NEVER try to defeat the killer.
Dont try to defeat the killer? Jason I understand, but sometimes its just some guy who has a weapon and walks slow. Sometimes its just like, just kill them yourselves. The Strangers I tihnk it was, was just crazy people. Human and killable.

Honestly, I would just run like hell, and going right at the villain trying to kill them isn't exactly the best way to get away from them. Killable or not.
Im not saying go after them, but sometimes when cornered or something, you should. Go down fighting I say. Saying never implies to just be a victim.

Isn't it usually the escapists that get fucked up in the end anyway? They run, they trip, and the bad guy teleports behind them after walking for the past 3 miles and puts his big sword/axe/boot/etc into their stupid head.

Maybe those guys should lift their feet when running. :p

But seriously, horror movies are screwed up like that. The best way to truly avoid dying in a horror movie/game is to not appear in it as a character.

If you're cornered, yeah, you're right, but I meant that if you had a chance to get away, then take advantage of it.

Although you can't really do anything about it, normally the attractive woman lives through the movies, and maybe the handsome man that loves her (though that's about 50/50 really). But here's something that you can do: When dealing with a killer that uses traps, have everyone else do things while you lie on the ground in an area that won't get you killed. I've seen more then one movie where someone set off the trap, and it activated somewhere else and killed another person.

Also, if the guy seems nice, he's likely the killer.

The stupidest thing is usually splitting up. "So, we're in this really threatening situation in an unfamiliar environment with no idea what's going on. Let's go off in opposite directions and see what happens."

Always stay in a well-lit area, without any places that someone could hide behind. And always remember, if you get the chance, keep shooting/stabbing/bludgeoning the killer until you see brains. Then, attack a little more, just to be sure.

Don't you know, you never split the party?

Never say "Is it gone?" Because it won't be. And then it will kill you.
Or "I think we're safe."
Or "Did we kill it?"
Or "It's all over now."

Got a good collection of these when a friend and I shared a digital torso for Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. We talked about making it a drinking game, but we agreed that the end result would probably be alcohol poisoning.

If really weird shit is going on and you call the cops, don't tell them that weird shit is going on. They'll just think you're a prank caller. Instead, just say that there are a couple of guys with guns running about. The cops can figure it out when they get there.

Never act arrogant. EVER. Even if you've bludgeoned the bad guy until his brains are showing, DO NOT say a word to the body.

Example: You're not so tough now, are you?

If you notice liquid dripping on your weapon, DO NOT LOOK SLOWLY UP. Instead, jump away from that spot and start shooting at the source of the liquid.

Don't laugh. As soon as someone laughs, WHAM! they get a claw/knife/hammer/etc. through the face. Even if the situation seems under control, dont give that nervous laugh of relief.

Um, can I just point out reading the "Zombie Survival Handbook" by Max Brooks. Thanks to that book, I am now fully prepared in the case of a Zombie outbreak. Also, there's another book out there about how to know a survive being in a horror movie...don't know why they're both in the "Comedy" section of the bookstores though.:)

OT: If you know that all your friends were killed by some psycho in this area, and you have the choice between leaving or going back to save a friend, I would recommend leaving. I know, that's not the loyal thing to do but, besides the exceptions of my wife, daughter, or other REALLY close family member...that's probably what I'd do. And then comeback with some serious firepower to seek revenge and save the survivors. In my defense, I would want them to do the same thing if it was the other way around...except don't come back for me. I wouldn't want to know they died trying to save my butt.

"Lets split up"
"When this is over ...."
"Guys, I think its safe"
"It's too quiet"
"Is it over?"
"Lets go check it out"
"That was a close one"
"I'll draw them off"

Say those things and you are doomed. (As for the last, one of the things you are drawing off will notice the others and turn its head really slowly in that creepy way and thus proceed to kill them, so don't do that especially.)

As for actions .. don't do anything related to the above statements.
