Windows 8.1 user here. My problem is the same as with every Windows OS since XP - compatibility mode. It doesn't work, has never worked and will never work. I like to play a lot of old games and my only option is a virtual PC. Which isn't all that bad, but it'd be nice if Microsoft finally acknowledged that compatibility mode is bullshit and got rid of it for good so I don't have to keep messing around with the compatibility settings in the vain, pathetic hope that it will actually work for once.

The fact that I'm being forcibly upgraded to Windows 10 by it being a free update to my perfectly servicable Windows 7 install.

Seriously...thats really going to suck. Especially since its the only way to get in on DX12 cause they're doing the usual lack of backwards compatibility with previous OS versions that they did with DX11.
DX10 and DX11 both work on anything Vista and above,

I use Windows 7 because my PC isn't a tablet. It's sexy and beautiful. I can do whatever I want with it and nothing is incompatible. What, negatives? Umm, it doesn't give me handjobs, does that count?

My laptop has windows 8 though. If I didn't need it for Uni I'd smash the fucking thing.
Wanna use the search bar? Move the mouse to the top left, move it out SLIGHTLY and down a bit, but not out too much or stupid menu will disappear.
Want a "Computer" shortcut? Why would you want that you nerd, when you can use our WONDERFUL ANAL FISTINGLY GOOD SIDEBAR FUCK YOU MICROSOFT YOU PACK OF FETUS EATING, COCKMONGL-
Or you can always use Metro, y'know, that thing that nobody fucking asked for, that replaced an easier, smoother, faster, and more reliable Windows 7 interface.

I'm curious about Windows 10 since they only don't fuck up every second time, but they've skipped 9 so maybe we're all fucked.
There are a couple of different ways to bet the traditional Start button, menu and search bar back. Start8 [http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/] being one of them. It basically turns everything back to the Windows 7 way of doing things.

Thankyou! Bookmarked it. Less violent gestures at Uni now for sure.

I use win 8.1 and after installing Startisback and disabling charms bar I have next to no annoyances left other than needing to sign in with a password. What pleases though... hmm.. well the booting speed is pretty damn fast, way faster than Win 7.

I use a Mac. There's nothing that really annoys me about it about the system itself.

However, I'm very annoyed whenever I tell people that I have a certain problem and they'll only respond by saying that all Mac can't do anything?ever.

Windows 8.1 user here.

I like that it works, it keeps out the way and generally does what I want it to do.
I dislike that it makes a lot of old software incompatible, the persistence in making me create a Microsoft account and the FUCKING pop-up menu.

So why is it forcing you? Just set it to not install updates like I did.

OT: Windows 7 pro 64 bit, boots up slow but runs everything fast.

Using Windows 7 at home and Gentoo Linux at work (yes yes I know).
Windows:
It runs pretty much all of my stuff without too much hassle, has a huge supply of 3rd party software which is good.
What I really miss though is some kind of package manager and also tabs in the explorer. Also I hate Windows with a passion if something goes wrong. Had problems with my wireless router. Linux connected just fine, Windows just showed "error connecting to network". Well thanks Windows thats gonna help me find the problem! Also "Do you want to disable Aero to reduce ressource usage" or whatever it says while gaming. I'm pretty sure my rig can handle displaying Aero stuff that isn't even on screen while playing in fullscreen so stop asking me! Especially since the "Don't ask again" button just means "until restart". Also the annoying tendency to just nuke the currently present bootloader when installing Windows. What? Windows XP and Linux are already present with GRUB installed as main bootloader? No no we don't any of that! *Proceeds to nuke GRUB and also "forgets" to add Windows XP to it's new bootloader*. Oh and the fact that you can't easily move the "Documents and Settings" folder. I hate that I can't just use my dedicate storage drive for storing save games etc.

As for Gentoo Linux:
I love the package manager, I really like KDE as desktop, also being able to use a proper shell is great for doing bioinformatics stuff.
On the down side: The printer at work suddenly stopped working with my machine and I still don't know why. Also since Gentoo is a source based distro where everything is compiled installing stuff like LibreOffice takes AGES. From time to time there are also updates that make it necessary to manually fix stuff which can be pretty annoying. Guess this is one of the problems typical to a rolling distro.
