real destruction, or simple wear and tear of age.

Besides, while he knows how to use close combat weapons, nearly every demon and monster in the world that he has been prepared for are often much stronger than humans themselves for the most part, why would you want to get locked into combat with them unless you are forced to, and even then, what use do you have for carrying around such an archaic weapon that could be easily channeled into existence with the help of the Templar Order's training.

Purification manifests itself as actual weapons from the Templar order, either bullets and cartridges of pure divine energy, or the more archaic swords and spears. Purely smiting a demon or monster is something that requires more training than what Hugh has mastered.

Blessings however follow the standard practice, though are slightly stronger against true demons as the Templar Order is trained to hunt them down and destroy them.

However, Prayers are something he didn't focus on, as they are not as useful on the fly, as most combat is. And as a result, he has very little skill in that area, despite him meaning every prayer he makes to God.

Notable Skills:
- Practiced Marksman and close combat adept
- Demon knowledge and weaknesses of said demons, as well as the names and preferred forms of those that have been encountered and/or defeated before
- Purification
- Blessings
- Survival Training
- Access to the Vatican/Templar Vaults, where both knowledge and true artifacts are stored to keep them away from the world.

Weapons: Standard Templar hunting gear.

- Which consists of two semi-automatic pistols, 18 shots each, holsters for each, as well as four extra magazines, two with regular ammo, and two with hollowpoint rounds. all magazines are strapped to each leg.

- A single combat knife,plain.

- strong, but flexible body armor, pretty standard for military and mercenary groups worldwide, devoid of any augmentations and monster parts. Pure human craftsmanship straight from the Templar armory before the Vatican.

- The cross of Hughues de Payens, which in itself can be used as a holy weapon should it be needed.

Other:
-Has a mild case of OCD that doesn't always manifest itself the same way every time unfortunately due to years of doing the same task over and over in order to perfect a containment circle for exorcisms, military precision and schedules, and being smacked into submission of not using his left hand in front of the clergy.
- Due to his years of hand abuse, he is uncomfortable with his hands around nuns, clasping them behind his back if there's nothing he can do with them.

Name:Rain Winter

Gender (if applicable) & Age: Male, 24

Appearance:

6'2" Tall and slender but strong. He has pale skin and dark eyes, as well as curly black hair with a fringe that almost covers his eyes. He favours a black leather coat and thick boots, as well as a pair of black gloves. His eyelashes are dark, framing his eyes and making them look more narrow than they are. His body language is usually guarded and he's careful in his approach of other people, always keeping a careful (and narrowed) eye on whoever he sees. He'll keep his sword in a guitar case when he needs to hide it, but he tends to keep to the shadows regardless. Underneath his coat he wears dark clothes as well, usually dark red, black and brown, sometimes with the addition of gold. They are somewhat old-fashioned clothes.

Faction: The Cabal.

Biography/History: Rain was born and raised within the Cabal. His mother died during his birth, while his father had no ties to the organization, so he never got to meet either of them. Because of this, the Cabal ended up being the one family he did have. He never interacted much with children of his age, and thus wouldn't do well when he did meet people. His education was given to him within the Cabal, and because of this, he was taught the tricks and knowledge of the Cabal along with his maths. Rain was also trained to fight and identify demons for a possible invasion. This was before 2012, and thus, there was no sure knowledge of that this would ever serve him good.

While not completely out of touch with the world, Rain never did take much interest in the modern society. Because of this, it was almost a blessing when the demons did re-emerge. At that time he was 18, and thus was able to be sent out on missions as soon as there was a need. For six years now his life has been travelling from one place to another, following the trails of demons, and fighting them when he could. He's relied on a sense of right and wrong that is somewhat altered by his knowledge, and it'd be a lie to claim that he has never broken a law. Nevertheless, he has thus far relied on instructions from Cabal, his skills, and the ability to live on scraps, all while travelling in a world that is just a tad too advanced for his liking. While some scars can testify to the fact that he hasn't always been as flawless as he'd like to be, he's still done pretty well so far.

He came to Boston when he heard news about the demon on a killing spree, and has no knowledge of anyone else who might be there for the same reason. Rain has no personal goals.

Personality: Outwardly cold, but with little experience in interacting with people outside his organization, it simply can't be denied that he is, in fact, a tsundere. Because of this, he's seen as hostile, yet calm, and few actually notices the fact that he might not mind other people as much as he appears to do. Sometimes, like a true tsundere, he goes out of his way to make it clear that he's just doing his job, which, to be fair, might be true as well, as he's very dedicated to his one purpose in life. Having no real goal on his own, he can do just about anything for the Cabal, even going as far as killing in situations that would be seem as immoral. That said, he prefers to save people, and he leans towards chaotic good as a moral position.

Rain can be somewhat condescending because of how he was raised, especially when it comes to people's knowledge of demons. It's hard for him to put himself in the shoes of someone who introduced to the existence of demons very suddenly, and thus he might seem like he's unable to empathize with them. However, he's rather soft on the inside, and even quite naive and thick-headed when it comes to emotions. While he normally won't express it, he does tend to get upset for the sake of others and is emotional, even going as far as withdrawing to somewhere he can express sadness without being seen. (To clarify, he's a bit of a crybaby.)

Arcana/Divinity/Extraplanar Tech: Rain uses the Augmentation arcana in order to fight. The sword, being somewhat oversized even before further Augmentation, can cut deep, often cutting straight through bones, and carries a heavy weight to it. On some, weaker demons, it has the effect of being able to completely sever the flesh, making them unable to regenerate/heal naturally for an extended period of time. When further augmentation is done to it, it can adopt one of the abilities of the slay demon for couple of days, though it won't be a strong version of the ability.

His coat and gloves, as well as the guitar case has also been augmented, and is capable of withstanding a lot of damage, most notably the damage done from his own blade, as they were all augmented from the same demon. While he can take damage through the coat due to it's flexible nature, it would take a lot to pierce it.

Finally, his boots are augmented, being from the legs of a werewolf. They look like normal/simple boots most of the time, and increase his speed from the average person. However, they can also be temporarily fused with his feet, which makes his feet and part of his legs look more like those of a werewolf (though, mostly hairless), increasing his speed further, as well as, since they get directly linked, making his whole body accustomed to a higher speed for a limited time. This includes eyes and mental capability, making him capable of detecting movements and making decisions at a high speed.

Notable Skills: Rain is strong and agile, capable of fighting with a large sword, or even unarmed. He's an expert on the topic of demons, but only the kind of things that Cabal would have in their library. His senses are better than average, and he's good at reading a fight. While he has limited knowledge of a lot of topics, he's intelligent and quick-witted. Finally, he's subtle and sneaks around easily, being able to keep attention away from himself if he needs to.

Other:
- Rain is not a tech-savvy person at all.
- I'd like him to be introduced from within the shadows, possibly during a fight.
- While the boots are fused to him, he's slightly weak against silver, though that is merely a side-effect.

Name: Randall Summers, prefers to go by his last name

Gender & Age: Male, 44 years old

Appearance: Randall's fashion sense is a bit behind the times, though its also somewhat restricted by what he refers to as his 'skin condition'. He tends to keep his face concealed with a combination of balaclava and sunglasses, as well as a variety of hats. Other than that he wears long sleeves, gloves, and a large brown overcoat, often with muted or dark colors. Underneath all this his body is rather decayed, a result of an 'augmentation' he stumbled into years ago leaving him undead. Fortunately a mixture of the magics that made him this way and an occasional application of febreeze keep him from smelling too much like a corpse, but he looks rather withered and ghoulish with gray-green skin and even his bones visible in places.

Faction: Randall is largely independent, though he has been known to work for other groups on occasion, in particular corporations belonging to the consortium, which gives him some solid connections with that faction.

Biography/History: Randall's childhood and early life were nothing remarkable, he was born and raised in Chicago, his father was a police officer and in some sense Randall followed in his footsteps by becoming a detective. He earned a reputation as a hard but fair man, and while he got involved with all manner of dangerous situation he didn't find himself confronted with the supernatural until about five years ago. A kidnapping case, several children gone missing and the only lead the police had they were waiting on a warrant to follow. Randall decided not to wait and broke into the building on his own, moving floor by floor until he stumbled across what he could only describe as a satanic ritual. He moved in guns blazing, managing to disrupt the ritual though it proved too late for the kids. What happened next he has trouble remembering, all he knows is that the police found him and the suspect dead in a circle of blood and bodies, wrestling over a medallion.

Strangely that wasn't the end for him, as he did something dead men tend not to do, he woke up. It took some time for him to figure out and come to terms with what had happened to him, the wizard's notes had been destroyed in their brief but fiery battle, and all he knew was that he had ended up some sort of zombie. He resolved to keep going though, all this really meant to him was that there might be others out there like that wizard, or perhaps even worse things, and that it was his job to stop them. Eventually he ended up in contact with other groups, and learned more about his condition as well as the supernatural threats plaguing the world. He often worked with or for the other groups he came across, but in the end stayed relatively independent as he held an attachment to Chicago, stating that it was his town and his job was to protect it.

Personality: Randall tends to act gruff and cynical with a lot of regrets built up over the years, though he is easily impressed by someone showing 'guts' and becomes much more encouraging and friendly around people who have impressed him. His sense of humor often veers into the inappropriate, and in spite of his undead nature he can seem to be a bit hedonistic at times. Underneath all this though he is a very hopeful person, and does try to see the best in people or whatever situation he's found himself in.

Arcana/Divinity/Extraplanar Tech:

Undead Augmentation: Randall's main distinguishing power is that he is undead (how he became so is detailed in his bio), some might refer to him as a lich but he lacks the spellcasting abilities associated with one. This state means that he doesn't get tired, is impressively strong (especially considering his desiccated appearance), and can endure a lot of damage. When a part of his body is destroyed it quickly crumbles to dust, and he begins to heal quickly (not quickly enough to be any use in combat but certainly faster than a normal person, especially since normal people can't regenerate their limbs). Its unknown the amount of damage he can survive, but his regeneration seems to be tied to his proximity to a medallion he keeps on his person at all times, the further away from it he is the slower he heals. The medallion itself is very resistant to damage, though how much damage it can survive is unknown as Randall isn't about to explore its limits. He does seem to be able to sense where the medallion is if he's separated from it, though its more of a general direction to it rather than knowing exactly where it is. His undead state also renders him more or less immune to some forms of magic, most notably mind controlling magic, though it does leave him vulnerable to others.

Notable Skills: Randall has been in the monster hunting game for some time now, and has picked up a number of tricks. He's a crack shot, knows how to pick locks and pockets, can be quite stealthy when he needs to be, and even has picked up a few tricks with explosives from a job a few years ago. Beyond that he's a very good detective, with all the knowledge and skill that entails. He's observant, skilled at reading people, and has even managed to stay decently up to date with technology. Finally he used to box, and can still throw some mean punches though he tends to lack finesse in melee combat.

Other: Randall was hired by an interested party to come investigate the incidents in Boston.

<spoiler=Mestizaje as Victoria Van Aerden>Name: Victoria Van Aerden
Gender (if applicable) & Age: Female, 26
Faction: The Consortium. In particular, the medical company Winter that was founded by her father and that she inherited after his mysterious death.

Appearance: Victoria is a caucasian of medium height, 174 cm, and weighs around 62 kg. She has a round face with black tidy hair, some freckles and green eyes. She rarely wears a lot of makeup, but still enough to keep a good and proper look whenever she leaves her quarters in her mansion. Victoria doesn't like to appear dirty or unclean even in front of her servants. It is not befitting of a lady or a CEO.

Her body is rather slim and thin, meaning she'd not be able to do any heavy lifting, but then why would she perform the work of those below her on the social ladder. She has a decent stamina though, which she'd gotten more recently during her hunts with Sesthine.

She's often thought of as looking intelligent or cruel, rather than pretty. She'd fit into a crowd easily if she'd ever been forced to enter one. However, she prefers it if the average people keep their distance from her.

She wears expensive black suits wherever she goes, together with black shiny shoes, unless she is at home in which case she'd wear something more relaxing. The things she'd wear at home would depend on if she was in her quarters of the mansion that few are allowed to visit or if it was in an area that the servants may be in. Of course, she'd wear formal luxury clothes if she ever invited people over or was invited to a fancy dinner.

<spoiler=picture>

Biography/History: Victoria was the first and only child of Victor Van Aerden, the founder and CEO of an international and multi-million dollar company. Her mother, Alyana Van Aerden, was one of the company's top scientists. She rarely, if ever, saw her parents when she grew up and was almost always taken care off in some way by the help that her father employed. It could be everything from nannies and butlers to security guards. She became particularly good friends with the limousine driver that would drive her between the high class private school that her father had donated a new house too, and her other private tutors that she received education from. Victoria studied the normal subjects from all of these people, such as history, religion, mathematics and chemistry. However, she got to pick a few topics herself to study, such as choir singing and dancing.

The limousine driver would often tell her fantastic tales about magic and monsters, when he was driving her around. It entertained her, but she never believed any of it were real. In truth though, the man was a descendant of a cabal lineage, who simply had gotten a job as a driver for the rich since there hadn't been any monsters around to fight for a long time and his ancestors had likely assumed they'd won their war when they saw no new demons. He probably didn't believe the stories himself. Either way, when Victoria grew older he gave her books to read that had been passed down through his family. Eventually the other servants learnt how the loved daughter and heir to the Van Aerden fortune had a favourite among them, and got him fired by spreading rumours up the ladder until the father heard about it. It happened a few months before december 2012. Victoria wasn't saddened by the fact that the driver got fired, as she was assured he'd still be well off and have more work for others. She didn't care much that she'd lost the closest thing she had to a friend.

Victoria's parents died under strange circumstances when the demons and monsters first entered the world, leaving Victoria to inherit his company. She'd never worked in the company, but heard or read about it in the news every now and then. The servants had gossiped a lot about it too whenever they thought she wasn't listening or paying attention. The name of the company was Winter, and it mainly dealt in medical research areas. Victoria was made CEO, and over the following months she learnt the truth about her parents' death. It put the stories of her old driver in a different light. It was the first time she'd thought about him since he'd been fired from her service by her father. She had wondered briefly if he was aware that these creatures belonging to his ghost stories had entered reality.

Victoria may have been made CEO of Winter, but it was mostly only in name, while a board of directors ran the actual company and took care of its dealings. Victoria was more interested in the monsters themselves, and how her mother had tried to improve the company's experiments and products by studying them. She'd meant to capture them but clearly that had gone horribly wrong for her. Victoria's father had been helping her mother by supporting the brilliant woman with money to perform her research and a smaller army in the form of other scientists, and what Victoria assumed was actual soldiers to fight the creatures.

The event that claimed the lives of her parents and fifty other people were covered up, their bodies never to be seen again. She didn't know if some government agency had claimed the bodies for their own research, or if the beasts had eaten them.

Victoria studied both the books she'd lent from the driver, and the reports of monsters that Winter got a hold of. She engaged herself in the advancement of the company's research, thinking that these demons may be able to be used for the better of humanity, curing all manner of diseases, perhaps even death itself. She didn't hope or want to bring her parents back if they ever did discover a cure for death. Victoria was content with walking in their footsteps and letting the dead rest. Besides, it wasn't like they'd shown her much love or time when they'd been alive. Sadly, having them back would have been like having any two strangers back, and other people may need their parents more than Victoria ever had.

The years passed, Winter focused more on finding ways to capture these monsters to use them in their experiments to improve their research and gain larger profits. Victoria managed to convince the board that the money poured into the venture would result in enormous profits one day. The day came when they finally managed to capture an already weakened type II. It was unwilling to co-operate and killed several scientists before Victoria used Arcana on it to bind it to herself. The female vampire warrior Sesthine was successfully bound to Victoria, helping her to track the monsters more efficiently than any of the tech Winter had developed or currently had in its possession.

She set out determined to capture more of the demons, and did indeed, soon giving Winter an advantage over a lot of companies on the market. Victoria may have begun to hunt monsters to gain money, continue her mother's research and rule her father's company, but the hunt itself became the main reason before too long. She enjoyed the thrill of it all.

Personality: Victoria is an elitist, not just thinking she's better than everyone else, but knowing that she is, as she was brought up being reminded of it constantly. She has no real friends and tends to focus more on her work than her social life. She's like her father and mother in that respect, even if they rarely ever met.

She is quite reserved and cold too, not often showing much emotion on the outside to the world. On the inside, she is a girl like any else if just a lot richer than the majority. She has dreams and hopes, but none of it concerning wealth or fame. There's a part of Victoria that wishes she could prove herself to her parents and gain their love, which she never had when they were alive. It may be the sad truth behind why she continues fighting the battle that they begun.

She hunts monsters more for the thrill or the monetary gain than the benefits it may have for humanity. However, she would still hand over any monsters she caught to her company which in turn would turn into medicine to help those humans who could afford it. Victoria could retire and live a peaceful life with the money she already has, not putting herself in danger by hunting monsters. She doesn't because she is the best hunter that the medical company has. In her own way, she serves the forces of good, but her upbringing and life means she'd never make any claim to helping anyone else.

Arcana/Divinity/Extraplanar Tech:

Binding. Victoria has bound a type II vampire to her, named Sesthine.

Sesthine.

Appearance: The vampire warrioress is tall, over 2 meters, and wears ringmail armor as protection. As she is a vampire and weak to sunlight, Sesthine also wears a long coat with a hood, leather gloves and boots. Her sword is a common claymore, with no special features in itself. If one were to guess where she came from originally, her clothes would suggest it was from a medieval timeline. Victoria has also given her a black veil, with Winter's logo on it, which Sesthine uses to cover her face with during the day, except her red hellish eyes that peeks out from beneath the hood and behind the veil.

Underneath her clothes there's an endless story, written in the array of tribal tattoos and scars that covers her body. One of the tattoo covers parts of her face as well. It is the story of an ancient vampire that experienced everything most humans does when they are alive, and then when she died she got to experience even more still.

<spoiler=Picture>

Personality: Sesthine's story is unknown, and while almost eager to socialize with her master at times she hasn't said much about it. Perhaps, because Victoria doesn't seem to care much about her as anything else than a tool. She drops hints every now and then that she might have been of high standing wherever she came from, tells tales about her military experiences, and shows a remarkable aptitude at cracking jokes about death and suffering at the most inappropriate opportunities. If anything she has the mindset of a soldier that has seen too much shit. She's a lot more charismatic than Victoria too, which would imply she wasn't always a warrior.

Interraction: The bond is always there, but not always visible. Victoria can feel Sesthine wherever she is, and vice versa. However, Victoria can manifest the bond as brightly glowing chains that would seem too hot to touch, when Sesthine struggles or goes against an order. These chains would mainly appear around the vampire's throat, and wrists.

Winter provides the blood that the vampire needs to survive, in form of donations that they get from people willing to contribute to science. The amount of blood donations the company wants has doubled since Sesthine joined their ranks. They cover up the real reason as best as money can, but sometimes they let Sesthine herself take care of anyone who's tried to reveal the truth. It always ends in a bloodbath when the vampire is allowed to deal with the whistleblower.

The interraction between master and slave is generally smooth without much trouble for Victoria to control Sesthine. On occasions when Sesthine's not had any blood to drink though, she has acted like a ***** in heat around Victoria, trying to appeal to her master in more than one way to get her close enough to her. Victoria tries to assure this does not happen, but some situations can't be planned for. She does carry a couple of ampules of blood around with her after one too many of these encounters.

The first months Sesthine didn't adapt well to her new life in a strange world, which probably was cause they kept her locked up in the sublevels of Winter. She was little more than an animal in a cage which they did experiments on. Victoria agreed to improve her situation once she was bound. Now that some years has passed she's happy with their arrangement, and that she has her own room in Victoria's mansion. More than once she's claimed she'd just break the chains if she wanted too, and if Victoria wasn't such pleasant company. Sesthine has actually never made a serious attempt at breaking the chains. Twice she's even offered to turn Victoria into a vampire and suggested they'd rule Winter together. Victoria turned her down, uneasy at the prospect of becoming a tool in the service of someone else.

Powers: She possesses supernatural reflexes, speed and acrobatics, being able to move unlike any human. She jumps higher and longer, doesn't get fatigued and moves faster. She can also track the monsters based on scent, sniffing them out. It works even better if they're wounded and bleeding. Sesthine has incorporation like any other Bound.

Notable Skills: As a billionaire, Victoria is skilled at throwing money at things or people until she gets the result that she wants.

Victoria's also the CEO of a high-tech medical company, Winter, which gives her access to more advanced and immediate medical care should she or Sesthine need it.

She's well connected and has a lot of people working for her. She owns a mansion, a summerhouse and the medical company Winter

Other:
When it comes to introduction she'd probably be gliding around the city in a limousine, which she arrived in the city in.

Name: Adrian Drake

Gender & Age: Male, 35

Appearance:

Standing at 6'9 and possessing a large, muscular physique, Adrian towers over most humans. Of African-American descent, what remains of his original skin is coal-black. His hair is black too, although he keeps his face and scalp clean shaven.

An augmented human, Adrian has had the dull-red scales of a lizard demon grafted onto his skin. Only his head, neck and palms remain uncovered. His eyes have been augmented too, they produce a soft, red glow.

To hide his augmented features, Adrian's usual attire consists of black combat boots, cargo pants and shirt. A silver buckled belt and a red coat complete the outfit. He wears dark sunglasses whenever he wants to disguise his red eyes. His weapon of choice is the sword Souldrinker, an ancient blade which contains a powerful demon trapped within itself. He carries this sword in hand most of the time, although he will strap it to his back if needed.

Faction: Cabal

Biography/History:

Growing up in the New York chapter of the Cabal, Adrian has been aware of the paranormal all his life. He quickly developed a fascination with demons, the tales of their incredible powers were always his favourite as a child. His parents approved of his interest in the subject, they were high ranking members of the chapter and after his older sister ran away from it all, they were glad to have one of their children stay within the organization.

As he grew older, Adrian's fascination with the power of demons slowly morphed into a fascination with power itself. He didn't want to settle as some nobody researcher for the Cabal - he wanted to become somebody people would recognize, somebody people would fear.

This obsession with power drove him to train every day, in unarmed combat and with the sword. He disliked the thought of long range combat, preferring to get up close and personal with his opponent. As he entered adulthood, his training combined with his hulking size made him a fearsome opponent.

Throughout his twenties Adrian primarily worked as muscle for the Cabal, and he gained recognition for his ferocity and effectiveness. He remained fascinated with demons and even dabbled in some research of the subject, but he did not take to scholarly work nearly as well as he did to fighting. While he's certainly not stupid, his brain just wasn't wired for that sort work, and that frustrated him greatly.

On the day of the return, Adrian was overjoyed. The object of his fascination returning to the world? He couldn't imagine anything better. Now perhaps he could find a way to claim their power for his own.

As Cabal members began to research and undergo augmentation, Adrian eyed them hungrily. He wanted to become augmented himself, but he lacked the skill and knowledge to do so. There is more than one way to obtain the power of demons though, and deep in an old Cabal vault Adrian found such a way.

The ancient sword Souldrinker. The demon Eligos is trapped within this blade, giving it great power. Adrian claimed this sword as his own and put it to good use, hunting and killing lower tier monsters for the Cabal. In one particular fight, Adrian found himself outnumbered and backed into a corner by three lizard demons. Out of options he allowed Eligos to take control. Tendrils crawled up his arm as the unleashed demon made short work of his lesser foes. As Adrian regained control, something amazing happened. Instead of Eligos incorporating the demon material, Adrian himself did. Scales emerged all over his body, leaving only his head, neck and palms untouched.

Adrian's augmentation made him a much more deadly opponent, allowing him to hold his own against more powerful enemies. He has only unleashed Eligor once since that day, when fighting a harpy. This battle enhanced his eyes, granting him more powerful vision, especially at night.

Now Adrian is working as a field operative for the Cabal, hunting down and killing monsters as they appear. He has arrived in Boston in search of his next target.

Personality:

Adrian is a very driven individual. When on a job he focuses on it completely, pursuing his prey doggedly. He won't harm innocents intentionally, but he will not go out of his way to protect them either. If it comes to a choice between saving someone or taking down his target, most of the time he will go for the target. Adrian is also still looking for ways to increase his power, whether it's through additional augmentations or just improving his combat prowess. He fears unleashing Eligos too much though, not only does he hate the feeling of someone else controlling his body, he fears what would happen if the demon never relinquished it. As such he only uses it in the most dire of circumstances.

Outside of a mission, Adrian is a bit more relaxed. He is aware that the Cabal needs to maintain good relations with the rest of the world, so he tries not to offend anyone needlessly. If you gain his respect enough, he may even act friendly towards you. Do not piss him off though, his anger is terrible to behold.

Arcana/Divinity/Extraplanar Tech:

Augmentation Arcana. Adrian's demon eyes give him enhanced vision, especially at night. His scale armour is very strong, capable of deflecting small calibre bullets and most conventional weaponry. Some of the demonic power has leaked from the augmentations into Adrian, giving him enhanced strength and speed. This means he is not encumbered by his scale armour in any way.

The sword Souldrinker is a magical artifact, with abilities of its own that Adrian can utilize (See it's personal character sheet for these).

Notable Skills:

-Excellent swordsman
-Proficient unarmed fighter
-Enhanced strength and speed
-Enhanced vision

Name: Eligos
Gender & Age: Male and as for his age, at least over a thousand years old.
Faction: Turned

Appearance: One could easily mistake Eligos for an artifact of some sort. He rests within a labour of love: a hand-and-a-half sword forged with the finest materials - for the stronger the soul, the stronger the vessel must be. At least in theory. The blade has been forged from a blessed sign of the heavens, some may call it a shooting star while the more scientifically-inclined may just call it meteoric iron - the iridium within strengthening the metal. The sword itself started out as a noble and pure vessel to house an evil and infernal demon but over time, Eligos?s demonic nature twisted it in something else.

The crossguard - once straight and true to represent the cross - has been warped into a curved thing and to the touch, it feels more like horn than metal. Almost the same thing has happened with the hilt, which has taken on a bone-like appearance and feel. What has burst through the rain guard is the one thing that is both Eligos?s pride - being the result of hundreds of years of effort - and his shame, since it drives people away. It is an eye, his eye. What remains of his eyelid is raw and red, while the eye itself is a pale yellow with a red iris and a black vortex for a pupil.

Below the eye is an inscription, hammered onto the ricasso as soon as his soul entered the blade. It reads:

'A Vessel for a Soul,
Of a Vanquished Foe.

Bound with Rites Uncommon,
And Locked with The Key of Solomon.

Once a Demon Knight.
Now takes up Another?s Fight.

By Human Hand He hath turned Traitor,
Condemned as a Demon-Slayer?s Waster.'

In addition, tendrils emanate from the numerous small gaps in the blade, mostly around the eye itself.

Biography/History: There is little the bound demon actually remembers, what remains in his memory is his name, the title ?Great Duke of Hades? and the fact that he definitely didn?t spend the majority of his life stuck in a sword. However, for posterity?s sake, the story goes a little like this: as described in the Ars Goetia, Eligos has spent millennia ruling his sixty legions and being summoned by those who desired his assistance. Unfortunately, one summoning when a little bit wrong. At least from Eligos?s point of view. The summoning took place in winter, in the daytime where the demon knight would be at his weakest - naturally, the converse is where he would be at his strongest.

The summoning circle was surrounded with old yellow candles and thyme - the summoner had gotten everything correct. The only thing odd was that there was a rather fancy-looking sword on the mantlepiece. At first, the Great Duke thought it was to be a gift - something rather quaint. In fact, the whole setup was rather quaint - the summoner was nothing but a skinny bookworm! Eligos didn?t even even stop to think about it, though, regardless of the fact it was rather strange being so close to a forge. At first, it went smoothly, the usual deal: martial prowess for the human?s immortal soul.

Then suddenly, there are a whole circle of damn bookworms. They moved towards the summoning circle menacingly, of course, Eligos could do nothing to stop them as he was limited in terms of interacting with the mortal realm. Of course, as soon as they entered the summoning circle, the circle was broken. But before Eligos could react, he was skewered in the side by an array of holy weapons, all glowing white-hot. Along with that and the chanting, the demon knight?s armour broke. As soon as that happened, Eligos was stabbed with the blade on the mantelpiece.

The cabal of sorcerers finished the ritual by hammering the demon into the blade. Eligos only remembers the blinding pain and heat. Since then, Eligos, or rather the sword named Souldrinker, has been property of the Cabal. For years, the sword was left in storage. Eligos, naturally, took the opportunity to try and sneak out of the Cabal?s grip - mainly, the matter of being trapped in the damned blade. Of course, the reemergence of demons - or Extraplanar Entities as the humans are now calling them - ruined all of that. Now, he works, or rather is forced to work, as a demon slayer in his own little way.

Well, he didn't really have a choice in the matter. In times of peril, humans look to their stored superweapons for deliverance and the Cabal were no difference. One of them, a certain Adrian Drake, busted him out of a the Cabal Vault he was placed in. Unfortunately, the man wasn't kind enough to let Eligos go free. Adrian only saw the power that Souldrinker could give him. However, Eligos also saw an opportunity. With enough Incorporation, he could break free of his metal cage. And so, he has currently been at Adrian's side ever since. Literally.

One notable event in the history of their partnership is when the man finally let the trapped demon take over. Eligos had been awaiting that day for centuries, even if it was but a chance at gaining a human host. Fortunately for Adrian, the attempt failed. Eligos couldn't implant himself in the limited time the bond between the two was present. However, there was a small blessing: what Eligos Incorporated, Adrian did so instead and had desired that power ever since he had witnessed it - meaning Mr. Drake is blissfully unaware of Eligos's little backup plan...

At least as long as he gets some demons slain and "free" Augmentation.

Speaking of which, the pair are now in Boston, in search of more demons to slay.

Personality: What happens when nearly all of someone?s strength is sucked from them? Well, for more thing, a rage begins to burn. What happens when that is combined with being sealed in some crummy ass sword for hundreds for years? That anger simmers. In other words, Eligos is a somewhat rage-filled individual, this especially comes out when fighting. Eligos relishes combat and always looks forward to the next battle. Those who put up a poor fight are seen by Eligos as not worth the effort of cleaning the blood off the blade he is imprisoned in. Outside of combat, he is polite but sour as Eligos still has some of his pride from his glory days. Of course, most just see him as a sword with a voice - which he finds quite insulting.

Arcana/Divinity/Extraplanar Tech: None. They are the tools of humans. Well, apart from a minor bit of Arcana: using the sword?s metal as a catalyst, he can turn himself into any bladed weapon within reason. Though, he?d rather not make a habit of messing with the binding magicks within the blade. In addition to that, he can float. However, it is quite taxing and prefers to be carried - as humiliating as that is. Also, any Incorporated material can become part of the sword, for example, dragon scales for the grip. Finally, if his wielder allows it, Eligos can take control for a little while. When this happens, the previously mentioned tendrils snake up his wielder?s arm. The more trusting the wielder, the more effective Eligos?s hold is. With any enemy killed in this way, if Incorporation happens, the wielder gets the ?prizes?.

Notable Skills: While some skills have simply atrophied away due to being sealed in a lump of metal for hundred of years but he still has some tricks up his sleeve. For one thing, he has a mind for tactics and strategy, and was summoned for such advice in his glory days. And of course, as a demon, he can Incorporate. Eligos has knowledge of his home plane, though whether it is up to date or not is a matter of debate. Also, he thinks of himself as the only sword that can train someone to use one properly. However, he knows little about the human world and technology.

Name: Father Shaun Daughtry

Gender & Age: Male, 28

Faction: The Knights Templar

Despite his tall and lanky stature, standing at 2 meters whenever he doesn't slouch, Shaun is normally described as a man that is easy to overlook simply due to what little attention he draws to himself. His skin is fair, while his face is rather narrow and lightly freckled. His jaw is strong, his nose blunt, and his mouth thin, while his pale green eyes are narrow behind the thin-rimmed glasses he wears. His hair as a golden blonde, usually cropped roughly short, while his face clean shaven.

Most often seen wearing the black formal wear of a Catholic priest, along with a long white overcoat, he usually 'goes to work' with an additional white armband around his right arm, depicting a red Templar Cross. Whenever he isn't dressed formally, he tends to favor the black trousers of his formal wear along with a loose white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up. Regardless of what he wears, he can't be described as anything but awkward and mousy. One thing he always wears however is his rosary, something he wears even in his sleep.

The weapon he wields for his demon hunting is a replica of the Spear of Longinus, a simple spear in the style of a Roman Hasta. Whenever he happens to be carrying it with him, and not using it in battle, he keeps the spearhead covered with what appears to be a brass headpiece in the shape of an ornate cross.

Around most people, Shaun is considered an awkward and rather soft spoken man, shy around crowds, particularly women, but beneath that he is a man of steadfast faith, iron will, and has a stubborn streak a mile wide, with the main problem being the fact that he is anything but a social creature. He is by far most comfortable whenever he is alone or with close comrades. However, even then, he is seen as something of a black sheep among the Roman Catholic priesthood, as well as among the Knights Templar due to his somewhat differing beliefs. While he is a strong believer in God and Christ Jesus, he doesn't entirely agree with the teachings of the Catholic Church, and is slightly more open-minded than most on certain things in regards to Christianity.

While is faith is a large part of who he is, however, he does try to avoid using his religion to define his interactions with others when at all possible, being a firm believer that others need to find their own way, and that shoving his Christianity down the throats of others will only harm his cause.

Overall, Shaun is a compassionate man, if impatient. He sees others, even if they are of a different faith, as God's children regardless, and fights against the Extraplanar to protect humanity at large. As such, he sees himself almost as a holy foot soldier, part of a new Crusade against the Legions of Hell, and because of that, he is particularly dangerous. Not because of his physical or Divine skills, but because he believes in his cause so firmly.

Divinity

Purification: Out of all of Shaun's talents in divinity, Purification is his weakest suit. He can perform basic Purifications, though they don't have the same impact as a Templar who has specialized in them, partly because he doesn't channel the same focus as he does with Blessings and Prayer, and doesn't have the same righteous anger fueling them. However, they are somewhat potent to lesser types of Extraplanar, just not as effective as they could be.

Blessings: Blessings are by far Shaun's strongest Divine power, to the point that they are more advanced than they would be for another Templar priest of equivalent rank and experience. His specialties are to enhance a person's resilience and stamina, as well as providing wards to repel demons, though he can supplement a comrades strength in a pinch. However, most of his Blessings tend to be more defensive than offensive.

Prayer: Besides Blessings, Prayer is Shaun's other strongest facet of his Divinity. Unlike other priests, he tries to avoid simply reciting a prayer like an actor would a script, but instead believes that a sincere Prayer, coming from ones heart in the heat of the moment is more effective, and that God responds more strongly to sincerity than simple verses. Unlike his Blessings, Shaun's Prayers are only slightly more effective than they would be had they come from a Templar of similar experience and rank.

Spear of Longinus: While only a copy given to low-ranking Templars, the Spear Shaun was given is still a rather effective weapon against the Extraplanar, having been Blessed with a fraction of the power of the original, giving it a Divine effect against Demons. In addition, Shaun tends to use it as a sort of catalyst alongside his rosary whenever giving Blessings or making Prayers.

Rosary: While a simple Roman Catholic rosary, Shaun has taken to wrapping it around his left hand while holding his Spear in his right, and occasionally resorting to using it as a makeshift holy knuckle-duster. Due to his strong faith, and the fact that he often uses it as a focus for a very minor Blessing of Strength, it proves to be slightly more effective than one would expect.

Physically, Shaun is rather fit, and although while he isn't exceptionally strong, agile or speedy, his real physical talent is his stamina. While partly due to his Templar training, a large part of it is due to his mindset and sheer stubbornness.

He is also extensively trained in fighting with a spear, and can use his Spear of Longinus to great effect, be it as a proper melee weapon or a thrown spear. Still, he prefers to keep to a support capacity with Blessings and Prayer. That does not mean that he will hesitate to use his spear should the worst come to pass.

Despite his training however, he will often devolve into fist-fighting should he get disarmed.

Shaun Daughtry was born in Dublin, Ireland, the result of an indiscretion between a minor Catholic priest and a member of his congregation. When said indiscretion was found out, Shaun had been born to two parents who wanted nothing to do with him, and was promptly given to a orphanage run by the Church. From there, he was taken in by the one of the priests there, a Father Roarke, and was given a proper Catholic upbringing. As a child, Shaun was rather easily intimidated by other people as a result, but looked up to Father Roarke as a parent, as well as an example of the Catholic Church itself: Patient, kind, compassionate, and understanding. At least, usually understanding.

His life in school was generally quiet, passing most of his classes and scarcely garnering any notice from either teachers or fellow students. This is due to him avoiding most unnecessary contact, though he did make a scant few friends, if one used the term loosely. Instead, his time was usually taken up by either textbooks, or the Bible given to him by Father Roarke himself. Even at a young age, he was fascinated with the book and it's teachings, as well as the history that was put into it.

Seeing that interest, Father Roarke suggested grooming Shaun into a priest himself, and after some time, Shaun accepted. Immediately after graduating secondary school, Shaun thrust himself into seminary. It was there, unlike during his public education when he was younger, that he actually garnered some notice among his peers, mainly because some of his differing beliefs. Despite that, however, he went through the four years necessary for his graduation, and from there took the necessary steps to be ordained to be a Priest.

But, at 24 and with his disposition towards people, he was far from an ideal priest to be leading in church services. He found it increasingly difficult to actually connect to the members of his parish thanks to his shyness and awkward demeanor, but in April of 2013, he found his true calling.

Late in the evening on Saturday, while he was preparing for the service the next morning, the church had been broken into. While he had heard the commotion, he had thought it would be some mislead thief, or someone planning to desecrate the church itself. Instead, he found out that it was a Type I Extraplanar. A demon. It had been chased there by a particularly dogged Knight Templar, who had led the beast to the church in the hopes of a place devoid of civilians, and as a form of home-field advantage.

As Shaun watched the two do battle, he took his rosary and prayed for God to bolster the Templar's strength, to keep him safe, as well as for the demon's destruction. Unbeknownst to him, his prayer took the form of a Blessing on the Templar, though the Templar himself noticed his renewed strength. When he smote the demon in the main chapel, he turned to Shaun and thanked him for his help, but refused to answer any questions. Instead, he cryptically said that only a higher power would be able to answer his questions, and he left.

The following weekend, Shaun had gotten a phone call from the Vatican. Called into Rome, he was informed of the Knights Templar's existence, and their purpose: To protect humanity from the Extraplanar, demons who had entered the world after the end of the previous year. And they told him that Shaun had potential, and offered him a chance to join the ranks of the Templars.

His former discontent as a mere priest, one who didn't properly reach his congregation, along with the chance to pursue an even higher calling was all the motivation he needed, and he accepted their offer. With the same zeal that he put into seminary, he put into his Templar training. He learned of just what kind of demons there could be, and of the limits of his own abilities. That he could channel God's power using his own faith in the form of Purifications, Blessings, and Prayers.

In addition, he was given a copy of the Spear of Longinus and trained to wield it. For the following three and a half years, he trained, studied, and practiced his new weapons, the gifts given to him by God to protect his children, as well as destroy his enemies. Once the Vatican felt he was ready for real combat, he was sent into the field with a temporary partner: The very same Templar he had watched kill the first demon he laid eyes on.

For the following six months, they traveled the world in response to demon sightings, and after killing several Type I's under the Templar's supervision, he was given his first proper assignment: Investigate a recent string of killings in Boston, suspected to be caused by a demon. He was also told that he would possibly have a partner from another division of the Knights Templar, but that much was unclear.

-Thanks to the Vow of Poverty Shaun had taken when entering the priesthood, he is almost borderline homeless, usually making due with what little they give him in the way of pay. While it means he has to live off of canned soup, instant noodles and frozen waffles, he accepts it because he sees his duty to the Knights Templar as not a career, but a calling. However, he wouldn't complain the opportunity to eat better.

-Shaun took his vows of priesthood early compared to some others in the clergy. Thanks to that, and lack of both time and opportunity when he was younger, Shaun is still a virgin, and it's because of those vows and the fact that he is still only human, he tends to be more awkward around attractive women than he would be some others.

-Despite being Irish by birth, Shaun doesn't have a noticeable accent. This is thanks to vocal training he was given when he entered into the Knights Templar, to help him blend in in the different countries he would be sent to. Since he disliked even the slight accent he had when he was younger, he is immensely thankful for this, but it occasionally comes out whenever he is extremely emotional.

A slight side-effect of that vocal training is that his voice is much more suited to singing, making him an above-average singer overall.

-Shaun has an actual Mission account for whenever he is actively hunting demons that is completely separate from his piss-poor wages. However, he must justify every single expense, and if he ever used that account for something other than a dire emergency or on an actual mission expense, in his words, "Only the Mother Mary or Christ Jesus themselves could keep the Vatican from stripping the cost out of my sorry hide."

-He also has a glasses allowance, due to being nearsighted and in a very dangerous profession. However, should he use them all within a year, any new glasses come out of what pay he has. Needless to say, he works to avoid that by being careful.

Name: Jackson Clark
Gender (if applicable) & Age: Male, 27.
Appearance: 5'5 Caucasian male, Clark has brown eyes and a shaved head. He has a fair face, his most notable features is his noticeable cheek bones and rounded chin. He does have a tattoo on his left shoulder for the 2nd Brigade. His civilian clothes often is a camo shirt with jeans. In combat, he wears an experimental, extraplanar technology stealth suit, or a variant on the standard US military uniform.
Faction: The National Biological Warfare Defense Analysis Center
Biography/History: Born in Texas, Jackson learned to shoot from an early age from his mother. After both his parents lost their jobs during the housing crisis, Jackson signed up for the military service to pay for college. His oustanding shooting performance got Jackson transfered to be trained as a sniper. After completing his training, Jackson was attached to the 2nd Brigade, and sent to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Jackson didn't see much combat, only ocassionally sent into the mountains to find the remains of the Taliban with his scout, and keep the Pakistan border secure. The tension was winding down, everyone was supposed to be pulled out within a year.
On June 3rd of 2013, the base was attacked. A giant creature, something that vaguely looked like a hideous man, rampaged through the base. No matter what they through at it, the monster healed off the wounds. Even a tank shell to the brain only stunned it as the Neuron's were replaced. The base commander was going to retreat everyone from the base and carpet bomb the monster. Jackson had his Barret .50, and took aim at the neck. Five shots, he severed the spinal cord of the creature. It finally died.
All the survivors was debriefed by an agency none of them had heard of, The National Biological Warfare Defense Analysis Center. Jackson was offered a job in the organization.
Jackson took it. Over the next five years, Jackson was sent on all kinds of missions. Most of the time providing overwatch to convoy's carrying captured entities or hunting down threatening creatures within the US. He has also worked on joint operations with other organizations, although it was easy to tell no side really trusts the other.
The years of combat, and the more questionable actions has taken their toll on the soldier. However, the young NBWDAC cannot afford to lose anyone with so much combat experience, such a precious resource in the organization. Jackson uses a drug from the Foundation that keeps most of the PTSD symptoms at bay, and sleep despite the nightmares.
Boston:
Jackson walked into the train station, carrying what looked like a big hiking pack. His phone vibrated.
"You will take the 10:30 train to Park Street Station. Tickets are attached to this text. Await further instructions."
This was the standard procedure for most assignments. Agents are kept in the dark about as much of the operation as possible. Not knowing means that, no matter what the entities are capable of, the operation cannot fully be compromised. Jackson walked to the turntables, held up his phone to a QR scanner, and was let in without a hassle. He waited at the platform, got onto the train as it pulled to the station three minutes late, and sat in a seat.
"I wonder if I will have time to see a performance at Symphony Hall..." Jackson thought.
Personality: Off duty, Jackson is quite a friendly and open person. To those he trusts and likes, he often cracks jokes, and acts very kind. Some of that, though, is to hide and suppress the On duty, however, the man doesn't speak and rarely shows any emotion, always trying to be professional. He doesn't particularly trust turned or the augmented.

A .50 caliber "anti-ordinance" sniper rifle, the XM500 is lighter and slightly more accurate than the current Barrett .50. While normally he uses standard .50 BMG rounds, Jackson does have a few Foundation experimental anti-demon rounds, saved only for truly dire situations, due to the extremely limited supplies.
Included photo just to prove it exists. Hasn't been deployed with the US army yet, but by 2018 it reasonably might.
Sidearms: Magpul FMG-9 folding submachine gun, and a combat knife made from hardened demon bones.
Grenades: M67 Fragmentation Grenades
M86 Stun Grenades
Other equipment: Standard military equipment, such as a gasmask, flashlight, and kevlar plating. Using contacts with the Foundation, the NBWDAC, the stealth suit allows light to pass through Jackson and his weapons for short periods of time. Since this also causes light to go straight through his eyes, Jackson two eye pieces that switch to infrared vision. However, the suit is made from the skin of a Kitsune, which had no special resistance to damage, nor does it hide the noises Jackson makes, or his smell while cloaked.
He also has a small satellite connected computer, allowing him to find information and keep in contact with the NBWDAC from almost anywhere, a small quadcopter, with a camera (which feeds into the laptop) and an automated "spotter", allowing him to receive range and wind data without help from another human.
Notable Skills:
Physically Fit: Being an US soldier, Clark meets all the criteria in physical strength and endurance. However, he isn't any stronger than the average soldier.
Stealth: As a sniper, Jackson has trained hard in ways to avoid being seen.
Good shot: With his rifle, Jackson can hit a man side target at center mass consistently at 1,100 yards.
Climbing: A core part of his training was learning how to climb. Height is an advantage one cannot ignore, and Jackson is capable of climbing up trees and up small ledges, although he cannot scale flat building walls or do Parkour.

Name: Jake Saylin
Gender & Age: Male, 35

Appearance: Jake stands at an average 5'10" and weighs just over 12 stone. His hair is a dark brown that falls below his ears, stopping just short of his shoulders and pretty much always looking wind-swept. He hasn't owned a comb since he was a kid. Jake hasn't shaved in the past week and so has amassed a scratchy covering of stubble. His hazel eyes are often weary and cast a haunted look to his fairly good-looking features.

Jake tends to wear casual clothes. He currently sports a pair of baggy, dark grey jeans, a navy long-sleeved top with the sleeves rolled to just under his elbows and a black suede jacket with the zip halfway up. A pair of dark red skate shoes on his feet, and a jumble of beaded bracelets on his left wrist complete the outfit.

When Jake has his arms bared, you can see that his right arm has various tattoos running from the wrist to just above the elbow. These are mainly band and video game tattoos from his youth, but the most notable are the bats [http://www.tattoobite.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/amazing-bats-tattoo-design.jpg] running up and around his forearm.

Faction: The Consortium. Specifically the worldwide print news conglomerate, EarthSheet, that specialises in fabricating stories in order to keep the Extraplanar activity a secret from the entire public.

Growing up, Jake's life was unremarkably average. He was born and raised in New York with both parents earning enough to make living comfortable. He was just a regular kid who liked to read, play videogames and listen to loud, heavy music.

As an adult, Jake found himself graduating NYU with a degree in Journalism and already a local reputation as an entertaining and truthful newswriter and commentator. As the years progressed, Jake pursued his career as a print journalist for various magazines, earning himself a national reputation as being one of the most trustworthy and talented young writers in America. Eventually, after winning a number of national and international journalistic awards, Jake was offered a writing job at one of the world's leading magazines. Without much hesitation, he accepted and soon found himself thrust into the international spotlight because of his approach to investigative journalism.

Despite the responsibilities of his work and being in the public eye, Jake never really grew up. He would still go see bands play whenever he could and he'd often spurn dinner parties with high-profile guests in favour of playing the latest video games. He became a notorious symbol of independence and irresponsibility in the face of the pompous world of print journalism. Many of his peers despised him behind their backs, joking about the "crass nature of the man-boy's articles". But Jake didn't care.

All Jake really cared about was the woman he married after knowing for two years, Melissa. They had a daughter, Amy, and were living very comfortably in New York when the 21st of December 2012 came around. It wasn't until summer of 2013 that Jake's life would be affected by the arrival of the Extraplanar beings.

During that summer, Jake found himself recruited by an entirely international news conglomerate called EarthScreen. He was paid an insane amount but the stipulations were that if he ever tried to leave the job or tell anyone of the details - including his family - he would be killed. With surprisingly little resignation at these stipulations, Jake accepted the job, which turned out to be a kind of anti-journalism.

Jake's job was to be sent to areas of Extraplanar activity that had high risks of being exposed to the public. He would investigate the area, interview supposed witnesses and then fabricate a believable story in order to keep things secret. Obviously, the revelations of Extraplanar beings were an initial shock to Jake; but not as big a shock to what he would learn about the factions in years to come.

For five years, Jake has covered up over one hundred incidents - some small, some large - but has still only encountered one Extraplanar entity alive. One night, when walking back to his apartment, Jake was terrified to be confronted by himself. Unsure of what to do, he tried to step around the doppelganger, only for it to suddenly transform into his seven year-old daughter. Numb with fear, Jake believes the thing would have killed him there if it hadn't been scared off by a nearby car alarm. After that day, Jake bought a gun and sought out an old Foundation contact to procure a powerful weapon to use against any Extraplanar threat.

Today, Jake is only the dimmest shadow of his former self; his wife and daughter have noticed the dramatic melancholy that seems to be crippling the man they love, but he still tries to hide this from them. He's been seeing a therapist in order to put their minds at ease, but without telling the truth, how can he hope to unload the heavy burdens weighing down his life?

Only once has Jake contemplated suicide. The gun's muzzle was pressed against his temple before he realised that he could never willingly leave his family. And so Jake fights on, doing what he tenuously believes is his duty to the world.

Personality: Jake is a deeply troubled man. Knowing enough about the existence of Extraplanar beings, he lives his life in perpetual terror. He has only ever encountered one such being but it confirmed to him the fears outlined by HP Lovecraft a hundred years ago; that humanity is insubstantial and its existence inconsequential in the face of such incomprehensibly superior beings. His terror stems from the knowledge that any of these creatures could attack - and kill - him with impunity, or that at any moment, Earth could cease to exist should a Type V creature decide upon it.

Many with Jake's heavy heart would likely have ended it long ago, but he continues to fight through his terror. For one thing, he has a family that he could never willingly leave for death. For another, he struggles within himself to find the best course of action for his journalistic talents.

For five years, Jake has worked as one of the foremost EarthScreen reporters, liaising with other companies in The Consortium and Foundation to alter the news in order cover up strange goings-on. However, having gone into journalism to pursue truth for the common man, Jake obviously considers himself a terrible hypocrite and liar, but struggles with the concept of revealing to the world exactly what he knows. On the one hand, he believes that humanity deserves to know the truth. On the other hand, he doesn't think humanity is ready for the truth. He considers his own terror as part of the argument and often concludes that if the truth were to be leaked before the public were ready, then the ensuing panic would be a disaster far greater than the current Extraplanar activity.

Aside from these hesitations, Jake also has misgivings about the ethics involved in some of the factions' practices. The Foundation's experiments help mankind but, morally, aren't they just torturing and operating on unconsenting living creatures? Jake can't decide either way. The process of harvesting holds a similar conundrum for him.

In terms of the other factions, and magically-geared persons, Jake holds a sort of frightened respect. Compared to them, Jake feels as he does against the Extraplanars - insignificant. However, he also likes to think of himself as one of the few representatives of the common man. He may feel like a fairly useless and always terrified representative, but he likes to think it keeps the world balanced, and that if he can survive then perhaps so can the rest of humanity. And that's a thought worth holding onto.

Despite constantly worrying himself over the fate of the world, Jake tries to be congenial to people and never goes out of his way to upset others, just in case they happen to be a vampire or shapeshifter or something. On rare occasions, the old Jake surfaces - fun-loving, passionate - but is quickly stamped down again by thoughts of humanity's irrelevance.

Extraplanar Technology: After his first, and only, terrifying encounter with an Extraplanar being, Jake decided to call in a favour owed him by a top Foundation scientist. The favour consisted of asking for a weapon capable of protecting Jake from the dangers of Extraplanar beings. With a host of warnings about it's dangers, the scientist handed over 'The Firestorm'.

'The Firestorm' is a small, grenade-like device that has a button at it's top with a sharp pin attached to the button. The only way for the user to activate the device is to draw blood on the pin whilst pressing the button. 'The Firestorm' contains the pure essence of an Ifrit and when activated, produces a raging inferno (much like this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2ovWefwC3w]) around a ten metre radius, with the user at the center. The act of drawing blood as you activate the device is a failsafe produced by The Foundation, that creates an affinity between the user and the Ifrit's fire, stopping the user from being engulfed in the flames.

Once activated, 'The Firestorm' lasts approximately 7 seconds. All attempts at measuring it's heat levels have proven unsuccessful as all materials seem to be destroyed by the fire.

'The Firestorm' is a very formidable weapon, just what Jake needs to keep himself safe. Unfortunately, he has never used it and is still unsure exactly what it does, aside from "make fire". Also, due to the fact that it uses powerful Extraplanar materials, he is deeply, deeply afraid of it and will only ever consider using it if all other options have failed.

Aside from 'The Firestorm', Jake also carries a regular 9mm hand gun. He's never fired it.

Notable Skills: Jake has a lot of contacts, expecially within The Consortium and Foundation. Many companies that he has helped in the past owe him some favours that he could call upon in times of need. This could amount to weapons, military aid, money or even just refuge.

Being a journalist who makes his living outright lying about worldly events, Jake is great at manipulating people. He's conscious of how immoral it can be, but in a world where shadow creatures can eat his face off, he's not completely bothered by lying and manipulating people to survive. As a result of this, people tend to like him, though whether they're seeing the real Jake Saylin is up for debate. It's highly unlikely though.

Other: Jake enjoys reading. In his youth, Jake read lot of HP Lovecraft's stories and, despite trying for the past five years, he just can't shake the feeling that the bloody guy was right about humanity's role in the universe.

Jake has been sent to Boston by EarthScreen in order to investigate the recent murders and fabricate a story suitable for the world's public to see.

On his person, Jake carries a notebook and pen, a dictaphone, a mobile phone, a small book containing all his important contacts (in case he loses his phone), a 9mm hand gun and 'The Firestorm' device.

At his hotel, he also has a suitcase that contains a laptop, a copy of Catch-22, toiletries and a week's worth of clothes.

A note on Jake's introduction into the RP: I think he'd be suited to getting rescued after being attacked? Or perhaps interviewing another character about the murders before being dragged into the thick of things?

To be honest, I'm not entirely bothered how he'd be introduced so if anyone else has any suggestions, they're more than welcome.

Name: Shun Min Gang
Gender & Age: Male, 23

Appearance: A clean cut, handsome man of Chinese descent, he's someone who likes to turn heads. Shun is a very clean man, well groomed with a pearly white smile and well built physique. He doesn't stand at an impressive height with a measly 5'6", a fact he's a tad sore about. He's clean shaven with black cropped hair. His usual attire is a casual suit, black with a dark red undershirt and shiny, steel toed leather shoes, with a vest underneath it all to protect his vital bits. When actually on the job, or during one of his heists, he's found wearing an anonymous looking navy blue hoodie and jeans, both inlaid with extraplanar 'materials' to increase protection and armor to levels higher than regular armor can give him.

His most constant accessory is what appears to be a cane, with 6 gold rings on it. In truth, this is a copy of Sun Wukongs weapon, the Ruyi Jingu Bang, capable of stretching out to extraordinary lengths, and shrinking to the size of a pin, even capable of changing width in the blink of an eye. Unfortunately, it is a copy and he is not Wukong, so he can't use it at it's maximum lengths. He also carries a modified pistol, for when he's fighting weaklings/humans. He owns an Audi R8, with a modified LAW 80 in the door, in case he needs to make something explode.

Faction: Independent

Biography/History: Born in Manchuria, raised in Russia for the most part, and rarely with his parents, Shun led a privileged life with his Father, an ambassador working in various Embassies. A decent kid turned to an attention starved teen, often seeking approval in rising above and beyond as much as he could. Alas, work was busy all the time. So he lashed out a tad, started picking up some... less savory talents. Never planning to use them, of course, but they were useful, no?

His father was important enough to learn of the demons a few months after the invasion. Out of fear, he moved the family to Jerusalem, for the increased protection and fewer demons. He figured the holy land would deter demons. Shun fell into a bad crowd pretty quickly, resenting his father for forcing them into yet another home. Shun doesn't remember when he first got it into his head to rob a bank, but once it got in there, it gnawed at him constantly. An adrenaline rush, a good scheme, he thought he was smart enough to not get caught and he had a team of stooges who he thought could follow orders.

He enacted his plan in 2016, having gotten weapons and such from wherever he could find em. A few pistols, a stick his father gifted to him when he moved out, and an old hunting rifle his friend had. High caliber. And to Shun's credit, all had gone well at first, he had managed to scare the clerk, put on a big show of the whole thing, and then a woman in white stood up.

Shit hit the fan quick after that. She moved through Shun's two buddies quick- shrugging off bullets with a screeching laughter that stays in his mind to this day, even the one that hit her in the neck. One of his pals got his head ripped off, the other seemed to have a seizure after she stared him in the eyes. A clerk raised the alarm, police got there quick but not quick enough. Shun shit himself that day, tried to run, tried to shoot the fucking demon. She grabbed him in an alley, smashed his pistol, nearly broke Shun's hand with barely a thought. Shun did all he could think of, trying to whack her with his dad's stick.

To his surprise, she caught it mid swing, smiling a knowing smile, Shun could feel her in his brain. What surprised both of them is when she suddenly backed off, clutching at a hand clearly stung by something. Not hurt, though, Shun noted that distinction pretty quickly when she lunged at him again. He tried to swat at her again, but she stayed a step ahead, even when the stick grew in Shun's hands. She bolted out the door then, as the police had finally arrived in the chaos. Shun escaped, through the carnage the demon made as it tore through their barricade.

Ever since, Shun has relocated several times, learning what he could about that demon, slowly finding out that she wasn't alone. Every little fairy tale, every legend and story he'd read were true. And they were not friendly. At least, most weren't. He put what skills he had to good use, hunting the demons with a small group from his homeland. Secretly, he did retry the bank robberies, getting it better a second time with otherworldly materials. Never did find that demon, but he doesn't very much want to now that he knows not to fuck with Type 3's. Type 1's and 2's, though, those are some much fairer prey. Sure, Shun doesn't like the secrecy of his trade, but a high sum to find some chump ass demon in Boston what else are you gonna do? Fly to America, the land of opportunity, and try to see how much money you can make, that's what you goddamn do.

Personality: Shun is a rogue to the core, though he does like to pretend he's a noble one. A modern day Robin Hood, in his own head. He has a strict rule of non violence against fellow mortals, and a life time of pent up rage and frustration for the demons he finds himself battling lately. Not that he's particularly nice; he likes to think he's charming in his off time but on duty, he's borderline sociopathic, and has a love for the dramatic and collateral damage. His ego needs some work, and he tends to cut corners, but he's reliable enough. At least he thinks so.

Extraplanar Tech: A copy of the legendary weapon Ruyi Jingu Bang is his main weapon, and he is never seen without it, but he has been known to use more... modern weapons when fighting. Modified with Extraplanar materials for extra durability and stopping power. His car has a LAW 80 in the trunk, and he has a Jericho 941 on his person most the time, with a clip of explosive and regular ammo.

Notable Skills: Shun is an excellent shot, and a creative, brutal brawler. He also hosts a variety of non-combat abilities, like free running, computer hacking, pick pocketing, and picking locks. The whole thieves set up, basically. He has some innate skill with small group tactics, but is fine going solo.

Ruyi Jingu Bang is the best weapon name.

Well I am up for this good sir. This idea looks good as grand.
I shall put up my sheet up here and I welcome all kinds of feedback! :D

Code:
[b]Name:[/b] Gabriel Kooper.
Code:
[b]Call sign:[/b] Barakiel.
Age: 24

Gender: Male.

Nationality: British/Japanese.

Appearance:

Gabriel is a pale skinned man, whose body has a light and fast builds for dangerous situations. His height is smaller than the average man and weights less due to less muscle.
His head is covered by white hair with white eyebrows. The eyes of Gabriel are piercing but have a low golden colour to them, which is weird, even with the Albinism defect.

Wearing a formal level jacket with angel wing patches sown in the back, underneath Gabriel wears a white short sleeved shirt (usually buttoned up like the jacket.). Below the belt or at least the belt itself, is an ordinary belt with a buckle with a golden cross on it, below it are formal dress pants and below that are formal black shoes with black socks.

On his lazy days, Gabriel only cares to wear his Priest outfit.
And he always wears his first cross.

Faction: Independent

Biography/History: At an early age Kooper's parents were killed, not by monsters, not by any crusaders, but by police men. Corrupt Policemen, the father found out about their corruption as they dealt with criminals beside the former family home. Threatening to take this to the whole Police department of London, the home was set on fire, a fire which killed both of his parents. Luckily Gabriel was only young and even with his grandparents who told them about the corrupt cops later in life.

His Grandfather was a hunter who lived far from the city. This trained Gabriel in the art of firearms, of course being at a younger age, he was only handed a pistol, something he was very fond of. This turned him into a marksman later in life. At an older age, Gabriel was forced to go to Japan to spent time with his father's parents, it was an ordinary life, and the 17 year old Gabriel didn't care about school much, until he found his master, the person who kicked his ass with a stick, an ordinary stick over a soda can.

Remembering the adrenaline he had with firing a gun, Gabriel immediately came attached to the kendo stick and sword fighting. Fast-forward many years, Gabriel graduated from his school and dojo with the highest marks. Giving his regards to his father's parents, he travelled back to the UK where he trained more with a gun. Not only that, his Father's best friend took him in and trained him into a Priest, not any priest, a Priest that battled the shadows and evil. Gabriel didn't understand this until later into his training.

Coming to his later years of 23, Gabriel now owned his own pair of metal swords, blessed by his Guardian Michael, his father's best friend. Two revolver pistols came from his now elderly grandparents. With these weapons, Gabriel blessed them with Latin names and was determined to help the holy world against evil. Yet first...

A photo that he carried all the time.
A photo of two cops in an alley.
The photo that his father had taken to show the world justice yet had gotten his close family killed.

So many years later, the two policemen had done so many more good things, yet in the back of his mind Gabriel would not accept it. Going to one of their retired homes he actually managed to find the two cops, just enjoying life, both single. Disguised as a Priest he wanted more information out of them, but actually, they were not human at all.

Augmentation, people who were combined with monster flesh.
These are the things that killed his parents.
Filled almost by anger, Gabriel turned to justification.
Taking out his black sword, he managed to take out a hand of one man before being thrown against the wall, almost biting the bullet due to their strength.

Yet, something answered.
One last thing he saw was a bright and blue light; he could feel his hair stand up on his skin.
The instant the light was gone; there were only piles of ash. The men had died, his revenge was complete.
Yet, nothing but only mystery and intrigue came to Gabriel, what had saved him!?

He remembered the feeling on his skin. Electricity.
Looking up on the internet, he only found one thing.

Barakiel.
The Archangel of Lightning.

Shocked, Gabriel got down on his knees and not only prayed to his Lord, but he prayed to become a Disciple of the Lightning Archangel.

To this day, he does not know if that prayer had been answered.

Boston.

Being on the run from Scotland Yard for the suppose murder of two 'policemen' was hard enough.
Fleeing the country, cutting all ties with his family, Gabriel went to the largest country he could fit in.
That was America, Boston to be exact.

Since then, he had taken shelter at a Church that understood his ways. It even was a friend of his former Priest master. The boat ride took a toll on the now 24 year old, so at the moment he just spent his time in the Christian Church, doing duties that he can do.

Personality: Gabriel is a headstrong man, he tries to deal with his problem head on, if it all falls down then he will think about running and thinking. Intelligence is something that never came to the front of his head, battle and doing good deeds did. But when it comes down to it, Gabriel can think up of plans mostly involving dark beings and fighting. When it comes to everyday or professional life, he can be generally welcoming if the people are good people.

If someone mocks his God, he tries to lecture them. In a bad mood he generally stays quiet and can become incredibly sarcastic and make a lot of bad jokes.

Divinity.
Purification: While trained as a Priest, Gabriel learned all manner of Holy Spells and incantations. Being a person that favours combat over anything else, Purification was the first thing he was taught by his teacher. Managing to succeed multiple times in both non-combat and combat situations, it was certain that this was his spell. At the point where he 'killed' the two Augmented Policemen, he questioned wherever that was his power or a higher power.

Still, he wishes to learn more skills connected to his favourite element, lightning.
With Blessing, Gabriel managed to complete these spells at a younger age when he first joined, but later on he forgot how to do this spell and asks others to bless his weapons for him.

And for Praying, while being a Priest and able to pray casually, nothing has ever happened when he tries to pray in a dire situation.

Notable Skills:
Swordsman (Speciality: Dual-wielded combat).
Marksmanship (Speciality: Dual-wielded combat).
Weapon management.
Priest duties (Includes speaking Latin).
Praying.
Keeping Calm.
Bike Riding. (As in the mechanical kind)
Desperate plan creation.

Weapons:

Other:

Satchel:
- Metal Bible.
- Holy Water X2 (Drinkable).
- Blessed Bullets.
- Paperwork and licenses.

So yeah, don't worry if you have a problem.
Just give me a PM and I shall respond quick as possible.
(Unless I am sleeping due to Australian time.)

I'm thinking of joining but i had a couple of questions. First, can a character have had a parent that was a member of the Cabal if they themselves aren't? Second, can augmented cabal members still have children?

I only ask cause i had an idea for a character that has what's basically an auto-immune disease or something like that due to genes from their augmented parentage, i.e. the extra-planar cells and the human cells are at war and killing her from the inside unless she takes a specific medicine to stop it for a few days. Would that be ok?

To the first two questions, the answer is yes. You can have cabal parents but never become part of the cabal if you don't like. I doubt the Cabal will like that you rejected them, but you could do it. Augmented can certainly have kids so long as they leave the, ahm, "necessary equipment" un-augmented.

The major concern is that demons haven't been back on earth for very long (only for 5 to 6 years). You'll need to be creative with how that works, but otherwise I've no trouble wit it. Getting the drugs will be somewhat difficult - consider being part of the Foundation, Consortium, or one of the government bodies (a wealthy independent can also work) as a way to fund the drug needs.

Otherwise, have at it.

I didn't consider how long the Extraplanar had been around so thanks for that, but if i can't get the mystical part of the disease to work, i'll just make it a regular auto-immune disease instead. At least i'm planning on being in U.N.I.T.E.D. so the drug acquisition shouldn't be to hard.

Also, is Skype going to be a requirement for this rp? I only ask since i haven't had luck in acquiring it for any device that i have currently.

-

I don't feel as if this sheet is finished, but all the necessary parts have been filled out.

Sounds amazing and seems like you've put loads of work into it. Just got two questions:

How many players are you looking for?

When will you be closing applications?

Hopefully I'll have time to get a really good sheet together.
