I'm curious about this one. Smells and looks a whole lot like Dishonored, which isn't bad, because I can always use more Dishonored.

If it quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck. However, I'm going to have to wait for an actual in-game teaser, before I know what this thing sounds like.

While keeping Stephen Russel would've been better, meaning, it will give them a higher chance of success at "getting it right", as long as they actually do get it right, it won't be such a big deal.

As for the action portrayed here, namely, evading instead of fighting, that is an intriguing option, and I find I'm not so viscerally opposed to it. But as an add-on; I still want a totally stealthy experience, without the need to "evade" or kill anyone, unless I choose to.

Notice, I said "anyone", not "anything". In T1, I did my fair bit of undead "killing" (and while "Return to the Cathedral" was a superb example of an undead level done right, it was the only undead level done right). Ditto for the friendly robots in T2 (which I found superior to the undead because you could get rid of them in a stealthier fashion).

Not too fussed about changing the voice actor, so long as they get the character right. This new guy doesn't sound nearly as jaded/cynical as he should though. Russel's voice seemed to capture the anti-hero spirit of Garrett, they really need a replacement who's able to do the same; this guy isn't it.

I've been playing Thief Gold lately - never played the games before and although it's difficult to get over how dated everything is, I'm really enjoying it. Unfortunately, the levels tend to be quite hit and miss. Half of them are a barrel of laughs that have you breaking into mansions, stealing everything that isn't nailed down and smacking dumb guards over the head with your blackjack. The other half are dull labyrinths filled with nothing but zombies, spiders and ghosts with only a handful of pieces of loot.

I am really enjoying the story though and hope to move on to Thief's 2 & 3. Here's hoping this new one will be good.

I don't know about Thief 2 (still playing through Thief Gold), but 3 while having smaller levels, I felt were better designed however. It doesn't have many levels with just zombies, although some levels will have a mix of people and creatures.

I had never heard if the Thief series until after they had largely run their course, and with the long interim between the previous and upcoming titles had assumed it over and done.

Since this trailer looked quite nice, I'm pleased to be in a position of not having any prior attachment to the characterization of Garrett.

I actually liked the voice in the trailer, which is somewhat uncommon for me to say.

I skipped Dishonored because the art style alone turns me off. I've seen a few LP vids of it, and the gameplay looks solid if not ridiculously easy given your multitude of magic powers like slow time, teleport, rats etc.

I know, its much harder to stealth/no kill it.

I'm hoping that Thief will deliver on the gameplay, and judging from the trailer its already has a pleasing art direction.

It would be nice if it weren't super serious, brooding, and motivated by vengeance for a change. Revenge has been done, so many times. Its trite.

I'm not saying it should be a more grown up Sly Cooper, but yeah I'm hoping its got some of that charm I've heard tell of in the earlier series.

The little cynic in me wonders how many people actually knew who voiced Garrett before they realized the actor had changed. It's been a while since I've last replayed the Thief games, but the soft gravely voiced Garrett here doesn't seem all that different from before...

The new teaser seems reminiscent of the trailer and intro for Deadly Shadows with the focus on the tools and the 'job' (the absence of silly quotes, neck shooting and demons is a plus though). This is pretty much what I wanted to see from the game at this point.

Now the circle is complete. No Michael Ironside for Sam Fisher, no David Hayter for Snake, no Stephen Russell for Garrett. It's like every major stealth franchise has done this.

To be fair though, Garret's new voice actor isn't half bad, unlike the little dick that voices Sam now. at least they didn't give the role of a 50-year-old character to a 20-year-old actor.

And the trailer looks gorgeous. I though it was quite sneaky and stealthy and the one bit of action in it was just an evasive maneuver, I'm guessing one of the options you have when you get caught. It reminded me of the old thief games quite a lot, I'm loving it so far.

And Glynnis Talken Campbell voiced Kerrigan before she was replaced with Tricia Helfer in SC2.
Is now every voice actor change worthy of a drama?
I seriously didn't know the voice of Garrett was a ?thing?. - Sorry Russell I could not care less.

People apparently get hooked so much on the 3 seconds of action yet avoiding the guard and observing the loot does bypass them. ?Without sneaking?? - Well there it was duh...

Everything about this game looks good to me thus far.
Sam Fisher without Michael Ironside.
Solid Snake without David Hayter.

And now Garrett without Stephen Russell.

Yes. It is worthy of the drama simply to make developers stop doing this shit.

Of course his voice is a 'thing'! You almost never see his face in the first three games, and the only attachment to him comes from his sarcastic and witty comments about various situations. The voice is the only thing that defines him.

And now it's gone.

Devil May Cry, Diablo, Splinter Cell, Duke Nukem, Warcraft, Call Of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect and now Thief. Which series will developers ruin next? Tune in next week to find out!

I never thought of Garret's voice as something iconic. But I understand people who feel differently and for them I'd want it to be the same voice actor because I know how much it sucks when they replace it.

I can't wait for actual gameplay footage.

Looks like Garret is still sporting his mechanical eye. So that's a plus.

Dodging a sword? For shame. The point of Thief was to never be in that situation to begin with! Though it's a CGI trailer, so I'll give it a pass.

The more important question is: Where is Benny!?

I hope it's just a ruse. Get everyone riles up about no Russel and then reveal him at a later stage and everyone will rejoice.

Please let that be true, please.

The trailer itself is pretty much what I would expect from something trying to get people who never heard about Thief "hooked" on the game. Guess it's wait for the good ol' actual gameplay for me.

I don't think the new VA is bad, he' doing a good job. But it feels like something is out of place. Like Daniel Craig might be a good actor, but I don't want him playing Indiana Jones.

Are you implying that he can't make witty comments or be sarcastic with another voice?
If the new guy is doing a good job then there is little to complain.

Because having a different voice actor makes a decent game automatically bad...

God. Damn. It.
Of all the shit decisions, this is what they do? The smooth voice of Garrett that caused instant gender spanning love is not gone.

Kerrigan doesn't have a distinct voice, she just has a distinct look and she's shaking her tight, carapace-plated arse all over the cinematics. We identify her by her image, not her voice.

But you play Thief through Garrett's eyes. 99% of the game is from his POV and Russell's gravelly, confident whisper was with us at every step as we explored sprawling mansions and twisted streets. That distinct voice WAS Garrett, because we never saw enough of him to identify him by sight (which is what a good thief does).

This new guy has some big shoes to fill, because thieving can be a lot of work. Having a dull monotonous voice like the one in the trailer droning in our ears is a recipe for boring. And boring just isn't profitable.
