Yeah, I threw out (well, recycled; they are basically cardboard) a bunch of them that had been in my closet for probably 10 years or so last month. Of course, they have been unpopular for so long that I'm surprised anyone remembered them. And then bam, two people mentioned them here.godfist88 said:Pogs, anyone remember those?
Someone needs to explain to Disney that their movies will suck whether or not they try to imitate a company that they own.PlasmaFrog said:Agreed.Anarchemitis said:![]()

1989 to 1996 was a great time to be young. Too bad traditional animation has fallen out of style.
Everything must be rendered using software in order for it to be decent apparently.
Still, it's a bit of a crappy generation to grow up with gaming. xbox and ps3 is mainly shooters and the wii is filled with gimmicky technology and many games are really similar to previous games while we got games that were truly revolutionaryVault101 said:I usually avoid "realistic" shooters and I can always find somthing to play, sure There are dry spots now and again but its not that badThe Rockerfly said:Skating boarding games, music games and platformer games
It's a real shame, I grew up with those series and I think it's a really lame era to grow up with, at least in gaming. I mean the majority of games are fps this generation and most are gritty grey shooters and I think it's really sad

Way to just completely ignore the fact of GROWING UP *clap* *clap*. Would you really let your kids lay dragon age? How about Bioshock? Deadspace? Not many parents would and I wouldn't, how many good games on the xbox are for kids? I mean good games too and not ones that are rated 15 but you would let them play it anyway. There aren't that many while the ps2 and ps1 had bucket loads and it's a damn shameVault101 said:*cough*Nostalga goggles*cough*
But seriously I think this is an awsome gaming generation, this is the first generation where I actually had the means to play all the current games, the graphics are great and there are alot of games with awsome storys
Mass effect series
Fallout
Assins ceed series
Bioshock...BIOSHOCK!
Dragon age
Batman
left 4 dead
dead space
and many many more, not saying that last generation wasnt good, the ps2 had some amazing games but this generation is certainly nothing to sneer at
I mean if you think ALL current games are Brown FPS then your not looking hard enough (or at all)
Oh rightThe Rockerfly said:Way to just completely ignore the fact of GROWING UP *clap* *clap*. Would you really let your kids lay dragon age? How about Bioshock? Deadspace? well if your point was "this generation isnt very kid freindly" then you didnt make it very clear, so yeah sorry I misunderstood you
I think I made it perfectly clear but lets leave it hereThe Rockerfly said:Still, it's a bit of a crappy generation to grow up with gaming. xbox and ps3 is mainly shooters and the wii is filled with gimmicky technology and many games are really similar to previous games while we got games that were truly revolutionary
well its really about knowing what you likeAtmos Duality said:Quality music.
I hated the popular music when I was a kid. I hated it when I was a teenager, and I could not imagine how, but it became MUCH WORSE today.
If there is anything in this world that makes me pine for the genocide of the stupids, it's the fact that 100% of all current music on the popular stations have Autotune in them and not a single fucking track is worth listening to at all.
I've found techno that I like. I've found classical that I like. Same with jazz, RB, reggae, rock, metal, blues, baroque and even opera. I'm not a fan of country/western or gospel, but those don't make me want to immediately switch the radio off.
There is not one fucking song in "pop-hip-hop+rap" today that I can stand. The beats are the only good things in these songs (because they drive the automotive mega-bass/pimp-stereo market). Autotune creates this awful, hideous "buzz" effect that sounds like there's a bumblebee farting around the "singer's" microphone, the stars are talentless, vapid cunts and every song is beginning to sound the same. (beyond the normal similarities within genre)
Sorry for the rant, but I honestly do believe that good/quality music has fallen well out of favor with the public at large. At this point, I'm unsure how it could get worse even from here.
well in my defence Its was very easy to misinterperet that as "games were much better when I was a kid" because now its all FPS shootersThe Rockerfly said:Vault101 said:Oh right

Beanie Babies, lol. I remember when people were making fortunes off of Beanie Babies.
Pogs.
I think kids were stacking cups or something for a while there too. I hope that died.
godfist88 said:Pogs, anyone remember those?
I see I've been thoroughly ninja'd on Pogs, so I'm going to go with Mage Knight and the Dragon Ball Z trading card game. I don't know what it was like in other areas, but both games just fizzled out one day at my local hobby shop, despite being hugely popular pretty much until the day people stopped playing. DBZ I can understand, since it was so complicated that nobody actually understood the rules, and because power creep was built into the system so heavily that a card from one set was generally useless in the next, but I'll never understand why Mage Knight died out so quickly. For those who have never heard of it, it was the original click based collectible miniatures game, in which the pieces were sold in randomized booster packs, and they had little click wheels on the base, that kept track of the hitpoints, and allowed for the abilities of the unit to change at different health levels. It was pretty darned cool, and I see descendants of the idea, like Marvel Heroclix, in stores to this day, but I haven't seen any of them actually played since Mage Knight fell off the radar.mjc0961 said:I'd like to say the bad pun + CSI Miami "YEAAH" meme. Bad puns are already terrible, they don't need a terrible friend. But I don't know that it's actually stopped being popular yet. This is more of me hoping I can will it into (rather, out of) existence if I focus hard enough.

Well to be fair shooters are dominating the market and it would be understandable to believe that games were better in say the ps2 era. There is reason to believe this too due to high graphic costs which gives games greater risk so they have to sell well so innovation is a lot less. Along with that look at the most popular games of call of duty and countless games trying to copy this series.Vault101 said:well in my defence Its was very easy to misinterperet that as "games were much better when I was a kid" because now its all FPS shooters
poeple are often like that when it comes to opionion
