What trends and mechanics have you noticed making appearances in games frequently?
First, lets get this out of the way: Regenerating Health,Sandbox, FPS genre in in general, etc.
A Big character and a little character ( Ex. Bioshock Infinite, The last Guardian, That Majin Game, The Maw.)
Ok, it hasn't appeared that frequently, but I have noticed that alot of games star a kid or alien teaming up with a monster.
Mario in general
Seriously, hasn't anyone seen the influx in Mario Games? usually they make about 3 or 4 per generation, but Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Super paper Mario, New Super Mario Bros, NSMB Wii, Mario Hoops 3 on 3, the Mario Part series. They are still good quality, but it does feel like they are milking it.
RPG Elements
The RPG genre has basically split into different markets, thanks to the amount of games with rpg elements. Since we all love rpgs, this isn't really a bad thing, but most games tend to just tack it on.
So what about you guys?
