We all do it, we are reading a book or watching a film, and no matter what the premise, there are always moments where you think "Thats imposssible!" or "Why the hell would that happen?". You dont say anything, because hey, its a film about magical pigeons fighting stan riding cthulu and nobody would care. But what are those moments for you? Even if your just reading to much into the material, go ahead and share!

One thing I noticed is that they celebrate christmas in Harry Potter.... why? Wizards dont seem to have any concept of religion, so why would they celebrate a religious festival? Do wizards in Muslim countries celebrate Ramadan?

I'm not a Christian and I celebrate Christmas. Why wouldn't wizards?

Because Wizards don't even know what Electricity is. They're so disconnected from the non-wizarding world, it seems unlikely that they would follow our customs.

UNLESS: Jesus was a famous wizard (which they'd probably mention) and that's why they both do Christmas.

The way that in zombie films, someone always thinks that their victim is different. They've seen the entire population go all zombie like with no survivors but as soon as someone close to them is bitten, suddenly 'there might be a way!'. It irritates me.

Also, sci-fi dogfights and explosions in space. Anger.

As I said, wizards have no concept of religion or what it is, they understand very little about the muggle world

But then, at the end of the film, Ryuichi (the Chinese gangster in the car) and Jojima (the cop who attacks them) face off, and then....this happens.

What the hell is wrong with Japanese people!!

The way I see it, since Christmas has been around longer than Electricity (and wizard being sterotypically old), they haven't kept up with the modern world.

They had to have been part of society at some point, or at the very least know about it. Traditions and whatnot. Plus, it's probably a spiritual thing anyway.

Also, why would Wizards need Electricty when they have magic?

Oh, they don't need it at all. But my point was that the British expert on Muggles had no real concept of it, let alone anyone else. But there is a lot of mingling between Muggle-born wizards and regular wizards. It doesn't seem that outlandish for there to be some custom swapping, now that I think about it. And now that you mention it, it does make sense that both societies were closer back 2000 years ago.

Continuing the Harry Potter theme, aside from the fact Magic in books does my head in because it never sticks to its own rules, the entire Wizarding community would have the maths skills of an 11 year old.

What bothers me is that if someone goes over a cliff into water, people always assume that they're dead.
Then said presumed dead always comes back.
Unless you're the smoke monster in the LAME ending of Lost.

Well, those from non-magic families do so they will have at least a very basic foundation in maths etc. I guess everyone is just home-schooled before 11.

If we're going to rag on Harry Potter, then why haven't wizards discovered democracy? Or... guns? Because, you know, in the third book, when Sirius has a gun, he manages to frighten the entire wizarding community. And the Minister of Magic is chosen ... but not by the British Prime Minister? So... who chooses him? What about electing people?

One thing that I've always wondered about, is in Doctor who, when Rose alters the timeline, freaky bat creatures start appearing and eating everyone, but when the Doctor does it everythings just peachy.

Why is it that Muggles should live in fear of Wizzards? They have wands and flying Broomsticks? We have the goddamn Atom bomb and Machine Guns, and we dont need to speak in order to fire one.

Granted stand offs would look cool but be one sides.

At the risk of sounding very blasphemous, Jesus was probably a wizard. Transmuting, walking on water, making food appear, bringing back the dead, defeating death. Yeah I can see why wizards and witches would celebrate Christmas.

The part where the good guys usually always win.
If you stretch the definition of good and evil they only win about half the time. But there is a rule in the comic book business that the superhero has to triumph in the end.

Seriously though, like the Doctor said: her dad's death was a fixed point in time that had to happen. The things the Doctor change don't have to happen.
