What bothers me more are three things about space dog fights:Sephychu said:Also, sci-fi dogfights and explosions in space. Anger.
Another surprising thing is that the tombs or temples always seem to be falling apart since they're a million years old but the mechanical booby traps and doors work just fine.Stilt-Man said:What bugs me about fiction is when they add technological devices in older settings. "Van Helsing" is the example that immediately comes to mind. Also, any movie/book/game where the characters are exploring an ancient tomb or temple, and there are insanely high-tech traps and lifts and moving walls and such w/o alien/magical explanations.
Yes, it's all fiction, but it bugs me to no end.
That is what they got the Goblins for, they do all their math, that is why they are the bankers.Plinglebob said:Continuing the Harry Potter theme, aside from the fact Magic in books does my head in because it never sticks to its own rules, the entire Wizarding community would have the maths skills of an 11 year old.
And it's not like new discoveries anachronised these things, they were plain as day when the films were made. Star Wars gets off the hook for being awesome.Zero-Vash said:What bothers me more are three things about space dog fights:Sephychu said:Also, sci-fi dogfights and explosions in space. Anger.
1. Lasers are slow moving, dodge able projectiles
2. That there is noise
3. When a ship is "shot down" it actually falls instead of floating around
(Star Wars is the biggest perp here but there are others as well)
I've also noticed people who aren't Christians celebrate Christmas insofar as they put up a tree in their living room, decorate their house and buy their friends and family cards and presents. By the same token, why wouldn't the wizards?johnman said:One thing I noticed is that they celebrate christmas in Harry Potter.... why? Wizards dont seem to have any concept of religion, so why would they celebrate a religious festival? Do wizards in Muslim countries celebrate Ramadan?
What the ACTUAL FUCK. Mood breaking though that may be, it's utterly amazing.Furburt said:The ending of Dead or Alive.
It just...makes no sense, whatsoever. Even considering how totally insane Takeshi Miike is, it's still weird.
Warning: Don't watch this if you plan to see the film, it's a massive spoiler. I think.
Anyway, bear with me on this, the film, up to this point, has been a serious if very stylized gangster flick, with a believable plot, and no especially mental moments. The moments that are mental (the crime boss drowning the woman in her own diarrhea) are at least plausible.
But then, at the end of the film, Ryuichi (the Chinese gangster in the car) and Jojima (the cop who attacks them) face off, and then....this happens.
[madness]
Indeed it does. I do not walk away from the original three thinking they were bad and unrealisticSephychu said:And it's not like new discoveries anachronised these things, they were plain as day when the films were made. You never read the Half-Blood Prince have you? They can cast spells without speaking they just need to think it.Pandalisk said:Why is it that Muggles should live in fear of Wizzards? They have wands and flying Broomsticks? We have the goddamn Atom bomb and Machine Guns, and we dont need to speak in order to fire one.

Granted stand offs would look cool but be one sides.
Man, if that was in it, JK Rowling would be crucified.Angerwing said:UNLESS: Jesus was a famous wizard (which they'd probably mention) and that's why they both do Christmas.Kermi said:I'm not a Christian and I celebrate Christmas. Why wouldn't wizards?
