Emulation of old games they no longer make. How are you supposed to give them money?

Drugs regulations, weapon regulations, prostitution, public nudity, public intoxication, speeding, reckless driving, lying under oath..

Piracy, under age anything (thats what parents are for), inhumane research restrictions, cannibalism.

Making it illegal to play catch on the beach, the death penalty, spitting in public, having sex in public, fighting for money, assaulting douchebags.

Owning a television without a license. Fuck you, BBC.

Oh and prostitution. And drugs. Fighting too, when both sides consent (Duelling even!).

Almost anything which doesn't harm or intrude on the freedom of others.

Recreational drug use in your own home, for example.

Stealing for survival, prostitution (it never made sense to me why porn stars could be paid for having sex but prostitutes cannot), weed, downloading music.

Plotting to rule the world, which I am certainly not doing and definitely do not have a room dedicated to it.

Discrimination laws.

If I own a company and if want all my employees to be male, blond and with blue eyes I should be able to do so. In the end I will only lose valuble experience.

"?It is mandatory for a motorist with criminal intentions to stop at the city limits and telephone the chief of police as he is entering the town." (WHAT... THE... HELL...)
Please tell me what they were thinking when they invented this one.

Probably "hurr hurr, we can make any law we want, just watch!"

This, I'm the one paying for the job to be done, I should be able to choose whoever the hell I feel like for whatever reason I want.

What are some laws that you personally disagree with. I personally don't get lawsuits. I believe that if you've really done something wrong, then you should be brought upon criminal charges. .
You want someone thown in jail and given a criminal record because they didn't pay you back a $100 loan? Or to risk jail because you didn't pay your rent one month according to your landlord?
That's an example of a private matter not even requiring government intervention. Besides, isn't that where that would end up anyway? There's nothing making them pay you.

This, and going 1 mile over the speed limit.

*EDIT* Oh yeah, and sharing music, which is technically illegal I believe.

I also think pot should be legal; not because I smoke it, but because there are other worse drugs and drug dealers that we should focus our attention on thwarting.
When it comes to law suits I will say that I think your missing the point. Criminal charges, even if you succeed do very little to repair the damages to the victim. If your say badly injured as a result of someone's negligence, the guy going to jail winds up doing you no good.

In the context of other law suits, like where someone sues a company for millions, understand that with bureaucracy being what it is, the company is pretty much just going to kick some poor sacrificial lamb to the curb who might not have anything to do with what happened to you, and continue business as usual. One of the problems with bureaucracies and corperations is that pinning anyone down to be responsible for anything is difficult, and you can't arrest hundreds or thousands of people.

At any rate, when it comes to law suits part of the purpose is to punish, this is what punitive damages are all about. The bigger the defendant, the more money it takes for it to be an effective punishmemnt. If you are up against say Mcdonalds or Sony, a "fair" settlement simply for damages doesn't discourage them from their practices. That's just petty cash for them. Heck, as it is one of the big things about the corperate mentality is that they will only do the right thing if it costs them less money than dealing with the damages they cause would. If it costs 48 million to recall a product, but only 24 million to deal with wrongful death claims, they'll let people die on their product. In a practical sense, when someone sues company for say 200 million dollars over something seemingly petty, the entire point is that 200 million is a blow they can't ignore.

It's also noteworthy that one of the other reasons for law suits is that the standards in a civil case, are lower than in a criminal case. In a criminal case you have to prove someone guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. In a civil case it goes to a preponderance of evidence, a lot of people don't get this.

In many cases winning a case beyond a reasonable doubt is not possible against someone who wronged you, even if they should go to jail. However a lower standard of proof in a civil case means that you can bring civil charges and have a chance of winning under those rules and obtaining satisfaction that way.

In a number of cases the case will be heard both criminally and civilly. A criminal case to have someone charged and sent to jail, and a civil case to collect damages, recoup losses, or otherwise take further punitive damage. Some CEO that gets charged and does six months in a country club is going to be laughing when he goes back to his fortune after whatever he did. On the other hand if you send him to jail, and then bankrupt his company well... that's more adequete punishment.

As far as things that are illegal that I don't mind, truthfully I support the laws against most of the things mentioned here.

I guess if I had to pick something, I'd have to say self defense. Right now defending yourself in any meaningful fashion is illegal in most places. There are laws in a lot of states specifying that both people in a confrontation are under an obligation to flee, that means that if there is say a bar fight, both guys are liable to be charged. You can't even stand your own ground in your own home, and defend your property or possessions. Some dude can walk in, grab your valuables, and walk out, and you either let the police handle it, or your criminally liable.

I'm one of those guys who believes "an armed society is a polite society". Left up to me I'd greatly loosen self defense laws, remove things like firearms permits, and have everyone walking around with a big iron on their hip. To be honest, I think it would resolve a lot of problems before hey even occured. Even if your a really fast draw, and a good shot, your going to be careful about slotting too many people off because if you push too far and have an off day, your in the ground. As a result everyone is going to be more motivated to be fair and courteous.

Piracy*, marijuana (I don't do any drugs, excluding some tyenol and buckleys), prostitution(I think the government should have some "Safe" areas for prostitution, have condom dealers, and police near by in case they are abusive.)

*Downloaded game =/= lost sale, word of mouth, them buying the game after, no rental services, e.t.c. Don't get me started on it.
This post was damn near what I was going to say.
